Jimmy doesn't murder Maya at all (even in the save friends level) cause he holds his Hugo Punch personality to do so. After we're knocked out by him and wake up, we can hear him crying in the background and shouting: "Why are you doing this?!". And in the end, when we discover where Hugo Hall's body went to, he appears and says to us he doesn't want us to leave at all. Considering that he was reported for "roping one of the female guests", you can imagine which things he ACTUALLY wanted to do with Maya, and it's even scarier than death.

@@peachesandcream22 Yeah definitely, it’s amazing how this game goes a bit deeper with its theme, the fact that they don’t downright kill you, like your typical horror games do (not to say its remotely bad to make your horror game be like that), It gives more depth to who your dealing with. I also consider it a very unique attribute about this game. (also quick verification, by the time i wrote my reply i was still watching the entirety of the video, just to clarify that so you know at the time i wasnt fully speculating too much but either way, I like the way you describe the themes of the game)

Read an online guide. One of the survival techniques is to never turn around, always go forward unless you literally cannot get to your destination any other way (such as on floor three), or unless moving forward 1 more spot would bring you to Jimmy's current position. Remember, outside of bedroom Jimmy can only bonk you as a jump-scare. Even if he's literally right behind you, he will only bonk you if you turn around (though he might force you around if you stand still). Aside from getting bonked while hiding in a bathroom or wardrobe, he will only bonk you if you come to his position AND are facing in his direction. This also means that if you see him poke his head out ahead of you, as long as you have at least 1 forward movement you can make before reaching his position, he still can't hit you and you're safe to move forward one more time. This is particularly useful knowledge for the elevators, because if you see him poke his head out at the other end of the elevator room, as long as you just turn to the elevators and press the call button and do not turn back to the side, Jimmy won't bonk, though you will get the minor scare of him watching the elevator door close. This also works for the stairs, which shouldn't be neglected. Stair keys can be a useful secondary tool to give you a second escape route from a floor. Note that while Jimmy can't hide in the stairs nor enter them while Maya is inside of them, he CAN hide just outside of them and see you coming up the stairs.
@skarloeythomas5172
@skarloeythomas5172 Жыл бұрын
He never even used the stairs in this video. Interesting that different strategies can be used for its most difficult mode and there isn't a meta.
@indigothecat
@indigothecat Жыл бұрын
@@skarloeythomas5172 Just watched a few more videos, and as it turns out, when you are in the hallway and Jimmy knows where you are, if there is a way he can circle around to get to you, he has a chance to do this instead, otherwise he will just wait for you to come to him. If you are at a dead end, this is literally all Jimmy can do. You can stare straight in the direction he's trying to come from and that will lock him in place. Your only option at this point is to hide in a room to evade him. The reason why repeatedly turning and spinning around is so dangerous If Jimmy has seen you, every time you change which direction you look, Jimmy takes a movement opportunity to come one space closer to you. If he was only one space away, you will get bonked unless you only turned around once and immediately started running the opposite way. To note, Jimmy is slower than Maya, so she will always be able to out-run him, even when it says, "Jimmy can be heard moving quickly." Typically when Jimmy is moving quickly, it's because he knows where Maya is and is trying to circle around to get to her rather than waiting in place.
@skarloeythomas5172
@skarloeythomas5172 Жыл бұрын
@@indigothecat Yes I realise this too. I’ve seen the guy on KZbin testing interactions, like locking Jimmy in place. If he apparently circled around, like on the second floor, he should make a squeak or shuffle to signify his moving into your kill radius, and then he forces the camera to confront him. That’s how the game works, it’s like chess, and Maya is the superior piece. Jimmy seems to recoil or withdraw around a corner at a two or three move distance, and now Maya is in his line of sight and not safe (red bars). But Maya can move toward him up to a one-move distance, since Jimmy does not attack if he does not occupy the same position as Maya, either by stepping into him, or his delayed forced confrontation. Jimmy’s jump scares in the one-move radius seem to only ever be shadows from around the corner, and not his person. Sometimes there aren’t any jump scares, and he is simply hiding in the corner, and I fail to see how Jimmy can be detected when this happens, as he does not peek at a one-move distance. His cue for being in a zero-move radius is the leather twist, shuffle or fabric scrunch noise, and Maya needs to not face him directly but move out of that radius to prevent the delayed confrontation from occurring. So Maya is a bishop and can escape rapidly from the single move Jimmy, but he’s not that slow or stupid. He still has a good idea of the room to scrutinise, as in chasing Maya he is reestablishing lines of sight within the two to three move radius of corner peeking, allowing him to often see the room Maya escaped into, unless Maya really got far away and the environment was too confining. Then, the sequence will play of Jimmy walking briskly past the spyglass, or slowly if Maya evaded him so well his threat level was completely minimised and his regular roaming behaviour returned.

So Harvey's story and Dr Bose's overlap, meaning that Jimmy was still pretty young. To my knowledge of the game, the reason for the screams, is because Jimmy was in the shortest route to the elevator for your friend. It's not him actually killing them, but he knows where they have come from, and heads towards you. It's as simple as that. Avoid letting Jimmy see them, and use the stairs to avoid Jimmy changing floors, and you have a hell of an easy time.

