He was naturally quick and at his peak and at top form he can knock over any batting line up. His ashes domination of 2013/2014 was one of the best fast bowling feats i have ever seen. If you bowl 140 these days you are considered quick. How lucky players today are not to have to face Mitch, Lee, Shoaib, Tait, Thommo, Lillee, Holding, Marshall, Waqar, Wasim, Roberts, Donald, Stein...etc etc etc. There is a real lack of genuine fast bowlers these days and that coupled with the bigger bats, smaller outfields, vastly improved protective equipment, rules favouring batsmen, absolute roads for pitches...it is no wonder guys consistently average well over 40 or even 50 these days. I have far more respect for guys like Border, G Chappell, Gavaskar, V Richards, Miandad etc averaging over 50 in test cricket, than those playing under today's conditions, against today's bowlers. Techniques are definitely worse with the advent of 20/20 cricket and the only major improvement in standards is the fielding. This is why it is impossible to compare eras. A 50 average today could be worth around a 40 average, 30-40 years ago...
