Manifesting is a cognitohazard. It's so dangerous as a concept for people with certain obsessive tendencies. Like imagine thinking that you have to constantly control your thoughts perfectly or else your magic brain powers will make the things you worry about come true. It's literally thought crimes. And it's prosperity doctrine - bad things happen because you didn't manifest correctly or you manifested the bad things by worrying about them. Everything that happens if your fault, if it's good it's because you thought correctly and if it's bad it's because you thought wrong. It sucks.

Yes, exactly! My mom is into manifestation and she tells me that if I think hard enough about something it'll come true. For so long I was terrified of accidentally thinking a tragedy into existence because of her (it was especially difficult because of my intrusive thoughts)

As someone in the manifestation community with bad intrusive thoughts, I hate this line of thinking because it’s so fucking dangerous and it gets spread everywhere by people who don’t know any better. A simple thought isn’t going to do anything, and because of these people, when I was still new to the community I was constantly terrified that my intrusive thoughts would manifest and that feeling negatively at all would make me have “low vibrations” so things I didn’t want would come to me. I wish it wasn’t so widespread because that’s not how it works at all

I had OCD related to affirmations at one point. Still, I feel there's too much hate towards stuff like affirmations, law of attraction, and manifestation. A lot of it could be explained with cognitive psychology, affective science, and behavioral psychology, without the new thought, quantum "mysticism", capitalistic, or new age aspect to it. And I feel calling it a scam is problematic. A scam, or a confidence trick, is an attempt to defraud a person or group after first gaining their trust. They don't seem to be doing that. Just charging unreasonable prices for imprecisely verbalized ideas.

Ngl even positive manifestation gets at my superstition issues with OCD, I used to see it a lot on tumblr with those "reblog this money cat to find money in your purse tomorrow" cause it made me worry like what if I didn't and I missed out, what if I scrolled past that post and accidentally manifested something bad, the whole "your thoughts affect your reality" sounds horrifying because ummm I don't want those affecting my reality!! As someone who genuinely believes in the craft and shit like manifestation i have to say this: We, the witchy community are also pissed because we are overshadowed by pathetic scammers who are insulting our beliefs and practices by using them for only some quick buck. Some of us do charge for money but that is because we need it to survive this world, especially for us who make this a business. Spirituality and witchcraft are still a taboo thing and painfully demonized 💔. I also eyeroll when i get a fyp reading that my ex is coming back to me but the person doesn't even look at the cards and the cards are the 3 of swords and the tower. (3 swords pierce a heart. Its not good! And for the tower, a crown is being knocked off it. You can assume the rest.) So many are stuck in bullshit and psychosis. So many are ableist or scammers. So many are just very bad people. Please do not let this damage your view of anything witchy. It is a beautiful yet hidden part of the world. That is why it is exciting for us to finally explore it. I'm not spiritual/religious at all, but even I can sense that a lot of these Tiktokers are grifters within the community. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't such spiritual readings meant to be more personalised? Like Tarot card readings are usually towards one person, not directed to 150k people who viewed the tiktok. But all these big manifestation tiktok always start with "If you see this on your FYP, it is fate manifesting this reading to you", which is like ???? It's Tiktok's algorithm that brought me this video. Plus all these big manifestation tiktoks all revolve around your crush liking you back or getting back with one's ex. Once an entity was asked "how do humans learn to get the tangible better" and their response was "humans are not meant for the tangible". This is one example of a response to humanity. I have OCD and the worst thing for my mental health is to get into the belief that my thoughts can change the reality around me. Most of those thoughts and obsessions are negative, and thinking that I could "manifest" something awful into my life makes those thoughts feel even more harmful. Wurld, I got you. "Shadow-work" is basically a means of making peace or coming to terms with the dark aspects of one's personality. Sure, the applications for spiritual practice are nice, but more than anything, I believe it is more about the therapeutic aspects of growing one's self-esteem. I think it's healthy to go into any situation with some level of skepticism. Even with my beliefs, I leave room for doubt. This is a great video, full of nuance.

heya, i consume subliminals (in yt), but i dont rely on them fully(?? if at all). i tend to listen a lot especially before exams (like those academic subliminals) bc i noticed that i have a very pessimistic view of myself and my memory, so the videos helps me cancel those thoughts. it helps me avoid the feeling of achieving nothing whilst doing everything. some of the subliminals ick me though, especially when they reach the "if you ignore, something bad will happen to you!!" like bro a lot of people need validation from these videos, dont threat to take away them. it doesnt help imo.

