Ever wonder what it's like being underground for 24 hours ...wonder no more and the next day, we are going to hunt for Gold Nuggets ( placer Gold ) . We heard strange noises and saw lights so let us know what you think it is. I also ask questions in the dark to try and get a response but not sure what to make of it. If you have ever done anything like this then tell us your story because we would love to hear it and make sure to smash that like button ....smash it HARD !!!!!

Just think many used to exclusively live under ground. And yes I could c you of all people doing this lol. U have that sixth sense for mines. Lmao at the beans. If u want the gold takes dedication and time. Never have slept underground. Don't seem so bad as long earth not shaking lol

I must say I have never spent the night in a mine. Of course all the abandoned mines we see are full of rats and bats which leave a stinky mess and would probably eat your eyeballs out given the chance. An active mine like yours is rat free I'm guessing. Hope you got that visit from your Pops. Thanks for the entertainment, Jeff!

Slept in my mine overnight once. Three hour hike in rain and fog as the night came on, straight up 65 degree climb. Began some Sierra blasting while still soaking wet, only a tee shirt and shorts. Around midnight hypothermia started to make me shiver uncontrollably and brought me to my knees. I crawled to the opening to get air and scrounged some old sticks of wood and dry leaves to start a small fire. A bat kept busing my head in and out all night as the opening is small. A pack rat kept climbing on my bare legs just as I might nod off, his nest was nearby. Boy was I happy when the sun came up and I was still alive, in fact I felt very alive! Cheers Jeff we love you and are inspired by you!

Use a flat shovel for mucking off a slick steel sheet instead of a spade off a plywood sheet which gets torn up and causes harder shoveling due to friction, Even light steel shelving pounded flat works good for a muck sheet.

Hey jeff! If you pull up a little bit of that track and start digging down deeper I'm willing to think that ground where the sun is travels all under your mine. I think you're walking over all of the gold! Start pulling up some of those rails and digging blasting and mucking, and then once you get that gold out of the ground under your feet, later rails back down. Heck! When I get there, I'm 6 ft 2 in tall, then I will be able to walk through your mine LOL

The only thing missing is the modern light weight ball bearing dowsing rod. I hope you waited to go outside to use the bathroom. I slept underground in the coal mines when we would work for four or five days with 24 hours of continuous working during the moving of the longwall coal extraction equipment. We would sleep for a couple of hours in shifts until the move was complete. Made huge paychecks doing this that Uncle Sam really liked. Have a safe, healthy good day.

They do several different trips for different abilities and include playing on ropes, abseils, zip-lines, bridges and all sorts of fun stuff. They cater for all levels and so definitely give them a look. In the same town is Llechwedd slate caverns who take tours underground. Well worth a visit. I can honestly say that it's never even crossed my mind to sleep in a mine! Definitely wouldn't be brave enough on my own, so I'd have to take a strong, rugged man with me. Failing that, I'd take my 3 dogs to keep me company. Not sure how I'd get them down into the mine though🤔 It's ok folks, I'm only joking, I'd never take my boys anywhere like that. For a start they like their creature comforts too much & still have a night light on because the middle one doesn't like the dark! Didn't hear any noises Jeff, but that doesn't mean there wasn't any. Your Pop is always with you, probably tut tutting, shaking his head saying, "Noooo, not like that. Here, gimme that pick axe!" You really are a great bloke & Lila is really great too. I spent a couple of weeks in a mine in Colorado while I was in between more satisfactory accommodations. It was more of a horizontal tunnel into the side of the mountain than your drift. There were no vertical shafts in it. It got kinda spooky at times, was about 8500 ft in elevation so there was alot of wildlife around (still below treeline) All in all, dont think I'd trade that experience for anything.

Greetings from Japan! I always enjoy watching your videos, thank you for the great work! I have slept in abandoned mines a few times. My experience of sleeping in mines is a bit different. Yes, it is good in terms of comfortable temperature (comparing to outside temperature), but...there are so many nasty creatures in abandoned mines....We have bats, spiders, and huge centipedes. I haven't seen any bats in your videos yet but here most abandoned mines have hundreds of bats...They sleep during the day and become active at dusk...Bats are not a good company at all))))

From 12 to 18 I worked in my uncle Al's mine. He had 3 sons and he began borrowing me in summers. No pay, HeHe, But he was a cook. We ate well. No mule when you had 4 boys just standing there. We did little blasting but he showed me how and when I was there I did it all. Most times we waited until evening so the dust had time to die down by morning. He took everything home with him and washed it there. He did show me once. He had a quart jar 3/4 with water and 1/3 was gold. Then I was in the draft....I never had time after that to go back. I kind of miss it sometimes.

The surviving miners of the North Mount Lyell fire spent 2 days underground before being rescued after a massive fire broke out burning the pumphouse to the ground. Beaconsfield Mine collapse left 2 men 1km underground from the 25th of April until the 9th of May. (both came out alive, sadly 1 man died shortly after the collapse) They make Tassie miners tough.

