@hannahpapernick-yudin28464 ай бұрын
@@lotus_flower2000to me that's when the movie became not as good. I loved the first part and whenever I re-watch it I always stop around when they use the time machine. They also did the cliche "the two main protagonists have a mid-climactic falling out" which I hate at the best of times, but in this movie that combined with the sacrifice scene was just too mean spirited. I mean, after trying to befriend him several times, Spongebob saves Plankton from the town and this is how he repays him? Especially since it was really his fault that they got the wrong secret formula bottle. Now, what if it had turned out that the book has been controlling the townspeople the entire time, and that's why they want to sacrifice SpongeBob? Then when SpongeBob is about to be sacrificed, Patrick somehow gets a hold of the "The End" page that fell from the book (the one that Sandy thought was a prophecy) and eats it thinking it's a krabby patty. This somehow breaks the spell on him and he realizes everyone is being controlled. He saves Spongebob, and that's when he smells the krabby patties and starts chasing it. They all follow him (but without the main freaking cast being at the front of the crowd because that was also annoying) and the second part of the movie ensues.
@blademasterzero4 ай бұрын
To be fair, there are several episodes that dumb SpongeBob down enough that he puts himself in great danger. And he *is* good natured enough to self sacrifice in several episodes. He’s just not a super consistent character(though he’s become *less* consistent over the years he always had that element to him)

Because the way they had SpongeBob handled here is a downgrade compared to the leaked version.... and it turns out that according to Jay Lender, a writer on the show's early seasons and a storyboard artist for the film.... that's the case. Apparently, when asked, he brought up that none of the crew got any input on the movie, it was mainly studio driven. I'd provide a link but KZbin doesn't like that so I'll bring up that I learned of this from the Trivia Page for this film on TV Tropes of all places.

The moment the two get to Texas, the plot takes a nosedive. I've read fanfics about SpongeBob meeting Sandy's family. "Spandy" shippers outdid the official showrunners. I swear to God, the whole movie feels like Kaz (the writer) is taking advantage of shoehorning his fetishes into an official product and getting paid for it. Apparently this movie was planned and pitched while Hillenburg was still alive and loosening his stance on SpongeBob Spin offs. But damn this somehow felt like the most rushed hack job of a movie they could make. And it doesn’t even feel like they tried. I could forgive the movie more if they tried to do anything new like recent seasons. It’s as you said, it’s a previous episode Texas done worse. I can also give the 3rd movie a pass because despite being a repeat of “Have You Seen This Snail” and the 1st movie they tried bringing new things to the table related to the story. Love or hate Camp Coral, it was something. Despite being Sandy’s movie and adding this circus part of her backstory, they did nothing to expand why she wanted to go underwater anyway and I felt nothing in return. They try to make it seem like Sandy and the Wanda Sykes lady with the Geroge Lopez Show bobble-head are the same, but couldn't even give us a motivation as to why Sandy became interested in Sea Life to wanna live in Bikini Bottom to justify this lame "we're not so different" monologue.

Spongebob literally feels like 3-4 different shows to me (Spongebob as a character applies to this too). Seasons 1-3: Consists of a chill guy thats a bit naive/childish. Filled with different characters with defining traits that are not their sole personality (more complex/not one-note). Seasons 4-5 (unsure whether this one fuses with other seasons): Characters start to become more simple/one-note. Spongebob gets louder, more dramatic, and annoying. Seasons 6-9.5: Characters are pretty much reduced to 1 or 2 traits turnt up to an 11 (said traits are their whole character) Spongebob is pretty much stupified/infantilized to an exteme to the point where you question how he functions. Seasons 9.5-Current: Sugar-high, hyper show that really needs to take a moment to breathe (haven't seen a lot of these seasons so I can't really give an accurate review). Very hyper LooneyToons-esc feel where there are constant bright colors, movements, dramatic expressions, etc. Don't get me wrong, each season has it moments (some WAY more than others), but it's clear to see how much the writing has changed over the years.

Season 5-onward this statement is true spongebob season 4 try to have heart of the OG series while season 5-onward main joke is gross out humor showing their skins, dark jokes that don’t feel like spongebob like planton wanting to die or the joke squidward wanting to die in are you happy now. Season 4 doesn’t act anywhere close to season 5 and onwards hell even with out of character moments SpongeBob or Patrick will admit what they did was wrong in later seasons they don’t care if squidward is in pain such as great examples pat sitter pat where patrick wanted to burn gary!? Or choir boys where SpongeBob told squidward to shut up when jellyfishes are stinging him. You can’t compare season 4 to later seasons cause season 4 spongebob acts completely different to season 5-onward. Spongebob in season 4 would not blame gary for hurting someone the fact spongebob care about gary when he ran away and spend all day even skipping work/depression just to find gary while season 6 spongebob seeing gary being hurt from puffy fluffy and blames him for no reason.

I think most of the Netflix kids' content since the beginning of this decade feel like it's either appealing exclusively to a pre-school audience or the writers of these shows and movies don't how to write more consistent stories that everbody would follow. All of their recent serialized shows, such as MLP: Make Your Mark and Sonic Prime, felt like not even the characters were keeping up with the plot and nothing mattered until either the season premieres or finales.
@sharkjumpingwalrus67444 ай бұрын
I would argue that that death, or the franchise ending would be a good thing to most franchises. A show ending on a high note is better than being dragged out like some clingy Dr. Frankenstein won't stop trying to inject more life to a dying show. That's what drama queens forget about shows that get dragged out like this. It's less dying then it is being dragged too thin, like butter on too much bread. Granted "Dead to me" is an expression that they might be trying to invoke. In which someone does something so awful that the people related to that person no longer want anything to do with them, and treat that relationship ending as final as death.

Now if you want a real Sandy cheeks movie, Here’s how it would go: First, Have it be an origin story about her life before bikini bottom. How she grew up, got into science, and ultimately deciding to leave her family in order to study marine biology. Next, no retcons. Like don’t have her be a flying squirrel and her sister Rosie should still be older than her. Also, no weird fetishes like pool tickling, kissing a mutant fish or liking the smell of animal dung. For new characters, i would suggest bringing back the three chimp bosses from chimps ahoy as we see Sandy meeting them for the first time and after some time they decide to hire her. Plus the return of sandy’s old karate teacher, who she also first meets at some point and he begins to teach her karate. And the villains would not be a bunch of mediocre human scientists, but instead be the actual Dirty Dan and Pinhead Larry as mentioned in survival of the idiots. For their species, Dan is a pig and Larry is a porcupine. But they would be secondary antagonists as they are part of a gang led by a much bigger threat. And picture this as the final scene: we see Sandy settling in her tree dome, she heads out to explore the local area, and ends up getting into a fight with a giant clam. and as she slowly pries the clam jaws open, we see some light shining from above where she looks up and spots SpongeBob. And the film ends from there. So yeah, this is how you make a real Sandy movie. No disgusting fetishes that were documented on “Quiet on the set”, no annoying SpongeBob antics, no live action scenes, no retcons, etc.
