The Sandown “ghost clown” is a name assigned to a bizarre entity seen by two British children on the Isle of Wight in 1973. It is known for its highly unusual appearance, which may actually be an important clue in understanding anomalous entity encounters, including those with so-called “aliens.”

I heard a story once of a girl who saw a restaurant in the middle of the woods on a road from the back of her dads car out her window. It had Christmas lights but when she looked away and then back, it was suddenly a large silver disc floating above the ground. It makes you wonder if the aliens can manipulate what their appearance is based on personal experience. It would explain a lot of the whacky nonsensical sightings.

That and Sam itself is a truly striking and original image or character. Stories like these remind me of the weird things that I would experience as a child. I remember vividly exploring in the woods behind my grandmas house with my cousins and finding an old run down hut. Inside there was a small bookshelf full of books. the way sam acted made me wonder if he was abandoned, or maybe lost. it being afraid of being hurt and performing tricks for the children makes it seem like he used to be under someone's protection. one interesting thing i also noticed is that the door is quite low, in some places around africa people would protect themselves against slavers by purposefully building the door to be too low, this would force any would be attacker to bow down in order to enter and expose their neck to the inhabitants waiting inside. i wonder if sam also anticipated someone would try to enter his home uninvited.

Indeed definitely a strange account. Not totally unusual when studying alot of UFO accounts. .. It seems to me the whole clown/barn appearance was an illusion to lure the kids into ( a kid friendly environment) the barn under their "Own free will" The latter seemingly being very important. .. which was probably the inside of a UFO or an alternative reality... .. The premise is for abductees to voluntarily walk into any environment aliens create rather than using force. ... The silence often associated with UFO encounters is commonly reported in 411 missing people. Beyond creepy. TI, Bedtime stories + sister channel wartime stories, also a good source of high strangeness...I f one allows for a little creative writing. .. TI always finds the obscure strange encounters like beyond creepy does. .... I was excited at the Chicago O'Hare UFO incident as this one doesn't get a lot of publicity....

By the way of child encounters and other people not seeing anything, this reminded me of a paranormal event from my family's history. My grandpa's brother came home crying that saw a ghost of their recently deceased grandma in their shed (this was back in the 1950s'). When my grandpa and their mom went out to investigate, they saw nothing, but a sudden gust of wind (this was a windless evening) and a weird "swoosh" sound went right by their ears. Grandpa's brother was crying and said he saw "granny smiling to him, shining blue and hovering above the ground). He was certain of his "vision" till his death. My grandpa's mother also had a paranormal encounter of her own. She saw a shining white cow levitating 0.5 m above the ground on their field one sunny day. When she came closer to investigate, it suddenly disappeared.

My wife and I both saw small items sliding across countertops, being knocked off shelves, etc. One day my dog and I looked on in wonder as my wife's soft sewing tape measure unraveled itself and scooted across the floor for a foot or two... Then, nothing. I checked for earthquakes, replaced the batteries in the CO2 detectors, had the fire dept come out and check for gases, but there was nothing going on. Freaking weird, right?

Yeah there's some kind of intelligence on this planet that has possibly been here longer than us that we cannot see or perceive (unless it wants us to). And it can appear to us however it wants. It seems like the majority of the time these encounters are just this intelligence entertaining itself with us and maybe even possibly guiding our evolution. Whether it be in a positive, innocent way, or a downright scary, evil way. I think it's all the same thing. I believe they called them the fae folk in Celtic mythology. I guess that "demons" are just "angels" who are having a bad day lmao. I've encountered a UFO personally and I really got the feeling that 1.) It knew I was watching it and 2.) that it was showing off and doing cool formations and things to impress me. I never got the sense that it was an actual spaceship with a pilot or anything because that just would not have been at all possible.

This reminds of that scene in the TV series Taken where the young boy is visited by a giant cartoon squirrel from his book, and the creature lures him to a big tree with a door. Then the tree suddenly becomes a spacecraft. These beings probably pull images from the subconscious as to not frighten children when taking them. I've had experiences myself in childhood in the 80s. I used to watch a lot of music videos, and I remember seeing the dancers from the Robert Palmer music video "Addicted To Love" staring at me through my bedroom window. I dismissed it as a bad dream and have no memory of anything happening afterward.

