The Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis/psychology/UGC-NET/UNIT-6

The Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis posits that language either determines or influences one's thought. In other words, people who speak different languages see the world differently, based on the language they use to describe it.
One big problem with the original Sapir-Whorf hypothesis derives from the idea that if a person's language has no word for a specific concept, then that person would not understand that concept. Honestly, the idea that a mother tongue can restrict one's understanding has been largely unaccepted.
