I worked in the Salt Lake temple for just over 2 years as a full-time housekeeper. I knew that place like the back of my hand. I'm still trying to piece together how all the renderings will turn out compared to what I knew . It's extremely bitter sweet, and I hope I get a chance to walk through all of it.

I hope the spiral staircases are used more because of the redesign. Most people who went through the SLC temple never saw them. Unless there was a big meeting in the Assembly Hall they were hardly used.

Spot on Jasmine. Perfectly explained. I, too, was a bit sad when I learned of the revised renovations... but then I realized what these changes are really about. These changes will allow many more people who don't speak English to partake of the blessings of the Church's "flagship temple." The Church Office Building Plaza, with the flags of all the nations, now perfectly complements the expanded abilities of the Salt Lake Temple. The temples are going to get really, really busy. I believe our pioneer ancestors (mine included) who built this wonderful House of the Lord are cheering us on from the other side of the veil as the updates are made. They know! They know!

@koltoncrane3099 0 seconds ago Forget any prophecy that maybe fulfilled. Think bigger. Think bigger picture. If the church is making it earthquake proof imagine third Nephi happening. Sure maybe the temple will survive a total geographical change and destruction like in third Nephi and maybe a massive earthquake etc will hit Salt lake. But imagine the hundreds of thousands of people that will die at that event. The church or those that receive revelation for all hopefully they’ll warn people to leave the areas with a fault line running through them before an event happens. Makes me wonder why they don’t also make churches earthquake proof especially along the fault zones.

I think, as I was starting to come back "to the light" remembering being inside the Temple at the age of only 16 months old, had an affirming impression on me about how important that event(being sealed to my parents) is and how important Temples and the work that goes on there, is. As far as the Salt Lake Temple, I had only done a couple proxy endowment sessions, a proxy sealing session, and attended the sealing of my younger brother and his wife there about 11 years ago and a friend's sealing almost 10 years ago. Also, my Uncle and Aunt were temple workers there for years and I got to see my Uncle act in a live endowment session. And he took me around pointing out significant places in that temple, such as the spot where a prophet (Joseph F. Smith?) saw Christ standing and the door that leads to the Holy of Holies which was a pretty incredible and significant experience for me to learn and be near. They were all wonderful experiences, but since I had only been there a handful of times I don't have strong nostalgic feelings about the aesthetics inside, but I do understand wanting to keep the historical elements intact as much as possible. I agree with the reasons given in this video for the changes. It really is in preparation to fulfill God's purposes, including allowing more members to serve there and for more sessions to be performed there at a time, as mentioned. It's also in preparation for the work that will continue during the millenium after Christ's return. God's gospel and church will always be ever increasing and expanding until all his purposes are fulfilled.

As a veil worker at the SLC temple for a few years, I received patrons in English, Spanish, several other Latin languages, several other Germanic languages, at least one Slavic language, and several Asian languages, IIRC including both Mandarin and Cantonese. When something is written in a book that's over a thousand years old, it kinda easy to try to fulfill prophecy after the fact. Plus, with unlimited money and the control of local government, they can do anything they want without limitation of local laws like fire regulations on max people in a building

Go look up Truman Angel’s original Salt Lake Temple drawings. The original floor plan was two assembly halls on top of each other. Then it was similar to the Nauvoo temple in layout. What was completed in the 1890’s was Don Carlos Young’s revision of the original plan. He put a continuing progression of ordinance rooms in. It always had the feel of a retrofit to me because you have doors that access the west and east foyers from various ordinance rooms. So what we think the original layout is really was a redesign because the endowment became more important than having a main level assembly hall.

Apart from the high volume of marriages that have always taken place there, I don't remember ever seeing endowment sessions struggling for enough room to accommodate everyone. In fact, even then, there could be five companies progressing through simultaneous endowment sessions, no different really than its announced new capacity. When I came out of the last session I attended there, which was almost empty on a Saturday afternoon, I discovered that the Church's shopping center across the street was absolutely teeming with people. It was a sad contrast. I loved the live endowment sessions in that temple. My favorite location by far. I'm very sad that the work of my ancestors has now been removed from it. I wish I could say it was located on top of a mountain like the Isaiah prophecy, but it's not. (It's a beautiful valley though.) Perhaps that prophesied temple will still be built.

I get why they did it too. But I do not think it was necessary. I understand that they would need to gut everything in order to do the structural upgrades that were needed. However, given the amount of land that is on Temple Square, and how big the Amex already is, it would not have been difficult at all to add five “high speed” endowment rooms along with the traditional, five room progressive endowment. All leading to the celestial room. Yes the pioneer workmanship would’ve been lost still, but they could’ve restored it to the original renderings. That was their original plan. I just toured the Deseret peak Temple last night in Tooele county. And while a very beautiful building, very little if any symbolism remains in the building. These temples are becoming just work horses to get the maximum amount of work done before the millennium. Which is a good thing, but I miss the richness of the endowment and the temple.