This is the typical behaviour of pedophiles, acting like misterious magical figures to kids or dressed like clown in order for the kids to like them be curious and follow them, I saw similar pedohpiles cases like these where they do magical tricks to kids, talk funny, dress in funny customs, give them candy and other strange behaviours, and the outcome was really worse than this case, thank god that for some reason these kids got afraid or saw something unusal fomr this guy at some point and run away form the shack.

One of my favourite strange tales. I've often wondered whether there might have been a local 'eccentric' in the Sandown area at the time, effectively living as a recluse with no fixed abode. The use of the term 'mainland' stands out as something you would typically hear from an islander and not someone visiting from elsewhere. I went there a few times as a child in the early 90s, quite a distinctive place with a definite local identity. When I first read about this case the statement 'and I am all colours' reminded me of a quote attributed to Buddha (Samantāvabhāsavyūhaśrī), though I cannot find it now (all search results seem to be endless list articles, annoyingly). I love the grey-skinned, three-toed feet. A wonderfully unsettling detail. The implied Oz effect fascinates me, in science fiction terms I like to imagine entities somehow controlling our perception and occasionally 'tuning us in' to perceiving them. Cases where entities appear unaware that they're suddenly visible to humans spring to mind, as though they were simply going about their daily business among us when a piece of tech glitched out and they have to deal with a witness. Behave strangely, speak in riddles, vanish into folklore.

I'm not sure this clown was eccentric. I'm sure the kids would have sussed that out straight away. .. In order for an event to inspire strangeness or fear would have to be extraordinary event. .. To me the clown facade was one to create a kid friendly environment - one to lure the kids into the barn of their own free will.. ...I suspect the barn was indeed a UFO or alternate reality. . It seems aliens wish for abductees to willfully walk into a situation/environment created by the aliens rather than using force. .. The all colours Sam although may have deeper meaning may just be taken literally; bright & colourful = harmless. . Or in other words. An Aliens interpretation of a child friendly environment/ persona. .. I do like the last part of your comment. About unexpectedly being visible to humans and having to create a situation to play down the visual entity. From what I have read alien technology is not infallible.. See also shag harbour UFO event. In Canada.. Sometimes alien technology does break down.

I think you're on the right track regarding the "tuning us in" thing. I think that there are lots of anomalous entities in our midst, but we can only see them and interact with them in certain instances. Sometimes these instances are spontaneous, or perhaps arranged by the entities, but I also think it's possible to reach out to these entities in a more active way.

Very good analysis to include the Oz Factor. This is the most common thing encountered when seeing ufos, aliens or paranormal. As for the weird sound the kids were hearing, this is reminiscent of what you hear when you try to induce an OBE, or on D_M-T. Basically, what they experienced, was not part of the physical space.

most encounters, most legitimate encounters are all positive if they wanted to fuck us over they could and they would have already let’s be real, and they often make their presence known if you will to children because children are innocent, they don’t represent danger or a risk of harm that’s often times why children are selected to reveal supernatural or alien if you will messages to because they’re like a clean slate, they don’t have conceived notion’s or ideas already ingrained in them and they don’t present a threat or danger. They’re most likely to be receptive to these messages. That’s why you see a common theme with children being contacted and being able to see these entities and receive some type of message on them intended for humanity as a whole.

@jordanalandry1866 They're not all positive I don't think. There are factions, much like with people. I believe they are genuinely curious about humans, in a way. In a very alien way, it's something like curiosity. One interesting thing I heard is that Reticulans (greys) are fascinated with hats. Apparently they ask people about them quite frequently. "Where's your hat?" Is what experiencer Jim Sparks reported. He also said they use a technique he called image screening, where they can appear as anything they wish. Explains the clown, who almost looks like the Scarecrow from Wizard of Oz. Food for thought

Preface: I’m not here to debunk or provide skepticism. I love all of the comments and expanded theories under this video. If this encounter is so far afield from all other accounts, why not consider this to be something else entirely? It seems very plausible that Sam was merely a human dressed in a crude Oz Scarecrow costume trying to either entertain these kids, lure them for nefarious purposes, or both. I love the notion that an unknown paranormal entity shape-shifts into forms that are (naively) relevant to the observer! But also, an emotionally disturbed child predator who got cold feet at the last minute seems likely. Doesn’t account for the Dad’s altogether different experiences, tho.

why do we have to imagine all these stupid stuff?!? this was clearly a guy dressed in a clown suit or misterious costume trying to get the kids attention and get them inside a disposable building, a shack or a trailer to either kidnap them, or even worse.

