Spot on Jasmine. Perfectly explained. I, too, was a bit sad when I learned of the revised renovations... but then I realized what these changes are really about. These changes will allow many more people who don't speak English to partake of the blessings of the Church's "flagship temple." The Church Office Building Plaza, with the flags of all the nations, now perfectly complements the expanded abilities of the Salt Lake Temple. The temples are going to get really, really busy. I believe our pioneer ancestors (mine included) who built this wonderful House of the Lord are cheering us on from the other side of the veil as the updates are made. They know! They know!

Sure maybe the temple will survive a total geographical change and destruction like in third Nephi and maybe a massive earthquake etc will hit Salt lake. But imagine the hundreds of thousands of people that will die at that event. The church or those that receive revelation for all hopefully they’ll warn people to leave the areas with a fault line running through them before an event happens. Makes me wonder why they don’t also make churches earthquake proof especially along the fault zones.

As far as the Salt Lake Temple, I had only done a couple proxy endowment sessions, a proxy sealing session, and attended the sealing of my younger brother and his wife there about 11 years ago and a friend's sealing almost 10 years ago. Also, my Uncle and Aunt were temple workers there for years and I got to see my Uncle act in a live endowment session. And he took me around pointing out significant places in that temple, such as the spot where a prophet (Joseph F. Smith?) saw Christ standing and the door that leads to the Holy of Holies which was a pretty incredible and significant experience for me to learn and be near. They were all wonderful experiences, but since I had only been there a handful of times I don't have strong nostalgic feelings about the aesthetics inside, but I do understand wanting to keep the historical elements intact as much as possible. I agree with the reasons given in this video for the changes. It really is in preparation to fulfill God's purposes, including allowing more members to serve there and for more sessions to be performed there at a time, as mentioned. It's also in preparation for the work that will continue during the millenium after Christ's return. God's gospel and church will always be ever increasing and expanding until all his purposes are fulfilled.

When something is written in a book that's over a thousand years old, it kinda easy to try to fulfill prophecy after the fact. @douglasnielson82502 ай бұрын
Go look up Truman Angel’s original Salt Lake Temple drawings. The original floor plan was two assembly halls on top of each other. Then it was similar to the Nauvoo temple in layout. What was completed in the 1890’s was Don Carlos Young’s revision of the original plan. He put a continuing progression of ordinance rooms in. It always had the feel of a retrofit to me because you have doors that access the west and east foyers from various ordinance rooms. So what we think the original layout is really was a redesign because the endowment became more important than having a main level assembly hall.

Apart from the high volume of marriages that have always taken place there, I don't remember ever seeing endowment sessions struggling for enough room to accommodate everyone. In fact, even then, there could be five companies progressing through simultaneous endowment sessions, no different really than its announced new capacity. When I came out of the last session I attended there, which was almost empty on a Saturday afternoon, I discovered that the Church's shopping center across the street was absolutely teeming with people. It was a sad contrast. I loved the live endowment sessions in that temple. My favorite location by far. I'm very sad that the work of my ancestors has now been removed from it. I wish I could say it was located on top of a mountain like the Isaiah prophecy, but it's not. (It's a beautiful valley though.) Perhaps that prophesied temple will still be built.

I get why they did it too. But I do not think it was necessary. I understand that they would need to gut everything in order to do the structural upgrades that were needed. However, given the amount of land that is on Temple Square, and how big the Amex already is, it would not have been difficult at all to add five “high speed” endowment rooms along with the traditional, five room progressive endowment. All leading to the celestial room. Yes the pioneer workmanship would’ve been lost still, but they could’ve restored it to the original renderings. That was their original plan. I just toured the Deseret peak Temple last night in Tooele county. And while a very beautiful building, very little if any symbolism remains in the building. These temples are becoming just work horses to get the maximum amount of work done before the millennium. Which is a good thing, but I miss the richness of the endowment and the temple.