So the way I understand what's happening to the Endowments in the Salt Lake Temple, is there will be 5 instruction rooms where 5 sessions can happen at the same time (most likely though will be separated by 20 or 30 minutes or so) and then after the video is done, all sessions will go to the "veil room" (the old terrestial room I believe) and finish the endowment. ❤ This is beautiful, but I do need to offer a correction. The correlation between Isaiah 2 and the SLC temple was made popular in the 90s with the Church movie Mountain of the Lord. I loved sharing that prophecy on my mission. As I’ve become a student of Isaiah, I’ve learned this is a misinterpretation. The SLC temple is NOT what the Isaiah prophecy in ch. 2 is alluding to. “Mountains” in Isaiah rarely mean literal mountains. To keep it simple, these verses prophesy of the exodus of the remnant of the Lord’s people to Zion, or the New Jerusalem. The Isaiah Explained app by the Isaiah Institute is a great resource in understanding and interpreting Isaiah. Sorry, hope this wasn’t a buzz kill. The rest of the video is still wonderful.

Believe it or not, there was a time in the dark ages, you know, before the 1980’s or so, when video did not even exist. It is true. Real people played the parts. They were not actors, but temple workers. The first video, if I recall correctly, was the Swiss temple, the only temple over seas. They could use a lot of languages with it. Worked out well and they recorded more. They also got much more sophisticated over time. It was always exciting when a new video came in. Some temples had more than one endowment room and over time, there were enough rooms that they could have different rooms with different videos. I really like that.

They could always build a new temple with the old style for the nostalgia if the Lord is so willing. Maybe with hidden modern features like slidewalks for those who would have difficulty in too much walking. Built with lifts/elavators in mind to carry mobility impaired people between floors. Recreate some of the history of SLC grand Temple. Preserve a legacy, offer modern concience and protect the downtown Central Temple that the 1st saints to enter the valley built.

I don't believe for one minute that those murals couldn't be saved. The church didn't want to spend the money it would have taken and instead wanted to turn this once incredibly beautiful building into just another cookie cutter temple.

Today I requested two eighty year old couples go through the EE system to remove enough age to have children. As a result of monitoring it can be determined how much age is removed each week. These are righteous couples interested in temple work. The Lord is revealing much more to those whose are willing to receive.

I understand people making a conscious choice to stay. The genuine value of the culture and community can lead to an acceptance that nothing man-made is perfect. I get it. What scares me are the vocal apologists and propagandists for the church doubling down on defending that history, especially the darker elements.

History is fascinating, ever changing, and testimony enriching. Life is just a speck in eternity and when we pass on and see more clearly, I think it will be fascinating. We will know what is going on inside the brains, why they did what they did when presented with the circumstances they lived in. We will step in their shoes and understand so much more. The deeper into history, my least favorite subject in school 60 years ago, is now a fascinating dive. I often think, “how can we judge “history” until we are able to see the entire picture. Justifiable, we cannot.

@@droundyCubby History doesn't change. What happened in the past is very set-in-stone as truth. What's available to be seen in the current moment can change based on who's hiding things: such as Mormon leadership going out of their way to hide things such as the 1832 first vision. What you often find is Mormons pretending to be knowledgable and open with history, when if I mentioned Zina Huntington, and what happened between her and Brigham to you and your family, including all your grandkids, you would chide me and act like I'm the one in the wrong--instead of Brigham's choice being egregious and immoral. Because those who belong to cultish institutions refuse to accept their leadership has done wrong--so instead they demonize those who would dare bring up their leadership's choices. Mormonism is run by men with semblance to Kenneth Copeland or Jehovah's Witnesses leadership; they are not moral men.

Jesus was devoutly Jewish. He was very very Jewish. He preached from the Jewish teachings, "Its been written." He believed in the Jewish God. ...other than the Romans or Greeks multi-God system..also the surrounding desert tribes were multi-God as well. Abrahams God=Jew God. Jesus, the Jew.

@@cohort29You know what, you are right. Much of God's truth is simple. Simply put, the Temple is the House of the Lord. The promises to follow the Savior made through covenant in the temple are beautiful. God has utilized temples, holy ground, and holy spaces throughout His dealings with His children. It is okay with me if you or anyone else chooses not to accept it, but those are simple truths about the temple. Hope that helps you.