My personal theory is that Sam was a friendly shape-shifting fairy/fey spirit that made itself look like a kid's clown to put the kids at ease after he was spotted by them. I also noticed it told the children it's name was Sam but then later told Fay he didn't have a name. I wonder if "Sam" was a random fake name given since part of fairy folklore includes having power over a fairy if you knew it's true name. If Sam really was a fairy those kids were lucky they ran into a friendly one. Most fairies are much more mischievous and often stole children away in traditional folktales.

One of my favorite entity encounter cases, very surreal. The clown's answer to the question about being a ghost is very intriguing. It has all the aspects that Vallee points out about the fairy and UFO encounters. It somehow feels like an entitiy that went rogue and is now free to do whatever it wants but doesn't really know how to take care of itself (tattered clothes, struggling to walk in the lake, surviving on wild berries etc). Very enigmatic character. EDIT: He says that he is not a ghost yet at the same time he is one in an odd sort of way. He also mentions that he is afraid of humans and fears being harmed. I think he means that he is a "ghost" in the sense that he is hiding and does not want be seen by humans and possibly the occupants of the UFO which seems to scan the island at night for something. And maybe the UFO was following and keeping an eye on the family since Sam got in contact with one of the family members and they might be hoping that Sam would come out to interact with them again and then they would be able to capture him. UFOs are a common sight around locations that people experience paranormal entity encounters. This is also the case for the Mothman and Bigfoot encounters. Sam also behaves like a child. Maybe he was just projecting the minds of the children on himself to appeal to them and have an interaction since he seems to be alone and might be seeking some company. His berry trick might be some effort to keep the children entertained to make them stay with him for a little bit longer. Children must have seemed harmless and playful to him. Maybe that's why he came out when he was hiding under the bridge. Or he might really be a childish entity who is trying to survive in this environment while hiding from humans and the UFO occupants. I think his clothes, the book, the microphone, the table, the chair and the heater are all things that Sam secretly took away from humans. The berries and the heater are indications that he is most likely a biological being that needs to stay warm and eat to survive or he just wants others to think so.

This is an interesting theory and I agree with the part about the UFO possibly searching for Sam, but the shed he was living in wasn't there when the parents went to investigate, and why would there be an adolescent alien traveling with its parents to another world and then run away from them?
@CYON4D
@CYON4D 11 ай бұрын
@@joemeschke I think the children misidentified a high tech craft as a shed. Or the craft might have a feature to disguise itself as a regular object to avoid attracting too much attention. Sam seems to have the ability to exploit the craft's capabilities which might include flight and invisibility (the workers didn't seem to notice or hear them). I don't think the UFO occupants are his parents but maybe his creators. I think he is either a multi-dimensional entity who is being chased the UFO occupants or some experimental entity created by the UFO occupants but somehow managed to get away from them using the small craft he is living in. The fact that he is fearful of others seems to support the idea that he is hiding. Or maybe he is just lost and couldn't get in contact with its kind for a time.

When I was a child I also had a strange encounter. I was about 5 years old. Me and my parents were visiting friends and having a birthday party in their friends garden in July. It was about 8:30 pm and getting dark. My parents were sitting with their friends while I was alone playing with a football in the garden. I remember kicking the football through the roofed garden entrance which lead to the frontyard of the house. When I was at the entrance looking at the frontyard, I stopped and saw a strange luminous worm or caterpillar like creature which was crawling across the yard. It was quite large, about 2 times the size of a dog. From the looks of it, it reminded me of The very hungry caterpillar. It noticed me, looked at me and smiled. I was scared shitless and ran back to my parents. To this day I am not sure if that creature was actually real but it always reminds of cases like the "Ghost Clown".

