There is SO MUCH gear set up… Event people often have NO IDEA how much money you have in that whole rig. To the audience “it sounds good” but when you hit them with the bill, often they are surprised… not everyone, but a lot of events can’t understand how much all that costs. But if they cheap out, they sure as heck know it “sounds like Sh@!#” - it’s awesome that you put out such a great product!

Wow...thank you! It's not always easy to know where you should be investing in. What is interesting about the industry is how much investment there is in new gear and the need to keep buying it. Whereas in other industries, the companies maximize the life of their capital investments. We would like to think we aren't sucked up in that cycle and we take good care of what we got.

I always enjoy your videos and I notice how accommodating you both are to venue demands and other persons involved. I focused on your comment about it being a two person effort. I’m a retired school teacher and sound and lights have always been my sideline passion. For years I had the benefit of hiring select students for the help I needed for some gigs but for the most part I lost that connection once retired and ran solo until I scaled down operations (if I couldn’t carry it by myself it was gone). I’m also very well aware of your investments and especially regarding the transition from analog to digital. Anyway, I digress…thank you both for putting yourselves out there and know how much your videos are appreciated.

Love you guys, Pre-rig your 3 box array in a rolling stack with bumper already on top. A paired 100' XLR & Edison to signal/power each stack. Roll stack under L25 pick and send it. Saves about 30 mins on the in and out. Stack rolls on trailer. L25's are just a pain no short cut. One time pay for every show save. Hope this helps get ya out quicker!

@@thesoundcouple we all are still learning 30 years of pushing gear and accidentally making noise/listening to the music between the pushes. A true cable rolling moving company that makes music. It doesn't pay more if you work harder. I was A2/monitor eng/systems tech with a US theater tour, 24 wireless and 16 IEM. Shure/Sennheiser IEM's as foreign artist prefer them, 3 routers. one for work bench, one for array management (Meyer Leopards) and one for monitor console (QL5) as these locations changed, faster to have 3 routers than cat6 run to each. 9 mixes to band/actors. Trust me the carts are the way to go. Look at Meyer Leopard or Lyon carts. Same concept. Have a front lip for the box to land/rest against and the make the cart angle the natural resting angle of bottom box when flown. Pin boxes to cart for transport. Will make it easy to rig. You guys are working your ass off. Love the positive attitude. Its a labor of love as there are very few rich audio guys.

Wow! What a unique gig! And, what a unique venue! The challenges of this unusual combination really teemed with learning opportunities for those of us who depend on the experiences of The Sound Couple to enhance our own production expertise. I was amazed at the amount of equipment it took to cover all the bases at this fund-raising event. The van seemed packed full and the trailer equally so. As usual, Bart and Stacy showed us a number of key learning points during the load-in and set-up. The use of the new Fabric Sign Guys’ “Crowd Control Barriers” does a really good job at protecting the Fantek speaker lifts and keeping those attending the event from tripping over the stabilizing legs. It was a very long two days of production for The Sound Couple. But, as observers and learners, it was a great gig for those of us intent on learning from Bart’s and Stacy’s experience. Thanks to The Sound Couple for allowing us to tag along.

Hi guys, I have an issue! We have a Christmas gig soon, and I will be doing the tech side. We have 2 people helping doing the sound, but still need to teach them. We need to connect the guitar amps to the PA. We have a XLR Snake but we have 2 options for FOH Placing. In The main control room where the lighting controller is but that is in the side of the hall wall, or we can use another mixer we have (Allen And Heath ZED 16) and place to the side of the stage and we can use a long DMX cable to connect from the control room to floor. The Speakers are on the ceiling and we have stage monitors. The help would be brilliant! Thanks!

Good to know that there are other options. In this case, this is the gear the band chose to use, so we need to work with it. To be fair, and not come across simply as a basher, we used wired 835's on a different band recently, and they worked good for them. So our conclusion is that it's a good mic for some and perhaps the wireless versions don't sound as good?
@mikaellavrell
@mikaellavrell Жыл бұрын
@@thesoundcouple I actually have both the wired and WL version of it and it shares the same character. It does sound great on certain singers, but overall the V7 is a better sounding microphone to my ears with much better off-axis rejection. Thanks for yet another interesting video!

