The quinceañera is a coming of age party that happens when a girl turns 15 in some cultures. I notice that stuff like the quinceañera or bat/bar mizthav or any coming of age party starts 12-15 and that’s because In premodern times you became an adult depending on the country around 12-16 or even as young as 10. In ancient Assyria 12 bc you become an adult at 10. I don’t think those around 10-16 were seen as full adults, but somewhat seen as one. You was either a child or an adult back then.

I do suspect it's more complicated than that, though I do get were you're coming from. It could be the genes for *all types* of cutie mark (rather than just the parent's cutie mark genes) are contained within the body, only for some to be activated by the environment. This would actually explain doppelganger cutie marks, where multiple different ponies have the same cutie mark.

You are awear that genetically speaking, ponies would most likely be as related to each other a we are to each other right? Ponies in one race/area are more likely to have a higher chance of relation than those of a different race/area.

Sorry I just found this video today. One specific part about cutie marks that bother me since the original generation was how clear and crisp the images are. It’s enough to think there is some kind of collective unconscious connecting everyone. Might as well call it magic.

i feel like "cutimarks is like puberty" has always been the biggest and oldest headcanon in the g4 fandom lol. cutiemarks being a genetic thing is pretty logical idea to have ngl so yea!

I think cutie marks are also the end of puberty. When you think about puberty, It's. a time where you try to find yourself amd what you are supposed to do. And the cutie mark symbolises that you alredy found your place in world

Also Wind Striker, I just watched the episode again where Earth Ponies are trying to learn their new Earth Pony Magic and I saw once again the tree that Hitch made with the flowers that Zipp said look familiar-and Sparky’s glowing horns! Maybe it’s a dragon tree and there’s some sort of connection to where he came from!

When Twilight swapped the cutie marks of the main 6, they were compelled to use their talents, but they weren't particularly good at what they were doing. When Starlight Glimmer swapped the princesses cutie marks, it did enable them to use the talents. I see cutie marks as a tool. Lets say you gave the best golf club to a duffer. The amount of increase in their game from a regular club would be small. But in the hands of a pro, that golf club could improve their game significantly vs an ordinary club. Ponies generally get cutie marks in something they are already pretty good at but the cutie mark gives them the perfect tool for the job and they become much better at it. How well a transferred mark would work for a pony would depend upon how useful such a tool would be to someone with limited knowledge of its use. Luna's obviously ENABLES entering dreams. What you do once there is a matter of practice but the mark conveys the base ability. The main 6's cutie marks (other than maybe twilight's which we did not see transferred) are of the golf club type. They hone abilities that if you don't have them, don't help much. (I would figure twilight's would be a bit inbetween -- useless for ponies that didn't have generalized magical training (outside their cutie mark's domain) but at least somewhat useful for those that did).

That is a great comprehensive evaluation. Makes complete sense. Luna and celestia have practice moving celestial objects, which makes switching talents easy, (bar from individual abilities like the dreamwalking) but the other 6 main ponies do COMPLETELY different stuff which makes it all lot harder to do it.

well I believe that most ponies will get cutie marks while being foals and fillies, but there may be adults who haven't got a cutiemark cuz they never found their talent, it may still be biological considering the effects that removing a cutiemark had on starlight's village

I… I’m pretty sure if I hadn’t done a science project on DNA, this all would have gone thru my head at all. And I disagree about the family thing being tied to the cutie mark, to point this out, if that was the case, one of the apple kins (applejack, applebloom, Big Mac) would have ended up with a pear related cutie mark… which they didn’t. Also, let’s not forget pinkie pie. She does not work at all when it comes to this theory.

Hey Striker! So, I have a long list of theories I’ve been planning all week to tell you. So first of all, I did catch the puberty thing, but I don’t think there’s any science involved in cutie marks. It’s all magic. I wondered originally how there was this one pony in the background in the episode where Rarity had to make all the same Twilight dresses who had a cutie mark of herself. I wondered how it was possible, and theorized that there is a special cutie mark realm in which the magic of cutie marks decides a pony’s cutie mark before they get it, like right when they are born, and then waits for the pony to find their purpose to make it appear. Some of my newer theories are: First of all, Sunny originally lived in a lighthouse. But why would they even need a lighthouse if there weren’t other places to shine the light to? This might have been an old way to contact creatures from other places, like the old station, and could be a remnant of Argyle’s historical research past. Second, what makes some dragons have magical fire and some dragons not? In the original generation, most dragons didn’t have magical fire. The only two dragons we know of now who had magical fire were Spike, who could send scrolls with his breath, and Sparky, who can transform things. My theory is that Spike got his magical breath from the way he was hatched, Twilight’s surge of magic that hatched his egg. I also theorize that Sparky has his magic because he is a descendant of Spike, or perhaps all dragons evolved to have magical fire as a magical-balance thing while the ponies lost their magic. My other theory is that the new Make Your Mark Chapter 4 will end in a cliffhanger involving a new species, such as a changeling. It would be so cool to have the other species back, especially a changeling villain. Next, I think that Misty will get her cutie mark after she turns on Opaline, which I’ve heard she will, and finds her purpose with her real friends. Also I hope we get to meet more adult dragons and find Sparky’s family. Finally, speaking of which, Sparky’s egg washed up on the shore from somewhere, cuing that there are other species in other places we don’t know about yet. But couldn’t a Pegasus just fly there? Maybe no one’s dared to yet. Maybe there’s a whole land beyond that still needs magic or has a lot of it due to a magic imbalance, and that’s where Sparky’s family is, and in a future season Hitch will have to decide whether to keep him or let him go. Also, fun fact, speaking of dragons, there happens to actually be a type of dragon from How To Train Your Dragon 2 that is also called a Windstriker! What do you think about all this? I think I just gave you theory videos for the next three months❤

I think youre right, but imo Pinkiepie is adopted because even her colors dont make any sense. If not the colors, I would think cutie marks just arent genetic and families tend to have similar ones because they live in a similar environment.