❤ This is beautiful, but I do need to offer a correction. The correlation between Isaiah 2 and the SLC temple was made popular in the 90s with the Church movie Mountain of the Lord. I loved sharing that prophecy on my mission. As I’ve become a student of Isaiah, I’ve learned this is a misinterpretation. The SLC temple is NOT what the Isaiah prophecy in ch. 2 is alluding to. “Mountains” in Isaiah rarely mean literal mountains. To keep it simple, these verses prophesy of the exodus of the remnant of the Lord’s people to Zion, or the New Jerusalem. The Isaiah Explained app by the Isaiah Institute is a great resource in understanding and interpreting Isaiah. Sorry, hope this wasn’t a buzz kill. The rest of the video is still wonderful.

What scares me are the vocal apologists and propagandists for the church doubling down on defending that history, especially the darker elements.

History is fascinating, ever changing, and testimony enriching. Life is just a speck in eternity and when we pass on and see more clearly, I think it will be fascinating. We will know what is going on inside the brains, why they did what they did when presented with the circumstances they lived in. We will step in their shoes and understand so much more. The deeper into history, my least favorite subject in school 60 years ago, is now a fascinating dive. I often think, “how can we judge “history” until we are able to see the entire picture. Justifiable, we cannot.

@@droundyCubby History doesn't change. What happened in the past is very set-in-stone as truth. What's available to be seen in the current moment can change based on who's hiding things: such as Mormon leadership going out of their way to hide things such as the 1832 first vision. What you often find is Mormons pretending to be knowledgable and open with history, when if I mentioned Zina Huntington, and what happened between her and Brigham to you and your family, including all your grandkids, you would chide me and act like I'm the one in the wrong--instead of Brigham's choice being egregious and immoral. Because those who belong to cultish institutions refuse to accept their leadership has done wrong--so instead they demonize those who would dare bring up their leadership's choices. Mormonism is run by men with semblance to Kenneth Copeland or Jehovah's Witnesses leadership; they are not moral men.

You can buy and renovate anything with money
@LukeCh.10verse16-mb8om2 ай бұрын
And the fact is, the actual people of God have no money, and they have no church, nor any church buildings or temples. It is only the Godless people of the Godless world who are ALL fake christians that have money and build fake pagan churches and fake pagan temples.

Jesus was devoutly Jewish. He was very very Jewish. He preached from the Jewish teachings, "Its been written." He believed in the Jewish God. ...other than the Romans or Greeks multi-God system..also the surrounding desert tribes were multi-God as well. Abrahams God=Jew God. Jesus, the Jew.

I just hope the church removes ALL Moroni statues from all Temples, to more fully focus on Christ, and add dinosaurs to the endowment movie. :)
@droundyCubby2 ай бұрын
Moroni was proclaiming the restoration of Christ’s gospel and I love his statue trumpeting to the world. Honestly, dinosaurs were extinct long before Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve, as well as you and me are a distinct species and have something no species had before nor has now, a neo cortex. It makes us unique in God’s creation. God knew what he was doing.

Beautiful building with amazing art and details. But very creepy what goes on inside. I’ve done the endowments. accepting Jesus as your savior and living the 10 Commandments should be enough without having to wear special underwear. 😂

The whole Godless abomination of mormonism is all a 100% fake manmade fraud. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the God, the Jesus, the gospel, nor the Christianity of the Bible.

You are, of course, entitled to your view. But, my gosh, you have missed such a staggering amount of historical support, theology, and spirit that it would take a book to respond to your comment.

@@cohort29 ,...The fact is, there is absolute zero truth in the Godless abomination of mormonism. It is all a 100% fake con artist made fraud. It is the cult of the most ignorant people that there are.

@@cohort29You know what, you are right. Much of God's truth is simple. Simply put, the Temple is the House of the Lord. The promises to follow the Savior made through covenant in the temple are beautiful. God has utilized temples, holy ground, and holy spaces throughout His dealings with His children. It is okay with me if you or anyone else chooses not to accept it, but those are simple truths about the temple. Hope that helps you.