Hi Guys. Regarding the 'Pecron'. I recently purchased a Power Station (FossiBot 2400W). I love it!! Saturday the gig outside was using a generator. One of the guitar players was getting a constant buzz - really loud - through his VOX AC30. Nothing would fix it. I brought him my Power Station and plugged his amp in that and bingo! Problem Solved. I was so impressed I am actually thinking of ordering one more and selling my Generator/Inverter that runs on gas! Keep both of those puppies in the van and NEVER have to worry about a gas generator again, thinking that two of these will easily power a band for a number of hours. Your thoughts?
@thesoundcouple
@thesoundcouple 3 ай бұрын
The biggest concern we can think of is "range anxiety". If your gigs fit the time spectrum of how long these can power your gig, it's a good solution. With a gas generator, you can always add more gas! We recently did charge our Pecron during breaks (we were using for extra power security)...it at least didn't go down more but these puppies take some time to charge!

Wireless Workbench 7 - thanks for showing your use case. We've also converted from scanning on the IEM packs and mics to doing a WWB7 scan and then getting s/w to the analyze and assign channels. We had 8 pieces PSM300 in G20 and realized by using WWB7 that in Toronto UHF TV channels 17,18,19,20 are all full so we sold this gear with full disclosure to a guy in Philly where those freqs are available. We like how WWB7 networks with SLXD but find the PSM900 and PSM1000 very expensive. We are considering Audio-Technica ATW-3255 IEMs as they have widest UHF frequency bandwidth and are about same price as PSM300. ATW-3255 have their own networking and management software app - I am very loyal to shure but am very disappointed with PSM300 experience with limited bandwidth and no networking and real-time management.
@thesoundcouple
@thesoundcouple Жыл бұрын
Our experience, as you will see in future videos, is that if you have multiple PSM300's, you really need to consider the combiner/paddle...which is a small investment itself. They are working out for us now, but if we were to do it again, we would probably look past them and move up. WWB has also contributed much to our success.

Thanks for quick reply - should have mentioned we invested in two 4 unit antenna combiners and paddles before going deeper with wwb7 and they did not make any real improvement to the rf dropouts - we just didn’t have clear uhf RF space in g20 in our area

Really enjoyed this, and very hard work for sure! On your iPad at about 38:56 and when you were backstage in the storage area at 40:47it seemed like your gain structure was pretty low on all the channels. Doesn't PreSonus recommend a higher gain setting, perhaps occasionally hitting the first yellow bar for the best signal to noise ratio? Or are PreSonus consoles different in that regard?

Hi guys! I don't do too many shows with drums but I noticed when I do there is a bit of a delay from the drums to the PA. Do you ever feel the need to delay on the mixer and any advice on that? Also any tips for using iPads outside in the sun? Thanks for all you do. love the channel! Kevin
@thesoundcouple
@thesoundcouple Жыл бұрын
We don't concern ourselves with any delay from stage. In theory, you have a good point, but there are frankly higher priorities. As far as iPads in the sun, UC Surface does have a "light" setting to brighten up the app. Besides that, we believe you just need to be prepared for the battle: 1. Be prepared and do as little config/setup in the sun. 2. Keep your device charged. 3. Know the app you are using. Taking care of the few things above will make your day go much smoother. Nothing worse than trying to troubleshoot issues when you fighting the sun.

Our big issue is using the music the bands are covering that assist with the enrichment of our content. To be completely honest, it's really jeopardizing the future of our channel. As the restrictions get more refined and stricter, it's getting more difficult for us to provide the content in the style we want. Right now, we understand we need to pivot and figure out another approach...we are still figuring out what this means. We have resorted to uploading pieces to check to see if it gets' struck...and sometimes it's not consistent, so we will have an entire video ready, and then we get hit....this is really hard to deal with when countless hours have been put into a video.

We have discovered that the revenue sharing option in KZbin is pretty much a joke. We are not in it for the money, but the current system is not equitable....the contributors receives a small fraction of the total revenue. The direction we are probably going is to probably post less content and make sure what we do post maximizes our value to the viewers.

You are shooting yourself in the foot if you are not up charging for those prank stands. Yes, it’s nice to have the PA in the air, but if you can’t make your money back on the shows that needs PA in the air, that’s a tough ROI. PLUS, a lot more work.
@thesoundcouple
@thesoundcouple Жыл бұрын
100% agree...the difficult part of this purchase was the fact that we could not assure ourselves ROI. Every now again, there will be a higher risk purchase. In this case, we accepted that risk as it allows for a couple of things...it allows us to consider shows we have turned down in the past, and it helps keep your services in pace with others. This is analogous to years back when we would charge for wireless mics when wired mics still got the job done...now wireless mics are pretty much expected.