For the friends screaming after you send them out, I heard that them screaming is actually to tell you how far away or how close Jimmy is to the room, not if Jimmy catches/kills them. It explains the VERY delayed scream at 1:50:00 and the IMMEDIATE scream at 1:49:02. At this point of the game, he's extremely focused on Maya and is only gunning for her so her friends escape safely, from what I heard.

Remember how SB originally removed all save terminals post 6AM? They did that to make getting the true ending (Afton ending) a test of the player’s skill and having them use what they learned to win without dying. At Dead of Night does this so much better and is so much more satisfying to beat, while also not being so crazy long like in SB.
@25thVictor
@25thVictor Жыл бұрын
to be fair it was thematically a cool choice to disable saving after 6am because it's an inverse of what usually happens in fnaf. Once that bell chimes youre saved, but in SB youre absolutely fucked yet it too still manages to be the beginning of tomorrow as it's when you go to escape. Ofc they fucked it up in actual practice, but again it's very cool on paper.

I originally thought this games gimmick would get old really quick, and the live action would look cheap but DAMN! This is actually really scary, and looks super smooth...the live action makes it look very theatric and vintage. so I am SUPER glad this game hadn't come out yet when I traveled to the UK several years ago, because the hotel in this game bears an odd resemblance to the one I stayed in whilst in London (and kind of reminds me of the one I stayed at in Dublin) both those hotels had this feeling of "this building was meant to be something else and it was converted into a hotel" and though the buildings were very atmospheric and definitely full of history, they also had a vibe of "murderers could be around any corner you turn" and made me just as uncomfortable as this one does

I will live, breathe, and die for this video. This is my favorite video of all time. I never understood the concept of comfort videos until I watched this video. I will never, ever insult anyone again because this video has taught me kindness. I will never, ever be in a state of anger, sadness, or negativity ever again, now that this video has entered my life. Astralspiff has been a frequent banger creator over the past year and a half, but I believe this is his second-best work yet. In all honesty, I think this video could solve many, if not all, the issues in this world. I've been tearing up for the last 8 days since this video released, and I've only watched it once. But every time I close my eyes, I see funny Canadian guy in the top-left corner reacting to incidents in this game. Personally, I'm not a big fan of horror, but my gully gosh does this fuckin' guy make it entertaining. I'm not exactly sure how I've made it through life without this video. I'm in awe of its pure mastery of the KZbin craft. This video has become my sanctuary, a source of solace and joy in a chaotic world. Its captivating content has the power to transport me to another realm. In a world often marred by division and strife, this video serves as a gentle reminder of the power of laughter and unity. It transcends cultural boundaries and brings people together, fostering a sense of camaraderie and shared enjoyment.

What makes it scarier for me is I've stayed in B&B's like this lol Spooky ones too, from small narrow hallwayed B&B's with only the sound of rain for company to large victorian-esque incredibly old fashioned B&B's where every corner is incredibly dark and there's only field surrounding it, I love the aethstetic of this game.

I’ve never been prone to jumpscares, especially not in KZbin videos. But this game is so well made that it made me throw off my headphones out of fear so many times, and I don’t think I’ve seen Spigg jump that many times playing a horror game before. The atmosphere of the hotel, the narrow halls and blind spots, every corner could lead to your demise. It does an amazing job at keeping you on edge throughout the entire experience, I wish I was brave enough to play it myself ^^’

I remember falling in love with his videos when I came across them back in ye olde Harshly Critical days because he was honest and offered actual feedback in a time when a lot of youtubers were overdoing the jumpscare reactions (glad that trend seems to have died down now though)!

To me this game has the perfect horror setting because it's a weirdly laid out hotel like a lot of British Victorian hotels are and it has wallpaper and carpet and wood panelling from the 70s and details like real fire hazard signs that make it feel like somewhere I've been to before and it's like the Shining with the psychopath and the ballroom. I think the Sea View Hotel is based on the Grand Hotel in Scarborough North Yorkshire because it's where jimmy is from and I'm pretty sure the inside of it looks like that

It so easily could have fallen into the typical “secret evil personality” trope that has done so much harm to those with DID but they didn’t and actively steer you away from any doubts it could be. I love that, it shows you can have a terrifying villain who appears one way and is actually another without making harmful tropes out of real disorders.

Hearing about horrible things - in regards to the glass thing - has more of an effect because your mind then turns to 'what would that feel like if it happened to me' and goes down the path of ramifications of that happening. If you see it happening to someone else in the game or movie or whatever, your mind then equates it to them - still horrible, but no longer are you imagining yourself going through it.

12:40 the edited videos are so good because they point out things I didn't realise before, like the creepy music then jimmy coming in, because I thought it was a little weird that he just came in and you didn't even see him around the corner, as there didn't seem to be much indication to move. I have watched the vod at dead of night trilogy three times and I still didn't realise there was music indicating jimmys presence.

I absolutely adore this game. The concept of needing to lose your pursuer by using hotel rooms is already really cool and the game uses this to its advantage so well. The spyglass, the deadlocks, the tight hallways... even just the gameplay style of point and click works super well to adding tension to every movement Very glad that I can sit down and watch it for 2 hours straight
