The best thing about Pumpkin Rabbit for me is he’s not part of the trope as “normal person that turns out to be a serial killer.” It’s INSTANTLY obvious that he’s fucked up and the antagonist. But the best part is the question is NOT “Is this guy bad?” The question is “How bad is this guy?” And when he’s shown mutilating children and turning them into unrecognizable husks, it shows just how horrifying he is.
@sleepy-fc6rf2 жыл бұрын
Another minor, but equally unsettling detail: when the Pumpkin Rabbit pulls off his mask, if you look very carefully, his face appears to be made up of human skin underneath all the unsettling miscoloration and deformation. Making him the only human in this world of colorful talking animals. It's just an added layer of eeriness to an already incredibly disturbing character, further setting him apart from the world around him.
@suemeade2471 Жыл бұрын
Too be honest, he probably wears the costume to keep the others from seeing he's a human. Same way a animal person ( not much of a better description of them.) Would hide their body. One thing I think you missed was the song that played during Ducky's reveal as a mutilated corpse. The cheery music itself is actually from a piece called "Streets of Cairo", which literally talks about the murdering of a "poor little maid" under the cheery music. @@Bigpancake270. It's all about reading into the lyrics. Verse One makes it pretty clear that the maid got murdered "All alone, oh what a pity." Verse 2 is about a man who dined with her now "sorry that he met her," and that "in the future he'll know better." The only reason the man would need to feel sorry for meeting her is that we'll, she isn't around anymore. Verse 3 talks about her being pursued by several interests, with the "One who caught her now is sorry". Either implying that the individual killed her or is suspected of killing her. Of course, all of these romance bits could be associated with her simply leaving town rather than dying. But it's hard to dismiss the line "All alone, oh, what a pity" if the maid simply left town. There is a very morbid impression left by that line which is why the song is regarded about her death, rather than something like her simply leaving town.

A thing I was kinda sad wasn't mentioned was the fact that the Pumpkin Rabbit had already been in the room Tammie woke up in. If you checked around 7:07 of the original video during the conversation with Billy you can see the Pumpkin Rabbit watching. Meaning that one he ensured that Tammie would follow precisely where they needed to go. Second that he had been waiting for possibly hours waiting for his fun to begin. To see the fear seep into his victims as they start wandering the house until they find the gathering in the basement. Puppeteering them by tricking them into believing that the basement would be a safe place. Where Tammie can find their friend and go back to sleep. But we both know that's not how the story goes. Additionally the fact that Billy is positioned *perfectly* in the corner of the livingroom means that he can ensure that Tammie wouldn't go through. Always watching and standing in the one place where no one could sneak past or surprise attack him. But could very easily block the door to assist the Pumpkin Rabbit.

TBH the thing that scares me most about the Mysterious House has always been the witch sheep following behind Tammy as she goes towards the basement. I have this weird fear of things slowly approaching characters, and the visual of the sheep getting closer and closer everytime the camera cuts back to Tammy hit me like a brick. Couple that with the fact that she's a Sha recolour, and that Sha's animatronic pose is just...really creepy to me, idk why. Also the fact you can see her close the door behind Tammy- that is terrifying
@endoBiologist2 жыл бұрын
I feel the EXACT SAME, especially down to the odd fear of slowly approaching characters!!! It is so rare to find others also horrified by this. I don't know which method of monsters/supernatural or mechanical forces doing it is actually worse and more dreadful... Either them; 1. Slowly, almost teasingly or savouringly shambling closer to you, taking their sweet ass time, or, 2. Somehow even worse than the previous because of how uncanny and inhuman and fast it is-- where they just stay still as a long-dead corpse, or machine, or statue, or something put on pause unnaturally in time, and then they just glitch forward closer towards you, seeming to "step in frames" to "move" towards you by crossing bounds and bounds of distance with just like, three frames of stillness getting closer so fucking quick that it chills you to your core. It's even worse when it's not an outright trying-to-jumpscare-you feeling, but instead a horrifying awful dread that builds up to absolutely no conclusion, leaving you to stew in your own fears for eternity for you never find an end to this 'Completion Process'. That entire concept of fear is what The Walten Files and The Mysterious House does as an entire theme, EXPERTLY. God, am I impressed by Martin Walls. (His creations and delightfully horrifying creativity AND his enchantingly unsettling voice acting for many chars (my ultimate fave being Pumpkin Rabbit OF COURSE--NOT EVEN TALKING ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE, WHEN DO U FIND A DOPE ASS VILLAIN WITH A CHILEAN ACCENT? *CHEF'S KISS* THIS CHAR DESIGN IS PHENOMENAL BRO) all he does with this series as a whole is and has been impressing me spectacularly since the beginning. 💜🧡👍

