Hi,guys❤ Despite not being as commercially successful as some of his contemporaries, Charles James's influence on fashion design is profound. He inspired future generations of designers to think beyond trends and consider the structural and artistic elements of their work.❤Thanks for watching!Valerie.

When I saw his work at the MET with the 3D animation of the pattern pieces and construction ! I was in fashion school barely trying to cope with patterns of a blazer ! My jaw dropped ! It was like the most complicated mathematical engineering mixed with soft draping

These dresses are works of art. Each of them, such perfection. Amazing that one mind could come up with such designs. Utterly breathtaking. Loved the green dress that would today would be too green. No it’s such green perfection. Also there’s a brown dress that has copper undertone so it’s not brown but brown that’s kissed by angels. Wow just wow.

So interesting to see his structural innovations and such a fresh approach to construction. Maybe we should have more engineers and architects in fashion!

Like most geniuses, he suffered from severe mental problems. He was OCD. He would work on a sleeve for 1 year. He would sell a dress, and then go to the customers home and take it back because he didn't think it was finished. That is what ruined his business.

Thanks for this. Charles James was a genius. I had friends who visited him regularly at the Chelsea Hotel in his last days. The muslin half-dress at 18:05 is incredible, as is the image of Maxime de la Falaise at 9:06. Do you know who the photographer is for the portrait at 16:19?

His dresses look like bondage, as many male designers’ do, and he also didn’t design clothing for real women, only the large percentage of whom had to live on a starvation diet to be able to wear them. If he made art, then they should have been used as museum pieces.
@FashionQuestion3 ай бұрын
I think Charles James, known for his avant-garde and sculptural designs, made a significant impact on high fashion, but his influence extended to real people in nuanced ways. He was a master of craftsmanship, combining architecture with fashion, often emphasizing structured, voluminous forms in his gowns. Although many of his creations were couture and seemed inaccessible to everyday wearers, his design philosophy trickled down into more practical fashion. James elevated the importance of precise tailoring and structure, influencing how even ready-to-wear designers approached garment construction. His work emphasized fit and the silhouette, making structured clothing more appealing and accessible to a broader audience. While his gowns were extravagant, the emphasis on the hourglass silhouette and figure-flattering cuts became a mainstay in women’s fashion, inspiring everyday dresses that enhanced the body in simpler, more wearable versions. Many elements of his designs, such as the dramatic skirts, bias cuts, and intricate seaming, were adapted by other designers for more affordable evening wear. This made glamorous fashion accessible to women outside of the haute couture world. For many, Charles James represented the idea that fashion could be art. This inspired everyday consumers to view clothing as more than just functional pieces but as a way to express individuality, even if on a smaller scale. Though his designs were not meant for the masses, his influence on tailoring, construction, and the artistic vision of clothing certainly impacted how real people viewed and consumed fashion. Thanks for your opinion ❤️

why would women let men dictate fashion, outfits that weigh 10 pounds and don't look good on the majority of women, women are not 6 feet tall weighing 120 lbs

This is a very interesting, complex, and important question, the answer to which, I believe, lies in the study of world history and the process of the formation of gender relations. Thank you for your attention to this issue!
