+CJ Dodge Sure. Don't go on other people's channels to try to get viewers. (Its kind of rude.) Just make videos on something not many people do. (So not minecraft) Be unique, and try to add to whatever community is in a certain game. Then you might be able to get someone who's a bit more popular to give you credit for you contributions. That's a much better way to get yourself out there than asking people to check out your videos on someone else's channel. Dear Austin. I have a question for you. Not that you’ll likely see this since this video is nearly 4 years old and you have better thing to do anyway, but after reading like ten comments I decided nobody important has brought it up. First let me qualify my question with an observation I had while upgrading my power armor. When looking through the leg upgrades I noticed one was to add explosive vents to the legs, it increases damage to nearby enemies when falling from great heights and adds an explosion effect when you land. Now I’m no expert on explosions or collisions but when cars hit something at high speeds there doesn’t seem to be a super impactful shockwave that spreads from the impact in a radius. So this got me thinking that the energy from landing isn’t getting absorbed by the armor but dispersed by some magic device in the legs of the armor that takes all that kinetic energy and pushes it out in a explosion thus sparing the poor squishy innards of the individual within the suit and not sparing anybody unfortunate enough to be standing within some radius of said falling individual. Anyway my question is: Is this actually possible. And if so just how much damage should this blast actually be doing to the surrounding areas. It seems like it would be more than the game shows but I’m not informed enough to figured it out myself so if by some miracle of fate you see this, maybe you can. -Sincerely Jarod
@captainxeno82025 жыл бұрын
Not to mention the fact that at no matter what height you fall from or how fast you're falling it still creates the same effect, it would make more sense the lower the elevation the weaker the impact and if you jump off a tall building or something it should do the explosive vent effect. Then again this is the game that has a nuclear explosion in a grenade and some ballistic weapons have a legendary effect that lets them shoot plasma sooo.
@DaisFlaque5 жыл бұрын
The exterior of the suit does not stop the interior (you) from instant deceleration.. even if the suit could disperse its g forces.. it couldn't stop yours.. as you are a separate entity from the suit itself. Simple answer: no. It would not help at all, not in the slightest. Because you are not the suit, you are a squishy sack of meat stopping nearly instantly. Hope this answers it for you. Sincerely Dais F.

Instantaneous G’s can be up to 9 or 11. More than that and it will still cause GLOC. A way the F-16 combats this is by angling the seat, meaning the blood isn’t being pulled away from your head as hard as a normal seat would entail. Actually, when you are moving forwards or backwards, G forces aren’t a problem. It’s when there is potential to pull blood away from the brain, or surge blood into the brain.

There's no excuse for any bit of military hardware that can only last 30 minutes in the field. That's fucking ridiculous, it would never get accepted. @brownking968 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind this is 30 minutes in real world time. If we take the game's time then each minute in our world is an hour in fallout 4. So that means power armor can last 30 hours on a single core, pretty impressive considering that they've been laying around for 210 years.

Ah see, now we know where all that energy from the fusion cores actually goes: It isn't to power the armor, no sir, it is to counter all that kinetic energy caused from impacts/deceleration. How? No clue, but that is certainly where all that energy is going because it certainly is not all getting used to move around. Oh wait! Idea: the suit actually creates some sort of suspension field that actually maintains your internal organs suspension in your cavities by stimulating the fluids and structures in the body that keep your organs where they are supposed to be. Sort of like how you can run an EM field over magnetic objects to make them move (obviously over-simplifying but you get the point). If their scientists could figure out how to make compact FUSION happen and mass-produce said units I am sure they could come up with a way to generate a field that counters the negative effects of deceleration on organic entities with fluid cavities that contain delicate organs. Such a continuous field would of-course require a huge amount of power to maintain thus the reason for a power source capable of powering large building being deleted in mere hours if not minutes of continuous use. Ta-da! Fixed.

Power armor uses, or so I'd imagine, a specialized system that compresses the foot as it strikes the ground, in such a way that the forces are spread in a circle around the armor instead of through it. Couple that with the human inside being suspended in a skeletal frame that isn't actually flush with the armor, instead having pneumatic sensors and an impact-absorbing gel (which actually exists in early forms today) that takes blows and redirects them around the suit, thus allowing minimal force effects to be experienced inside the suit.
@AlphaDingo9908 жыл бұрын

I did the research, And I have determined that the lightest commercially available slug for a 308 winchester (presumably the .308 round used in the Fallout franchise) that I could find reliable data for is 110 grains. That bullet, fired from a 24 inch barrel would generate exactly 3,316.34 Joules of energy at 100 yards. The most common bullet weight for .308 winchester 150 grains, which generates a force of 3,600 Joules. The most that T-51 power Armor can sustain is 2500 Joules, meaning that any one with a decent .308 hunting rifle and some ammunition could easily kill a soldier in power armor in ONE shot to the chest. Eat that, Bethesda! Kind of a fatal flaw, considering that the most common round for sniper rifles and medium machine guns to be chambered is 7.62x51mm NATO, which is the military variant of .308 and those would probably be the best weapons to use against power armour.

