Peter, do you favor a heavier arrow for hunting? I know some archers shoot lighter arrows even down to 400 grains for more arrow speed, but there is definitely a happy medium between arrow speed and arrow momentum that has to be considered for hunting and adequate penetration. I watched another video by a traditional archer and his penetration testing showed that going from a lighter arrow, say 450 grains, had substantial increase in penetration when he shifted to a 500 grain arrow. I think most archers want good penetration, but you can go so heavy that an arrow seems to shoot in slow motion and drops in trajectory like a rock, allowing animals to substantially react to the arrow and drastically change the arrow point of impact on the animal.
@peterjuulsgaard11 ай бұрын
I have several factors I consider. 1) what animals are we hunting 2) what are we accurate with 3) noise from the bow In my personal case, I prefer slow arrows, meaning around 150-160 fps. I simply shoot too high with arrows flying 180 fps. So if I’m shooting a faster designed bow, I simply have to increase arrow weight to get it in the 150-160 range. If I’m going to shoot a wilderbeest size animal, I will use a 600+ grain arrow. But for a Roedeer a 450 grain arrow is just fine. But if it shoots 180 fps. I might as well stay at home.
@krownedklown420klik911 ай бұрын
I too like a 600 grain out of a 50# bow, quietens the shot, and hit like a truck😂😂, however it does damage the foam targets a bit. And judos that heavy destroy aluminium cans 🎉😂.. I'm going to need another bow rack to get one of these😢😂😂

Good shooting Peter. I've been wanting to shoot a longbow, but I already have about 12 or 13 bows, and couldn't convince myself that i needed another one. But after seeing you shoot yours and finding out what the price is for this bow, I don't think I'm going to talk myself out of this one. Thanks for the video Pete. By the way, where are you located? Just curious. Thanks again friend. Jim

Peter, great video. You didn't mention how the bow feels upon release,..is it clean shooting? Pound for pound, does it pull smooth?
@peterjuulsgaard9 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Well I’m not a Hill Style specialist, so thats also why I dont talk too much about feel. It have a little hand chock, but are fairly quiet. The drawforce curve seems kind of stabile without stacking too much at the end. It’s a 68” bow, and I’m drawing around 27-27,5” so pretty smooth for me. Anyway it’s also only 150$ right?

I haven’t shot a Bear Montana. But looking at pictures those two looks pretty similar.
@Cylenchar8310 ай бұрын
@@peterjuulsgaard they do look really similar, that was the first part of what prompted the question. The second part was curiosity in how the difference in length impacted the hand shock, which is a common complaint with the Montana.

The chinese brand have been around for some time. And are common among target archery and Olympic style recurve. But they have resently launched a wooden long and recurve and sent them to me to test. They are beginner sets, with alot value for the money

@@peterjuulsgaard Thanks Peter, I have been looking for a Hill style longbow recently. The very good ones (St. Patrick. Black Widow etc...) are very expensive. I might try this to see if I like them first. Last question: Is it cut to center?

@@manuelwebe looks like it’s on center or to center, but there is a rather thick strike plate ob it, though. But maybe a thinner piece of leather will do the trick

Hello! New into archery and just got this amazing beginner bow. I noticed that the string is closer to the lower limb (positive tiller), rigth? Is that normal in this bow? 🙌🏻
@peterjuulsgaard7 ай бұрын
Yes it is normal that there is a positive tiller, because it’s tillered tor split finger grip. You can shoot it 3 under too, but then you need a higher nocking point

How about quietness of the longbow
@peterjuulsgaard11 ай бұрын
The longbow is more quiet than the recurve, I would say. But it’s hard to hear on a video from a camera with a sensitive mic, when you are standing next to it. I think all my bows sounds loud on camera 🙈. Anyways It is probably not the quietest in the world, but difficult to hear on video though
@austinhetrick58168 ай бұрын
How to you connect the fur to the string?
@peterjuulsgaard8 ай бұрын
I’m splitting the string to stick the one end of the fur strip through. Then I’m wrapping the fur strip around the string, and finally putting the fur strip through the string again