We had a mining claim on the north fork of lytle creek. We were dredging mostly, with diving gear. There was a retreat nearby that kept calling the rangers and they shut us down. Even with the claim valid and paid. Forestry still had authority to shut us down. Then, they tied us up in court. Such crap man! Nice Gold Tale too, South fork of lytle creek was the first successful hydraulic mining venture in Southern California (Texas Point). Also, one of the highest producing. Close to an ounce per ton. BTW, nobody ever found the source. ;) LET'S GOOOOOOO!

I worked for about 15 years on and off (early eighties thru the nineties) at a mining camp that included Burro Schmidt Tunnel in the high desert in Calif. We did have trailers there and when it got too hot or cold, we would sleep in the entrance or in the first branching of the main Adit. It was always about 60 degrees all year long. The owner died and the scrappers and vandals stripped / destroyed the place in the early 2000's. Never saw anything amiss inside, other than an earthquake or three, but we did have a barn owl which lived in one of the vertical shafts buzz our campfire at night and scare the crap out of us! I do miss it.

You could paint some glow paint on the walls. To help you find the way to the Honeypot. If the glow is gone the smallest UV pocket light or keychain light can cause the glow without hurting your eyes! (You can do this at home also) glow tape or paint, they even make powder. To put in jars. Mix in resin or clear paint or glue. And some are not visible in normal light only a florescent reaction, there is also tiny glass rods with stuff inside that glows constantly, I think it's slightly radioactive, a few could be used to mark the way. The glow last for like 15-20 years. Being dark 24/7 in a mine ! Loss of light is possible having glow markers can help ! Even a nail in the wall , with a glowing bar hanging from it will help.. use your imagination also there is industrial glow products that glow for hours! Used in airplanes, marking Walkways and exits for an Emergency, also exit signs that glow I think just a tape is available possibly a paint. Just an idea, it can also be used to find the exit!! You may need it!!

Never spent the night in a mine but have done a night in a hammock 112’ up on a limestone outcropping in the California gold country. Don’t let the Tommyknockers eat your beans, it’s dangerous and that is where we get methane mine gas. 😮

Ha, oh Jeff, why are you still using that squeaky hammer (12:36), 🔨 so funny 😅 Did you wake up during the night thinking you had one of them Red Worms in your hand, ewwww! 😝 I spent 3 days and 3 nights in an old Slate mine in Wales once, just for the hell of it. I was around 1/2 mile in to the mountain. Amazing how well your eyes adjust to the dark after that time. A little tea-light candle was able to light up a whole chamber, and wet Slate is very hard to light up as it absorbs as much light as you can throw at it. It was nice listening to the water flowing past while I tried to sleep. Now and then I heard some rock falls off in the distance (as you do if you spend enough time in an old mine), but it's impossible to tell how big or how close they are, apart from a small one actually in the chamber I was in 😬. No ghosts, no strange noises, no canabalistic humanoid creatures, in fact, not much to laugh at at all 🤨. I was absolutely filthy when I finally emerged though 🤣

Jeff, not slept in a mine before, but I’ve slept in caves twice. Nice Damp tropical caves with 12-inch long centipedes. We kept hearing Native American voices all night. I could make out some words but not enough to get a full picture of what was going on. How does that sound to you?

It sounded like running water to me. Yup spent a couple of nights in caves B4 The most memorable was a trip to pepper sauce cave in the Catalina mountains in the late 70’s. My self and 5-6 other young fools were enjoying some shrooms the magic kind. On day two all of us were sacked out it must have been around 10-11 am Surface time when we here the clatter and loud laughter and voices approaching our location. We kept hearing this one particular voice occasionally saying, watch out man you almost lit me on fire again. As the major disturbance to our pristine silence grew closer we could make out some weird red light and a few flashes of regular flashlight light. There was a very distinct hissing sound that came with the new neighbors. Just before they came into the large flow stone covered chamber where we were the one voice got extremely high pitched and panicked! He was hollering put me out! Put me out! Al of a sudden some young guy burst into our chamber flailing his hands and slapping his head screaming MOTHER *^#}>€€* I told you you were going to light me on fire mother£+%##

Jeff with all the dangers with mining what do you use for detecting carbon dioxide levels or other gases like methane and if you could show us how to use and how detectors work. Also with digging how do you determine radiation levels. I've heard that Nevada has uranium in the ground and other radioactive material. Other than uranium what other rock may give off radiation that might be dangerous for any ones health that mines? One other thing have you thought of digging another port in case something happens to the port you enter and leave?

I've always wondered. In mining how do you keep track of elevations and location? We've see where some miner has gone to the left and gone to the right in a big circle and had the two ends meet. And a number of mines that have meet up with each other. Is it a accident when they meet up or are is it skills. I can envision two drifts ( I think I'm using the correct term) going on forever parallel to each other. Can they hear each other through the walls? It would seem to me like moving through a pitch black warehouse chalkfull of marshmallows to the ceiling and having two people finding each other. OR do they simply follow the worm people's tunnels. Inquiring minds need to know!