That's one thing, but it also mentions it was made in 4-5 _Days._ That's nuts! Is it mostly colored storyboard-esque stills with VO and a couple TTS bots? Yeah. But that requires drawing/creating every one of those stills, their backgrounds, getting together a few people to do actual VO, and the _mountain_ of editing and post-processing on all the visuals and audio. A tightly, suspensefully edited _13 Minute_ Analog Horror short...in under a week. Remarkable.

It's also pretty clear that the PR is able to imitate voices, which is what he did with Ducky. Surprisingly, the scene that got me the most wasn’t even the end, it was the one scene right before the end. When Tammy went to each door in the basement and the Pumpkin Rabbit got closer and closer with each door she stopped at. His face appearing when she stops at the first door, and By the second door it already looked like he was on top of her, but she still didn’t even notice him, only for him to look like he was RIGHT next to her by the third door. I was in SUCH suspense expecting him to do something at ANY moment. Just REALLY creepy.

Walton files' scary faces are pretty unique in my experience, because the eyes are heavily dilated. In classic spooky faces like good ol' Jeff the killer, the irises are shrunken to emphasis how wide they are. Walten files + mandela catalog both go in the opposite direction, making the eyes super dilated. Whether it be fear or pleasure, this thing is SUPER into you. And that's freaky.

Honestly, the biggest input that "The mysterious house" has putten on me is in the moment that the pumpkin rabbit has showed up in the basement. Like you said, we vouch for the main characters to get out of this situation but his horryfying figure that has unsettled us before and gave us a huge warning that he is the antagonist, now comes again to asure us that our characters have no hope for them left. Last thing is the mask. It looks so huge and uncanny plane like no other walten file characrer. The way the mask bends while he talks unlike the other cartoonish characters is horryfying. Now that I think of it, the transition from cartoon style to these weird animatronics monsters might playout with the imagination of these innocent children. When the child is naive and unaware of it's danger it tries to give light to everything that might even be a bit unsettling, but when the nightcomes and they are scared of their surroundings and they do not feel safe at all they depict them in almost off-wordly way. That's how I understand all of these transitions and the horror of this episode.

I think one aspect of the Pumpkin Rabbit that is not mentioned is his resemblance to Springtrap. While not a direct parallel to Springtrap, he is still nonetheless very, eerily, similar in both appearance and goals, but they are both different in their M.O. It is not obvious that they are similar, as you did not mention it in the video, but subconsciously you will still make that connection, particularly if you are heavily invested in FNaF. This means that even if none of the other evidence existed, you would probably still feel uneasiness around the character. I think another thing that is important but not mentioned is the name 'the Pumkin Rabbit'. It's not really a name, not a proper one anyway. While all the other characters have name, the Pumkin Rabbit doesn't. This implies that he is different to the others, and is just unsettling enough to disturb you when you think about it, and raises question about this character. One that is, ultimately, never answered.

