Very cool stuff, well reasoned. Easy to understand. If I'm already at the top of a mountain, does additional intermittent hypoxia training enhance the effects? Did your wife get a stent or angioplasty for her heart attack? She was probably pretty young, because you look pretty young. I would expect that Blood Flow Restriction works under the same principles, by increasing Metabolic Build up including carbon dioxide and latic acid to increase HGH, mitogenesis and angiogenesis.

Well explained Steve! I am doing pranayama IH-Training daily and I have a question: What is the recommended length of the daily hypoxid periods? Is there any danger of overdoing it? What is the maximum length you would recommend? My SpO2 lies between 60 and 89 and I do a total of 7 to 12 minutes of IH per training. Thank you very much for your help!

I’m so sorry I overlooked this comment.!!! Yes you can overdo this. If you are depriving your cells of oxygen too much then this can actually kill cells. The recommended dose is around 11 to 15 minutes daily. So if you’re holding your breath out for two minutes and you do four rounds in a day that should be plenty. Really just five or six minutes a day it’s going to be incredibly beneficial .

Nice job Steve! Thank you. What about when we inhale and hold the breath? What happens when holding in O2 (hyperxia ??)

Sorry I overlooked this comment. So there are a few things that happen when you hold your breath in. One is during the rhythmical breathing phase you’re actually moving cerebral spinal fluid from the cavities of your spine. This is really important for brain health. So when you hold your breath in then you move that cerebral spinal fluid up into your brain from your spinal cavities. This is going to really help with brain health and the activation of dormant parts of your brain. This is also going to stimulate your sympathetic nervous system and gives you a natural shot of adrenaline and release feel good hormones like dopamine and serotonin. But you only need to hold your breath in for 15 to 20 seconds. Too much and you can create headache or fatigue. The deeper benefits are going to come from the exhale hold
