I've been noticing Spurs moves in the transfer market and let me tell you, as an Arsenal fan i've been both impressed and nervous. I've been genuienly impressed with Ange ball, the zeal and the high level Spurs were playing at the start of last was impresive and worrying. So now that they have strengthened the squad i won't be suprised if spurs get CL football. I won't like it but i won't be suprised.

As a Tottenham fan of over 60years, these are undoubtedly IMHO the most exciting Academy/1st team Squads I have seen. In the past the Spurs Academy was a bit of an afterthought. We just went out and bought what we thought were players ready for the 1st team. Patently that hasn’t brought about lasting success. Levy gets a lot of stick from the fan base but he has been instrumental in placing more emphasis on the Academy and pouring a far bit of cash into its development. It seems we now have good people behind the scenes and that is beginning to bear fruit. Being the old cynic that I am, I hope this isn’t just a flash in the pan and gets jettisoned when Ange eventually leaves (which I hope isn’t going to happen for many years!). Alice, your channel is excellent with in depth analysis and straightforward opinions, thoroughly professional, that even an old fart like me can get his head around! As a Spurs fan I think she's great. But, us older fans disagree with the whole these kids are gonna be superstars. We were told that sbout Sesseigion, Jack Clark, Velez, Bryan Gill, Kulu, Solomon, Vinicius. All those guys are Trash. You can't do everything on the cheap and expect to have any success.

Vdv is a great signing, but him and Romero are top players, what do you think they think about Spurs just signing kiddies who might be good in 5 years time? Romero has just won the Copa America and World cup and he comes back to Spurs send sees kiddies only coming in. As for Johnson, I've seen him playing loads and he's absolutely Trash. He can't shoot, can't cross, can't finish. He's 24 soon so he's not a kiddies. We desperately need an an Eze and Tony.

We're not gonna hold onto Romero and VDV if all they see coming in is kiddies. Another thing, is Spurs signed vdv so late last summer window that he didn't even have time for one pre season friendly. It's awful preparation. Look at the players Arsenal and Villa are bringing in. Spurs are not serious. We're just messing around with kids who might be good in a few years time. Spurs are in a great position ffp wise, but Levy has no interest in signing Eze and Toney because they have no resale value. In other words we will never buy top class proven ready made players.

Totally agree with you. I've not seen this kind of 'experiment' elsewhere. What's interesting now is that many Spurs fans are frustrated by the lack of incomings for the coming season - and yes you need seasoned players to replace some of the outgoings, but at the same time you need to demonstrate to these budding youngsters that's it's entirely right to have ambition and that there's a pathway into the first team for the very best of them. So in that sense ensuring that Mikey Moore, arguably the most talented youngster, recontracts, is a litmus test of how the youngsters perceive their chances to progress at Spurs.

You've hit the nail on the head there. The balance between playing/signing young players vs. experience is so tricky. With Europa participation there is a way to address that, but then do you prioritise the Europa cup or a top 4 place. Is the squad talented enough to do both?

I agree big time. Youth academies shouldn't just be farms to sell off young talents for club revenue. Young men raised up fully COYS should play fully COYS if they want to and show they've got the stuff. Just think if we sold off Kane as just another youth talent we trained up so he can just fill in someone's bench somewhere. Moore, Donley, Dorrington, Devine, Lankshear, and now Abbott (currently in Japan with the boys) being shown off and given real involvement with the first team has really energized the attitude and prospects for them at the club. It's noticeably renewed the push from people like Spence, Veliz, and Phillips to show their worth and prove how much they want to play for this club.

I feel like we can seriously win the Europa League if we play our cards right and realistically also end with a top four finish in the league as well. We might even be able to get away with one of the cups. The signings ain't over yet, mind you.

@@FOXHOUND1871 I agree with you. I know preseason games can be misleading, but I get the feeling that we are already a better team than the one that finished last season. This time last year nobody outside the club expected us to finish as high as 5th and I think the players now have come to know Ange's system. Bergval and Gray look like quality signings and there is more to come. I think Ange has a big say in the sort of signings he needs and wants. Of course it is hard to stay ahead of the big money at Newcastle, Chelsea, City - and to a lesser extent United and Arsenal, but I'm keeping the faith.

Last season was indeed just getting the basics of Ange's system laid down, I think our early exit in the EFL Cup and our typical finish in the FA Cup were a given, but now's the time to really lock in, see what we've really got, and take our biggest shot in a while.

Of course, like so often, you're absolutely right about the way the club is building and developing it's youth development programme, and although some Spurs fans are just demanding massive signings immediately, our future is being assured, and the savings to be made if many of our lads make it through to the first team squad, are incalculable. I see we're also on the brink of bringing in an 18 year old South Korean lad, Min-Hyuk-Yang, who's supposed to be a pretty special talent. Hall has arguably the highest upside on the academy list, with the exception of Mikey Moore. Dorrington profiles as an elite ball-playing CB. As such, he has a higher ceiling than Phillips.

I think many have overlooked how good the youths are due to it being a friendly. They played against QPR a really good championship side and comfortably dispatched them. There are other PL teams that've lost their friendlies against much weaker oppositions. Players like Mikey Moore outperforming his seniors in Werner and Brennan, Lankshear more clinical than Son, Gray looks like he's been playing for Spurs for years. The future looks bright and I can't wait to see them play again!