I think of it similar to an early tank. Still vulnerable to Something bigger than what others are used to but still a huge threat to anyone who doesn't have the adequate power to take them down. Not to mention it's made harder when you remember that power armor pets you fire a minigun from the hip, if they could even get close enough to the soldiers in power armor then they could probably do something about them, but when you have 5 minigun trained on your position things get much harder

Pneumatic shock absorption. That's the key, as its mention in one of the leg mods. It uses the compression of air at the moment of impact to decelerate your body and suit during the fall. WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY.
@nicolomatias22238 жыл бұрын
You have no idea what you're talking about. How the fuck would you decrease the acceleration of your body? Those pneumatic fucktards are nothing to the forces you would experience during and after your fall. They won't be enough. When you land, almost every single bone in your body would disintegrate, blood vessels would pop, and don't even get me started on the power armor crumbling on top of you.

The Crimson Fucker But even if we have that pneumatic shock absorption, it would still be basically useless
@Hellsong898 жыл бұрын
Distance of those shock absorbers wont be nearly enough to make one god damn difference, if we talk about terminal velocity. Sure it could so something in high of small building, but essentially will still take damage and die. Just fact that your brain is swimming inside of your skull and moment you hit the ground, your brain will be smashed into your skull (brain damage or death), cause that too need to stop from that speed. So yeah... Essentially humans are fragile as fuck and there is currently nothing we can do about that.. possible in the future, but not in our life time we see cyborgs that can withstand such forces with their computer based brains. God damn bethesda.. why you didnt add rockets/jets on the suit to cushion the fall..-.-
@The_Crimson_Fucker8 жыл бұрын
Nicolo Matias 1: Eh...it could be excessively powerful? *shrug* if that's the case then it sure, as fuck, isn't modeled in the game. When I heard "pneumatic shock absorption", I immediately thought of the suit blowing air in to the ground just before it landed - it could create a dense bubble of air, creating a wider window of deceleration. 2: Fallout physics are different. Our laws don't, really, apply in full there(I mean...radiation makes you immortal...or it just turns you in to a centaur).

Everything you do that uses AP also uses up your fusion core. You can fast-travel, run, swim, jump, and fire from the hip forever and never use up your FC. Sprinting, VATS, Jet Pack, Power attacks, and Steady aiming are all going to use that thing up. The more AP you burn, the faster your core goes. I think I held my aim steady for the full AP bar and burned about half of my FC, you can burn a core up in about a minute this way. If you use AP a lot, go for the upgrades that reduce AP cost. Those are the Optimized Bracers and Optimized legs. Double up on both and a Legendary weapon with reduced VATS cost to get the most out of your FC.

+weldonwin The point Austin is making is that the impulse (change in momentum) on the person is too great to survive, as you land in the suit lets say there's about 60cm of travel that occurs as the knees bend and you accelerate from 245mph to 0. The only way to lesson the impulse on the occupant is for the acceleration to occur over a longer period of time and so you'll need more travel length for this to happen. Just like crumple zones in a car allow it to accelerate down to 0 for a longer period of time. It could work if the suit was bigger and there was enough cushioned free space in the suit for the occupant to move in it, like seat belts and airbags act in a car. But hey it's a video game, we play it, it;s fun :P

What if in this case the power armor is the wall and the ground is the car? power armor is clearly harder than dirt, and that would explain the damage dealing, ground shaking, shockwave that the suit sends out. that would also explain why humans in power armor are able to survive any fall.
@falcon-eu1wu8 жыл бұрын
THAT is the stupidest thing ive ever heard yes the entire earth moves out of the way when you hit the ground also even if it did give way somewhat the ammount of force would still be enough to crush a tank into a tiny little cube
@clericofchaos18 жыл бұрын
falcon 1452 lol well not the entire earth but you clearly displace SOME earth. at that point all you really have to do is figure how much packed dirt it takes to stop the falling power armor and compare that to the amount of earth sent flying or to the size of the shockwave...or both. i'm not claiming to have a doctorate in physics, I just thought of something that seems like it makes sense.
@EvLSpectre8 жыл бұрын
The dirt barely crushes and the shockwave is just the afterthought of that. Being that the ground does not NOTICEABLY compact and create a large crater, it can also be deduced that the amount of earth material moved has been minimal, making that argument null. Now, it can be argued that the material is just not modeled being moved, as that would necessitate a rather large amount of CPU/GPU power to calculate that with the variables in material, and speed. If it was however, the amount of material needed to be moved would be extraordinary large.
@clericofchaos18 жыл бұрын
***** eh plausible is enough for me. all i'm saying is the suits are near invulnerable. the lore even says you can survive a direct nuclear blast if you're wearing one.
@EvLSpectre8 жыл бұрын
+clericofchaos1 Doesn't change the fact that the amount of deceleration is so great that you wouldn't survive. yes the suit is taking the main force of impact but your organs are not being supported enough. The amount of G straight down and back up through your body would be enough the burst them. Seen similar results in car and motorcycle accidents at much slower speeds then the speed you could achieve in the power armor.