This was a great video. So glad I found your channel because you make really interesting content. It's so nice hearing someone call out the manipulative people who prey on people's emotions, struggles, insecurities, spiritually, etc, just to get engagement. As other people have mentioned, those types of videos can be extremely triggering for people who have OCD and anxiety. Something else I wanted to add about subliminals is there are some I've seen that are super messed up. I believe they're called "underground subliminals." When I say that they're messed up I'm talking about things like wanting to be abused (physically, emotionally, s*xually), wanting to be the victim of a p*dophile (sometimes they even include wanting it to be a specific person like their teacher or a family member), wanting to be disabled (some examples include Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Autism, Fibromyalgia, Arthritis; some of them mention wanting to be disabled but have it be "cute," get them attention, as well as needing mobility aids), wanting certain mental illnesses (Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, Borderline Personality Disorder, Anorexia, OCD, etc), wanting to change their race, and just a bunch of other horrible things. I really worry about the young people who are listening to these subliminals because you're obviously not well if this is the type of content they're seeking out.

I’m only halfway through the video and I couldn’t agree more. I was first introduced to the witchy/spiritual community on TikTok when I was 18 and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I've manifested the house I lived in, the job I was at, and my career path. The house I happened to see while I was visiting my god mother and I went "I wanna live there." Three years later I lived in that very house. I said I wanted to work in a specific store and it was either that or become a writer. I worked at the store, then COVID happened which forced me home and then my daughter got diabetes so I'm on SSI. I have the ability to write now lol. i'm someone with obsessive tendencies. some of those things those videos promote really play into that in a frustrating way because it's obviously they just want views and clicks. chain mail and chain mail adjacent stuff like that is so frustrating, it plays on your guilt; to try and get you to share it more and it spreads like a parasite to those around you, who also now have to be confronted with this guilt-tripping content and make the decision to spread it or not and many people end up spreading it not because they want to but because they feel like an obligation or social pressure to. i hate it. i especially hate those sorts of things which are like, "share this if you support [ insert cause] i see who skips" because it becomes less about the actual cause and more about trying to make people feel bad for not sharing this parasitic media online. it's not true for everyone who shares it (because a lot of people do to escape being seen as bad by others online) but some people who share stuff like that, don't really care about the cause itself but just want to feel morally superior than to those that do not share it and its demeaning to the actual cause. like there was no reason to post something like this other than to make people feel bad. also, like i have a thing for playing cards and i like trying to "predict" with them. it's not something i necessary believe in 100% but there's something about the whole routine of it that's comforting, however i can get quite stuck doing it. i stress a lot about relationships with other people, and though in some ways i agree it can be percieved as manipulative or it would be weird for another person to find out that i sit there flipping cards to reassure myself of whether they actually like me or not but i often find myself getting stuck worrying about things and idk it's a way to help move past that, without letting that sort of anxiety get in the way/outwardly impact my life

Sadly my mom has fallen down this rabbit hole, on the Facebook side though. I feel like on Facebook it can get worse the more you like that type of content. The deeper she went into it the more (from my POV) it started to sound delusional. She is DEEP in this to the point where when I would try and tell her how crazy most of THOSE videos sounded, she would lash out and say that since I don't know or I don't believe in it "Of course you won't think its real." She would listen to subliminals and call them "mega herts" (or however you spell it). It's sad she fell so deep and I feel she uses it as a coping mechanism so I can't really stop her.

the amount of accounts I had to block bc these actually make me paranoid and all. Usually I scroll pass the "he'll text you back" bc im not into men but the ones that are like "SOMETHING BAD IS GOING TO HAPPEN" in my head that genuinely scares me so I do those private sound stuff but then quickly block the account after lmao im trying to manifest for more yaoi on my fyp and less of that manifest bs lmaoo

The trick with manifestation videos is that only people who have good news will post/comment about it after watching the manifestation videos causing the video will seem more legitimate where as people who have no news or negative news will not post/comment about it and would probably just go onto another manifestation video or stop watching videos like that.

I've been getting your videos recommended to me for a minute but finally had the time to watch one and OF COURSE it's the one that has a random sidenote on TeX, I'm sobbing [even if you called it outdated :(] she is beautiful to me and my inability to structure homework + write research reports. Great video btw!!!, and it's pronounced "Tech" because the X is actually the greek letter Chi, and it's basically to microsoft word as linux is to windows. But again, great video, these videos and posts can really be such big issues unfortunately :(

Also as a 'talisman' against that type of post, the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics was presented for specifically proving as much as is scientifically possible that "hidden variables" do not exist, and there's nothing you can "tap into" to like, change the outcome of things from a scientific perspective. (The spirituality side is obviously unrelated, not trying to critique that, just don't like people trying to add science to this stuff w/ how it affects people)
