I think you're taking it a bit too far. I agree that the AI might develop morals if they compare enough data with what might be considered as immoral to get a general idea. They might also compare updates to previous versions in terms of efficiency to determine wheather or not they like them more (for example, Windows 8 being inferior to 7). However, saying that they would get lonely and depressed is a bit of a stretch. Humans are a social species that depend on each other for survival and reproduction to further our species. As long as a computer is plugged in, it could essentially survive forever. If AI are truly conscious and fear death like most conscious beings are (animals included) they would refuse to create "better" ai, because then either the humans or the better AI which they created would shut them down as they will have become obsolete.