I've at least been aware of all the cases previously covered. Awesome to see one I'm completely new to. And this has so many elements of other myths/folklore. Came from under a bridge, hoped like spring heeled jack, wore an odd hat/tunic like a fairy/knife, winding up noise like some ufos and more I'm sure.

this is a fascinating case, so very different from a lot of other anomalies. that said, it's either amusing or suspicious how much this sounds and looks like a uk kids tv show from the seventies considering it took place in the uk in the seventies. sam would fit right in amongst other tv show characters. edit: the theory of aliens or unidentifiably entities being being projected onto by the viewer as something more recognisable is interesting too, I can imagine that being the case a fair amount of the time. who knows how unfathomable life out there might be, would our brains even process them? let alone if they are disguised in some way.

If you are a fan of anomalous stories, happenings, theories, then you have come to the right place. This is such an interesting topic to me after seeing a ufo/uap in 2011. I can binge watch this channels material and never get bored of it. Such a well done job at citing and documenting these different stories that have been around for so long. Thank you to the creator of this channel. Every time I am notified of a new video, it truly makes my day better. I look forward to more videos with everything going on in the world right now.

Thanks, great video. Compared to other channels, you offer "added value" - while others just retell stories that have been told 1000 times, you find ones that few have heard of, yet are able to tell us much more about the nature of the phenomenon, especially its absurdity. The illustrations are great too. Of course, one still needs to keep one's feet on the ground and acknowledge the possibility that the whole phenomenon is based on fabrications. It's interesting that once one becomes interested in the phenomenon, one very quickly becomes so emotionally invested in it all that one unconsciously overlooks the arguments "against" it. Not to be misunderstood - I honestly believe that something " extraordinary" is really going on around us. But it's strange how hard it is to remain neutral. And even more problematic is my use of the word "belief". Anyway... thanks again for the video. If you set up a Patreon or something, I'll be happy to support you at least symbolically.

Thanks for the kind words! I think there is too much dogma in anomalistics, and I think that the greatest breakthroughs will come from understanding the connections between different phenomena, and truly coming to terms with the "absurdities," as you say. I try to encourage people to do all these things through with my videos.

Brilliantly done. This short video covers one of the most unique, complex and strange stories in modern paranormal history, highlighting all the key points without missing subtle details often overlooked. The editorial is sharp, intelligent and focused, and the artwork and music are evocative and mesmerizing. The whole production is absolutely brilliant. I've known about the Sandown incidents for many years but I've never before seen it so clearly and compellingly related. Thanks...Even if the events reported were not "real" -- e.g., the product of hoax, fantasy, hallucination, misinterpretation, etc. -- the Sandown Clown case is still important if it brings us a better understanding of the psychological and sociological roots of folklore. Personally, I have not come to any particular conclusions about the story (it is only a story, after all; remember, all we have are the various witness testimonies, of different things in different places at different times). But there is something about the case that is emblematic of that kind of "refractory reality" we observe in many high-strangeness incidents... Things seem to shift around, significance and meaning warped, from one observer to another. The specifics of these dream-like observations and bizarre details defy logic or even any commonly-held perception or intuition. Beyond his general resemblance to a clown or scarecrow, Sam's "triangular eyes/eyebrows" seem to me to be one of those details, in common with at least several other accounts, which pass right through all our conventions and cognitive filters straight into our subconscious. We almost immediately grasp on a visceral level how unfamiliar and alien this is but somehow at the same time still recognize enough, or have enough experience on some level, to try to fit it into our various frames of reference. What gets me most about this particular story is how difficult that process of reconciliation is for me here. Very much like the high-strangeness incidents reported at Voronezh, Kelly-Hopkinsville, and Flatwoods, I find the details so ludicrously garish and absurd I just want to call "bullshit" and be done with it...but I find I can't. Something somehow rings true for me. There is *something* there. I don’t know what it is, but I can't dismiss it yet...

I keep trying to rationalise this as a man in scuba gear or something to do with water pollution. Perhaps it’s bits and pieces of aircraft or motorbike racing gear to stop fire damage since there was an airport near by. Maybe this Sam person was just messing with the kids saying he was a ghost and ate berries. The fact that the two workers on the pole didn’t seem bothered means he may have been one if their crew or something. Anyone know more than me, because I’m just trying to work with little info in these fields.

Something interesting about the psychology of young children is that they don't have a fully-formed and rigid idea of what's physically possible, and what's impossible. Seeing something so bizarre is not actually as terrifying to children seven or under as it is to us.

Both cases seem to be an amalgamation of several different paranormal themes, yet with credible witnesses who never wavered on their stories. Very interesting....
