as someone who use to work at brand Melville a long while ago. I can tell you working there is unpleasant. they overwork these teen girls, with a 30 min lunch break. 8 hour shift. most of these girls have eating disorders. they're not naturally skinny, working there was sort of like the modeling industry which is very toxic for your body image. if I could go back in time I wouldn't work there just bc the damage it did to my self esteem. to work there you need a certain amount of insta followers cause they use the teen girls as free marketing to post their merch on insta. yeah some of the girls that worked there were bitchy and stuck up or self absorbed but there were also some nice girls there too. i felt like an outsider when I worked there so overall in hindsight it wasn't a great experience. I haven't shopped there since.

Spoiler alert, 8 hour shift with a 30 minute break* is absolutely normal. That's not overwork, it may be entitlement. If you work between 6-8 hrs, your entitled to 20 mins. Over 8 hrs, entitled to 30. Most people in retail work the same hours

@vipset87
@vipset87 4 ай бұрын
@@angelblue52 yes 100% ESPECIALLY teens! That's how society works. This isn't a job you need a degree for, minimum wage is intended for jobs like these. Should teens be paid more than adults because of their age? If a teenager is too young, they shouldn't be working in the first place, there's a legal age limit. No one is forcing these kids to work. They voluntarily chose THIS job! There are plenty of other min. wage jobs that don't require degrees but the truth is, they wanted to work there. If they're hiring children, thatd be illegal and an even bigger issue. I don't want to be mean but it seems you've got some growing up or maturing to do. That kind of logic is unrealistic. Life is hard and unfair.

In my experience, the only time "one size fits all" kinda works the way it's supposed to is when it's adjustable clothing like kimonos. Mind you, I still had to find a plus sized version cuz the normal ones don't have enough fabric to cover me 😂

I went to Brandy Melville with my friend, and i dont shop there but she does and she invited me (Her name is Sonia.. and shes white .. obv) . When i told you it was like the Twilight Zone, like i was in a physcological thriller. All the workers there looked practically the same ... I though they were all clones (red flag one) then I as we walked into the store she was looking for those tank tops with the flower design so i stood just looking around.. and one of the white girls in the store came up to me and asked did i work there 😭??! But she said it like she was afraid , it confused me so badly? And I wasn't even wearing anything that they were wearing. I said no and then she just...stared at me? So i walked away back to my friend... All right, cool i thought. (ALAO ITS SO FUNNY U TALKED ABOUT THE OLOVE OIL) cuz i saw this grown man (im assuming he came with his daughter and he was just staring at the olive oil ... Its so weird .. the whole experience was weird, and it felt so dark but happy ANYWAYS I WONT GO ON CUZ THIS STORY IS LONG BUT YEAH, its weird your talking about this... brandy Melville is really famous for being this type of culture. It’s a really big phase in middle school I guess where the popular size 0 girls fit into brandy Melville, it’s kind of like a pivot in youth when you start realizing how you wish you were skinnier or your seventh grade war flashbacks come back. And now Brandy Melville is starting to become a culture more and more by itself like an entity. And it’s so interesting. Because they take music, artists and olive oil, and things that kind of unknowingly represent their own culture with this clothing that is very basic, but rather represents who you are in society. And if you are not what they want, they will not have you. You have to be skinny, preferably Caucasian, or with Eurocentric features.

I’m a white skinny girl living around the la and San Diego coast area. I’m goth but Jesus Christ the brandy Melville craze was horrible. Bc I’m underweight (I.e the ideal size for there “one size fits all” clothes) I had girls at my school repeatedly making comment about my body. It was terrible
@youresinningtoo3996

People need to be more careful of what they say too skinny people, even tho their body fits the standard, unwarranted comments, positive or negative, about body weight/shape/size are weird, and because you never know who's struggling with what and you could be adding fuel the fire. My older coworkers make random comments about how skinny I am, and makes me feel uncomfortable and guilty. But it's hard to feel allowed to talk about these things, because we should just be happy we fit the standard right? It's deeper than that, we're deeper than that. Brandy Melville knows it's deeper than that and their company's goal is fuelling the fire.

It’s like a campaign. Back in the late 2000s fast fashion brands used to do this. Like Pull&Bear they create like a Party theme and literally everything was about clubbing for no reason even the tags were an invitation to a part. It’s a marketing strateg.

And that's deliberate. Exclusivity is part of the brand. To make it unattainable, like you're part of an exclusive club. The designs are bland, so it's the hype around them, not the clothes itself. Much like Hermes forces you to buy a certain amount of merch to qualify for a Birkin - it can be about the products' unattainability more so than the product.

about the olive oil - maybe they also sell it there because olive oil helps with weight loss. it's rich in MUFA, which is reducing appetite, increases the metabolism and reduces body fat

ive seen the argument made many times that it’s okay for brandy melville to have small sizing since there are also clothing brands that make plus sized products. But the thing is that’s not the issue, it’s them putting the thought that such small sizing is considered “normal” and one size fits all to young impressionable teens and preteens. I’m all for making clothing that better fits people who need smaller clothing but don’t try and say that a majority of people should and can be able to fit into the clothes

I’m a 5’2 teenager and didn’t have interest in buying brandy, however I did get some hand me downs of brandy and yes. The shirts are cute, but am I going to actually buy from them? No.

For the music group I bet they’re making it based off of their radio silence merch. Since the chill since 93 restaurant was based off of their chill science merch.

just to make it clear, if your white and fit the size standard THAT ISNT BAD? if that’s what makes you happy do whatever you want. if you like the clothes, wear them. it doesn’t matter what some random kid on youtube says.
@WURLDSTAR
@WURLDSTAR Жыл бұрын
…i never said it was a bad thing. i had an opinion about the clothes and the brand so i expressed that. just because people enjoy something doesn’t mean that i’m not allowed to have a negative opinion about it
@ivoryy.editss
@ivoryy.editss Жыл бұрын
@@WURLDSTAR your opinion is completely valid and i do understand it is your job to make content people find interesting. i guess i just constantly get people telling me that i can’t shop there and how basic i am and it gets exhausting. i completely understand where your coming from, but i just don’t know how my size, my race, or my income has anything to do with the store. yes, the workers are typically rude, and yes they should be more inclusive towards more body types. but i just don’t think it’s necessary to call out the people who shop there, but instead talk about the business.
