After the war the executioners were pursued by a unit led by Airey Neave to try and bring them to justice. The files on the torture and execution of Violette Szabo and Noor Inayat Khan remain open, according to an investigator I met who had trained with her in SOE. Neave later did important work in re-establishing the SAS. He eventually took up politics in the Conservative Party, and had a role in Margaret Thatcher's government. He was murdered by the IRA, who blew him up in his car in the underground car park of the House of Commons. As we approach the anniversary of the bombing of the Conservative Party Conference in those days, we should take a moment to remember all those who have fallen at the hands of enemies of democracy - the combatants, the spies, the emergency services, and the politicians.

The film “Carve Her Name With Pride” shows it was written by Violette’s husband Etienne who had died in Egypt in 1942 but this is just to add to the emotive value of the film - it was not the case.

Thanks for the cconcise & informative video. Is her name pronounced "Tzahz-bo", or is it "Tzah-bo"?
@dangr39573 жыл бұрын
Szabo is a popular Hungarian family name and the meaning is Tailor. Hungarians pronounce it Sabo. In the Hungarian alphabet there is a word ‘Sz’ which is pronounced as S in the English language.

@@dangr3957 Thank you! The knowledge regarding the correct pronunciation seems neither difficult or obscure to acquire, so much so that our narrator of this video should have been able to correctly pronounce her name...

Excellent video, except that I wish you would learn to pronounce "Szabo" if you're going to do an expose on her. As well as Maquis.

I think, to honour this lovely and brave young lady you may think about re-recording the audio and pronouncing her surname correctly. It is NOT Sarsbow as you pronounced it, but , phonetically, "Zaybow".