The Walten Files are honestly some of the most high quality analogue horror (I think that’s what you call them lol?) videos I’ve ever seen, and they’re completely chilling yet so compelling to watch at the same time. My favorite scene of the entire Walten Files (I have a lot of favorites but this takes the cake for me) has to be when Bon comes alive attacks the man who explores the old storage facility. It’s really creepy, so unique, and the jumpscare of sorts is absolutely perfect in making you feel the DREAD. All the while you hear the guy say “what was that THING” while running away from Bon, and to be honest, it’s so well done (this is exactly why I love Squimpus’s stuff too, along with other programs like The Battington Tapes, Local 58, Gemini Home Entertainment, and The Mandela Catalogue). I also really like the morphing face model after the jumpscare, it’s certainly bizarre but genius at the same time to keep the tension up. So yeah, The Walten Files are simply amazing. But your explanation and detail analysis of this episode, especially the analysis of the pumpkin rabbit himself is great! I think that the point was that Boozoo was never actually ready to turn his life around at any point in the story. He never apologized. He begged and begged, but that doesn't mean he changed. To expand on what was said at around 8:15, there's another reason why the character deaths feel so personally terrifying. Most characters in the main Walten Files episodes die not only because of how naive they are, but because they started investigating in an area they were not welcome. There's a very common theme of curiosity killing people (or putting them in extreme danger in Sophie's case, we'll see where that goes), where the characters could have survived if they just kept their head down and not asked questions. But at the same time, these characters aren't just acting stupid and poking their nose into random haunted animatronics for the sake of having a spooky horror series moment, they're asking very reasonable questions and being killed for it. Rose just wanted to know what happened to her husband, Sophie thought she was just investigating a weird game until it was too late. Sophie even says "the curiosity is killing me right now." Yeah, Ashley goes way too deep into the obviously scary facility, but at the end of the day she just wanted to find a way to save her job. And in this case, Tammy just wanted to know where her friend is. Granted, I seriously doubt she would've been allowed to leave if she stayed in her room, it's definitely implied that she was deliberately set up so the pumpkin rabbit could blame her death on her. The only character death (so far) that doesn't fit this theme is Brian, he was just killed for resembling Sophie, but that was more for the sake of establishing how dangerous these monsters are to the main character
@kiera63262 жыл бұрын
I mean… technically Brian could have been killed for his curiosity, as there seems to be a gap in time between examining the animatronic and running in the woods. I think it’s possible that after he noticed that something was wrong with his arm, he decided to investigate Bon closer, and the camera just didn’t catch it. It’s important to note that yeah, curiosity was the direct factor which lead to their deaths, most of them had another factor which meant they would have died anyway (being on hitlist/looking like somebody on it). In that respect, Ashley is the odd one out as she is the only one who was killed specifically for no other reason than her curiosity (although how the hell did Bon mistake Brian for Sophie, but not Ashley??)
@vsptylore36392 жыл бұрын
@@kiera6326 I see what you mean, but Brian's case was just him doing a job, whereas the others were doing something they wouldn't normally do and being killed for it (hence the "she saw something she wasn't supposed to see and now she's beautiful" thing over Ashley's death scene). There wasn't really any indication that showed Brian actually caring about what's wrong with the animatronics. But, granted, the person who was put inside banny (I can't remember her name) had something similar happen, she was also just doing her job. Yeah, it's possible that there's missing details, like you said about Brian, but I feel like we aren't going to see anything else about that particular scene. Sure, it's possible she was investigating Jack's disappearance in other ways, but for now her death throws a wrench in that running detail.
@theforgotten53552 жыл бұрын
I would like to think maybe they would have let her go if she didn't got out of her room since out of all the missing children there's one that doesn't appear as a corspe and it's the dog dressed as an angel, which might mean that he was not a "naughty boy". Or maybe since it was the oldest their corspe was removed but idk

@@theforgotten5355 That would make a lost of sense, implying that the one dressed as an angel was the one that escaped for being well behaved. I doubt they would have removed the corpse, either way. @treppenturmzentrum1364 Жыл бұрын
I think a big reason why the mysterious house stuck with me for several days after I watched it, is how abrupt the ending is. In most horror movies where all the protagonists die, there is at least a scene after their death, which either answers questions about how the killer operated exactly, or teases the next victim, implying that the murders will continue. I don't think the video would have had nearly as big of an impact on me, if, after Tammy's death, the perspective shifted to a new kid being tricked by the Pumpkin Rabbit's friends to stay. By making the story end with Tammy, it makes her death more impactful, and all of the events that led up to it more terrifying to think about. Plus, by having the scene in the basement be the last scene in the video, it gives me the subconscious feeling, that I was trapped there too, never being alowed to leave like Ducky and Tammy, instead of cementing my role as an uninvolved observer, by showing me a scene outside of the basement afterwards. Once you're in the basement, you can never leave it, and that goes for the audience as well.
@maxdobeinabox2 жыл бұрын
And also,the fact that the Pumpkin Rabbit was in the room with them the entire time as seen in the beginning of the suspense part where you can see his face glaring over at Tammy on the slightly open door of the room,it creates this more unsettling and sadistic character for him and i freaking love it.

