Great timing to do some more MMA reactions. The UK just got it’s second ever UFC World Champion. Leon Edwards. Knocked out Kamaru Usman this past weekend, who many were calling the greatest welterweight of all time. Losing the fight and lands a perfect head kick with a minute left

I remember when Askren got knocked out. I was coaching football at the time, and some of our players were wrestlers who attended camps that were led by Ben Askren himself. On the bus ride home from a game there were guys in the back watching the PPV on their phones, and when the knockout happened there was a chorus of loud mixed reactions. One of the other coaches told them to shut up because he wanted to see the fight when he got home lol.

Kicks have to be one of the scariest things to encounter. They can be ridiculously strong and only someone that has some type of training would throw a kick in a fight. The average person would never expect a kick and either get their ribs broken or head taken off.

I still remember watching #8 live and still to this day, I think that knockout changed Uriah Hall forever. He realized that he could easily kill someone in an instant and it removed a sort of killer instinct it had inside of him. He was still a good fighter but something was just missing and it wasn't skill or health problems.

@@PMC_Wanker_Group Other than his KO of Adam Cella, the Gegard KO is the only other real notable performance during his UFC run. And to point out he KO'd an old Anderson Silva is just embarrassing for your argument. Hall had some good fights and yes he still got wins but he wasn't pulling the trigger as much anymore, he was very hesitant and would not throw hands. This is coming from someone who was a fan of Hall his whole career.

The crucifix position is incredibly dominant in mma, which is part of the reason you don't see it often anymore as any fighter with an ounce of common sense will have learned some escape from it and to avoid falling into it.

When I played football I used to hit guys with my elbow a lot . You don't risk breaking your fingers or hand ,and if you know how to use your whole body to deliver an elbow you can knock out a guy by hitting him in the helmet .

You know what the interesting thing is? MMA is SAFER than Boxing exactly because it's brutal. Because you don't have huge gloves and restrictions - the knock outs come fast after a heavy hit, saving the person from accumulating more trauma. In Boxing people are let to get up and continue and they accumulate more and more trauma, which leads to far reaching consequences for their health.

There have been many examples where the opponent has gotten up because the fighter wall off or allowed it and the fighter who got knocked down came back and made it a tuff fight or even go on to win. Hell a draw just happen due to this in the last ufc card. Go until the ref stops you is a rule due to this. It's better than boxing because a few extra shots for assurance is better than get stood up and given a chance to recover just to get your head beat in for longer.

Thats the ref's job. Watch Cheik Kongo vs Pat Barry or Oliveira vs Chandler to see why you have to finish the job. Its much more brutal to see but from a brain damage point of view its far more barbaric for boxers to get knocked down/out, be given a 10 count, then have them stand up and duke it out again.

Of course the crucifix is legal, nothing about it meets the criteria of illegal strikes/holds. people are just so good now they dont get caught in it. And you can tap out to anything, the ref is there to see you. You can even tap out to strikes (gsp vs sera 1) or just quit if you dont feel like tsking the damage (diaz vs lawler 2)
