Hey Chris, I have a dumb question. Have you ever fossicked an old gravel or sand pit in your area? Do you even have such things in Ozzie? Here in the states, there are quite a few places where companies mine sand and gravel deposits, selling the product as play sand, or for construction materials. Anyway, they use a vibrating contraption to separate and grade the material, like a dry washer, I guess. Some of the old abandoned sites (usually from smaller, independent operations) still have tailings piles, with untouched layers of heavies in them. (After all, most people don't even know there is gold in my area, unless they are in the hobby...) Hope my question made sense, because I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack.

Some of these sand mines have lots of gold! Old prospector once told me a story how back in the 90-s they taught such mine operators in Bulgaria to extract the gold from the sand to earn additional profits. They simply added large sluice boxes to the wash plants. And immediately they began to extract on average 5 grams of gold per day. Enough to pay for the fuel cost of the whole operation! But they had to keep it quiet, because they didn't have permit for a gold mining company. 🙂They only have permit for mining sand for construction.

It is an option, but remember that battery powered equipment is still not as powerful as petrol engine powered equipment in terms of performance against weight. Don't get me wrong, I love the flexibility of all of the cordless equipment available today, but there are times when you need to assess which power source is the best for the operation to be performed.

When you have really low water areas as long as you have some flow dig yourself a good size hole in line with even a small flow and where you might not have had a deep enough spot to scoop water or pan it will then give you a spot where you have a larger sum of water that will build up and then not have any problem especially for using a rocker box or panning

The rocker box is one of the most inefficient ways to processes material.🤪 The only advantage is that it works with very little water.
