The 2013/14 ashes series broke the whole England team apart.. 1) Trott took himself out of the squad due to stress related issues. 2) KP was kicked out of the team after that series although he was the leading run scorer for England in that series. 3) Matt prior retired. 4) Graeme Swann retired. 5) Ian Bell's form was gone after that. 6) And the most important player in that team, a true gentleman of cricket, Alastair Cook was never the same after that 5-0 defeat.. The player who used to score runs for fun in test cricket.. Everyone knows what happened after that.. If anyone asks the definition of terror in Cricket one can surely say the name of Mitchell Johnson of 2013/14 ashes.

Actually no, because they're both right-arm bowlers. Mitchell Johnson was hard to face because he was left-arm and rapid. You don't face high quality left arm pace until you get to first class cricket or test matches, so batters aren't used to it. It comes at you from an angle you don't have much experience with.

Not many remember but after this series Australia toured SA in some time, and Johnson destroyed SA as well, was I think again MoS, broke even Greame Smiths arm. He was not a one series wonder. He started very nicely I think took lot of wickets against India in odi series all top order batsmen.. then couldn't do much as promised. Then again returned as a king.

make no mistake about it. Mitch Johnson is one of the most competitive and fearsome fast bowlers of any generation. He was naturally quick and at his peak and at top form he can knock over any batting line up. His ashes domination of 2013/2014 was one of the best fast bowling feats i have ever seen. Those POMS were running scared of the Mitch. As a west indian i totally enjoyed that series.

If you bowl 140 these days you are considered quick. How lucky players today are not to have to face Mitch, Lee, Shoaib, Tait, Thommo, Lillee, Holding, Marshall, Waqar, Wasim, Roberts, Donald, Stein...etc etc etc. There is a real lack of genuine fast bowlers these days and that coupled with the bigger bats, smaller outfields, vastly improved protective equipment, rules favouring batsmen, absolute roads for pitches...it is no wonder guys consistently average well over 40 or even 50 these days. I have far more respect for guys like Border, G Chappell, Gavaskar, V Richards, Miandad etc averaging over 50 in test cricket, than those playing under today's conditions, against today's bowlers. Techniques are definitely worse with the advent of 20/20 cricket and the only major improvement in standards is the fielding. This is why it is impossible to compare eras. A 50 average today could be worth around a 40 average, 30-40 years ago...

@@b.devendrakumar2360 first of all Mr. keyboard warrior, I don't see a reason you'd call me dumb. Second, Professional Experienced Game Analysts Gave Verdict That They Indeed Deliberately Lost To England. Third, England Was Only Tough On Paper Seeing As They Lost To Australia, Pakistan And Srilanka, on terms of stats South Africa should've qualified but they didn't, so your argument is invalid and hence discredited.