Amazing video!! Another thing I noticed from The Mysterious House is that, when we see the photos of the old victims including Johnny Bear, there are two kids who don't appear at the very end when Tammy finds the corpses. Which implies that there was actually a chance for Duckie and Tammy to leave alive from that house and I think that makes the story 10 times more terrifying. If only they were asleep for the entire night, maybe there could've been a happy ending after all.
@lzrshark6172 жыл бұрын
Personally, I think the only way they would have gotten out is by not staying the night at all. The Pumpkin Rabbit in particular doesn't strike me as someone who would be put off by potential murder victims being asleep. I'm surprised that his seemingly usual strategy involves them being awake and potentially able to flee and tell the authorities, rather than just jumping them while they're asleep and unable to react in time. I think that even if they'd slept the whole time, they still would have died and just wouldn't have had time to process what hit them before they were killed

The only difference being that Tammy at least seemingly got a quick and painless death as promised by the Pumpkin Rabbit, unlike Ashley who was brutally stuffed into the clown suit by Bon and was forced to just sit there, still alive, until eventually passing away from blood loss.

(Edit: Adding a Spoiler Warning here! Please watch the video(s) first!) I think what makes this so impactful for me, beyond the visuals (which are amazing), scares (which are disgusting and terrifying, and overall understanding of the medium and tension, is three things- the characters, the earnestness of the video, and the sheer taboo of children being the victims here. The characters- Unlike most of the Walten Files, and analog horror in general, we actually get a good few minutes to get to know our two protagonists. They’re likable, play well off each other, are clearly good kids, and overall just seem like they’d be good protagonists for a regular tv show. That makes the slow build up of the video SO much worse, because you actually like these characters and don’t want them to get hurt, unlike so many faceless victims in analog horror. Earnestness of the video- This may sound odd but this video is incredibly heartwarming, at least at the beginning. It truly feels like some old Halloween special that you might see from Walt Disney or another similar company. The music is appropriate, the characters are adorable, there’s clear effort but not corporate perfectionism, and most of all the voice actors are incredibly charming and talented. It all feels so REAL and welcoming. That makes the encroaching darkness so much worse because not only does it stand out far more clearly and parallel real world issues that hide in plain sight, but it perverts something we want to hold as innocent and happy, turning a goofy silly Halloween episode into a nightmare worse than most horror films. The taboo of child victims- This one should be obvious but so few movies truly have children come under any real threat, for a great number of reasons. There is in general a cultural taboo about depicting violence of any kind involving children, so having this video so graphically, slowly, and mercilessly lay it out is incredibly disturbing. What especially makes it work is that despite the oddness of the characters, potential connections to the Walten Files at large, and the unexplained elements, the basic premise is horrifyingly realistic. Not a single thing in the video is beyond the realm of possibility, and for anyone who was warned about strangers as a kid, has kids, or in general wants to protect the innocent, the moment they see the house you know what is going to happen and it terrifies you. Still, throughout the episode you hold onto this hope and idea of “This is terrifying but surely they’ll get out fine. It’ll be a fake out, or maybe they’ll get attacked but escape.” That idea then turns to “Maybe Tammy will escape, there’s no way he’d kill then both.” and finally to the deep pit feeling in your stomach as you realize that these two innocent characters, ones you thought were incapable of being harmed due to how media typically writes children characters, have undergone truly horrible fates and will receive no justice. It is masterful, and genuinely left me shaken for days after I watched it. Sorry for leaving such a long reply but I felt like I had to break down some of the things I enjoyed about the video. I love your videos by the way and I’m excited to see more! Love your new avatar too!

