Sounds like a precursor of the books like Red Mars, Green Mars, Blue Mars...

It's a personal thing I find, most of us click at least with one of the big 3.

I've never read any books of Arthur C. Clarke. Would you suggest The Sands of Mars as a good book to start with o r is there another book of his that I should read first?

Hi and thank you for the great question. I've covered a couple of Clarke's novels and ranked them on the shed ladder so you may want to check those out as it really is a personal thing. Having said that, there may be something in the plot overview that may interest you more. I tend to recommend 'Rendezvous with Rama' as a great first Clarke novel. Thanks and I hope to hear from you again.

10:56 I don’t understand how that’s even a minor criticism when you’re not female.

I thought I made myself clear, in the scheme of things, and compared to other books of the period, this was much better than most novels of that period. It is, at the end of the day, my personable opinion. You're welcome to say it's a major criticism when it comes to your own assessment. Thanks for the thought provoking comment.
