Tbh, I never let it get to much out of hand. Never had cockroaches or anything. HOWEVER, once I moved out aged 19 I just had this one bedsheet. It had a pattern printed on, so you didn't see it get dirty. Long story short. After 2 years of not changing I got these white spots on my skin, breast and shoulders, I think. First it was hardly noticeable, and I didn't mind it. By then I had moved and started to change bedsheets but the spots wouldn't disappear. After about of 6 months of living with that (no symptoms at all, except for the discoloration) I went to holidays - 6 months in Asia. In India I met this Brit who reported to once have had the same symptoms. He told me that he was at a doctor who identified the spots as a fungal infection, but that the crème from the doctor didn't help for whatever reason. Now I knew what was going on. I remembered that bedsheet and shivered in disgust. I then bought a compendium of Indian medicines, found a systemic antifungal tablet and bought one. Problem solved. It actually only took a single tablet for the disease to go away. Now I have white bedsheets and they are never dirty anymore.... 😂

In the US we have comforters and you can get a duvet but it’s not supper common.

A comforter and a duvet are basically the same thing. A duvet is made with the idea you put a cover on it (preferred by me because it’s easier to wash) while a comforter is kind of all in one. I would say both are equally common imo