Watching Pastra's vid was the first time i saw TMH, I thought it was just gonna be a classic children's kidnapping, the concept didn't rlly scare me. But as the video progresses, I got way too attached with these kids just from the voice acting. Martin does a great job in giving Tammy and Ducky a very disney-ish feel to them, they cud have a whole series centered around their fun adventures. Also, usually the children in horror stories realize too late that something is clearly wrong or they are in danger. Tammy and Ducky proposed to leave as its getting late already, and when the Pumpkin Rabbit starts talking, they are aware of the disturbing demeanor that he gives off too. They're also not just blindly agreeing to stay. Pumpkin Rabbit was subtly assertive in his tone, it almost felt like he was holding these kids at gunshot, to stay the night at the house. At that point, I had this depressing feeling that they're not gonna safely make it out of this house. I was horrified for myself and these kids that my hunch turned out right..

My absolute favourite goddamn thing about Pumpkin Rabbit, is the slow burn as you see him walk behind Tammy, slowly creeping into the foreground and eventually locking her in the room with the corpses It's the same level of horror as the original Halloween, and I say that specifically because Michael in the original Halloween is utilized as a background detail very well. From scenes where his mask is just off center of the camera shot, lurking in the shadows, to the quintessential moment of him almost robotically getting up and looking at Laurie who's the focal point of the shot, and by extension looking directly at the audience. Pumpkin Rabbit captures all of that terror in just a few minutes of screentime, and I love it

I like your part about them appearing deformed or robotic, that's what makes the house a perfect hiding place for them, but also, a perfect trap. Anyone with with common sense could see that the mysterious house was abandoned, and that nobody should go near it for a reason, except for the vulnerable. The children. It's brought with a bit more fear, as around the times the murders of the children happened, people were often more trusting towards their neighbors, phones and computers were scarce, or didn't exist, so talking face to face was the only way to make connections. Adults likely didn't think of the abandoned house as a threat, because they thought they knew that nobody lived there, but their children didn't. I'm intrigigued about how the children didn't decompose greatly though, considering how long it had been going on. Perhaps that's something The Pumpkin Rabbit did to them aswell. Ensuring they couldn't rot, so that their human forms were forced to watch the same thing that happened to them, happen to others until their bones were gone. The worst part is, they don't even seem to do anything with the children. Which is arguable for some. But they kill them, for fun. they keep their bodies there, then send out missing posters for them. Its nothing but a game, and a damn good warning, to never talk to strangers.
@kiera63262 жыл бұрын
Well if you think about the Walten files, some of them have been dead eight years and they have decomposed, but not to the extent they should have for some reason. I think it’s the same here. They _have_ decomposed (which is part of why they look so horribly mangled), though not to the extent they should have. Maybe the souls have something to do with it. And that makes it worse, cuz it implies the souls of the children are still there and trapped, watching

The thing about the scene, where Ducky leaves the room and then calls for temmy, is that voice. When I noticed that it's the exat same recording of his voice, gave me the chills. After that point, I knew that something happened to him. Before that, I thought he would have found something concerning and called for Temmy in order to show it to her and then leave the house together, but nope... that's not what had happened.

Like, it's so sad and unsettling seeing them allve through the whole episode, and then just seeing them like that─dead and lifeless, staring at nothing. Really shocked me. I also like the vibes the video gives off─it's made to look like an old cartoon, similar to ones like "Franklin, Pippi Longstocking, and the early days of Arthur, to name a few. Mysterious House isn't bound by TWF canon. So it just goes all out with the disturbing and unsettling imagery and sound design. From the moment the video starts, to especially the third act. I agree that the scariest thing about the Pumpkin Rabbit is what it makes you think about. When I first heard about it, my brain put me in Tammy's shoes, an innocent little child staring at the mutilated corpses of children, and that didn't just scare me, it disturbed me deeply. And just the way everything is so childlike (like Pastra said in the video) makes you imagine what is actually happening. You imagine the Rabbit speaking to the kids, you imagine it mutilating them, and you imagine it removing its face in painful, realistic detail.