the one thing that power armor cant stop is fall damage from landing on water, i died from that in X-01 power armor because i decided to test out what would happen and it was death

It's not the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop. Except in halo.

I think its being said many times in the game that power amor has a hydrolics shock absorption system , if it is not said many times ( can't remember ) It is surely in the terminal in the little room at the Mass fusion building . You know , the room from wich you get the freefall leggings , wich also feature a hydrolic shock absorption system btw
@METROIDER1238 жыл бұрын
To make more sense , There is space between the bottom of your boots and your feet wheen you're inside the armor , the hydrolic system is there and works like a car crash f.e. . moves a bit , and absorbs the force of the impact
@Azumazini8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that system isn't stopping your brain from impacting into the front section of your skull due to Newton's First law of Inertia. Basically, your brain would turn into mush on impact at that speed into your skull killing you due to speed in which the armor is de-accelerating. Basically, unless that suit has some kind of Star Trek inertial dampeners, you're fucked when you hit the ground at that speed.
@jebus726cristo68 жыл бұрын
+Azumazi Faiz to be fair the basis of this entire video is that you can survive fall from the moon. the games mechanic is flawed and allows you to fall from infinite height, power armor would at most only add 50-75% extra distance you could fall and survive. i dont know why they made it this way, but that's how it is. i also dont know why people think the game even implies infinite height survival, its just the mechanic they made.

"Average human is six feet tall in power armor" Nope. Power armor in Fallout universe is not a relatively body-fitting Iron Man suit or Halo's Mjolnir; it has more in common with WH40K's or Starcraft's space marine suits, and adds up to 50 cm to the user's height (Unless you're playing Fallout 3 or New Vegas, where it was trimmed to regular armor size courtesy of the developers not wanting to bother with a completely separate set of animations). This conveniently means that boots might contain shock springs spanning the entire lower leg, and sufficiently sturdy to greatly reduce the effect of falls on the suit's operator (though obviously not at terminal velocity). Also, powered armor in fiction often has some very form-fitting internal padding and joints automatically locking in case of impact, preventing dislocations and broken bones. Having it survive relatively unscathed by landing from a couple stories is not exactly unbelievable.

also according to brotherhood logs you cant actually survive the fall from mass fusion with base power armor but they probably let the player do so cause gameplay
@GremlinSciences8 жыл бұрын
The logs on the Prydwyn only say that the guy blew out his leg armor by jumping from that height, which is actually also supposed to happen to the player as such is mentioned in one of the loading cards. From this one broken mechanic it can be inferred that power armor frames have some method to direct forces beyond a certain level into the armor, allowing the armor to be sacrificed to preserve the life of the operator.
@king6966618 жыл бұрын
Plus there's the fact that the armor is air tight so it's plausible that it's also pressurized inside the suit when fully equipped (no missing parts) potentially cutting the g-force down considerably on the person inside. It is powered by fusion cores after all which are mini fusion batteries, a Nuclear powered suit of armor.

In defence of that Spartans are genetically engineered to have much more dense, strong bones as well as muscle and ligaments. So calculating that is a testament to how strong they are.

Since you mentioned him: most people do _not_ know that Philip Zimbardo seriously pushed his test subjects in the Stanford experiment to achieve the results he was expecting, making the entire study much more about *obedience* than inherent *cruelty* in humans. For more on that, I recommend the *Milgram* experiment, which tested exactly that - namely unquestioned obedience towards perceived authorities - and was much less presumptuous about it.

Does the armor have certain shock absorbers? Like those you have in your car? Where it compresses the shock caused by the drop? You know ,sorta like a very extreme version of air jordans?

+Cho Tengen Toppa Nep Nep is that like the G felt if someone ,like say jumped off a burning building into a firemen's safety net?
@PataPannu8 жыл бұрын
+Hee Sing Sia When a person jumps into one of those nets, their bodies won't stop immediately, unlike if a person would jump on a concrete floor. Firemen's safety net is made of flexible material which mean that when a person lands on it, they don't just stop falling, their speed of falling is reduced significantly in few second until they come to full stop. That would not be possible in power armor.
