Your comments probably tell you everything you need to know -- this video was great. I checked out the rest of your channel and was sad to see it didn't have as much as I'd hoped (I suppose you'll have many more subs by the time you build up a library). Just know that this kind of content and format is a winner

I dont think i saw a single incorrect position or term! I'm a brown belt and train every day as well as compete often. I know some high level black belts too. Point being I know a decent amount at this point in my career and recognize quality when I see it! Extremely well done sir.

Using Mikey musemci ideas for guard has made my life a lot easier. Each limb can either frame or hook someone, in gi you are able to do both at the same time by gripping. Control is when you have sufficient frames and hooks to stop the opponent coming towards you or fleeing. I think airing on the side of caution is the best bet for guard retention.... You can't have too many frames

Absolutely fantastic. Although many of those traditional passes are still dominant. Even GR forces half guard, then chest to chest half guard pass. It's possibly the most energy efficient pass you can do, the problem is getting chest to chest against someone good.

I like the approach. Decided to watch after taking 4 classes. Not yet two weeks into my adventure with this sport. I think I understand it a little better now. My fundamentals are from practice of Tai Chi and I was thinking about how best to apply breathwork, balance, and techniques to divert energy acquired from past experience to this ground-centric movement. This video gave me some ideas. Thanks for the breakdown!

Breathing will serve you well. Breathe, stay calm survive. Only use the energy you have to use. Jui jitsu is basically just the science of efficient movement and energy expenditure. Enjoy the journey!

Why not much from elite guard retainers from lighter weights like musumeci and miyaos? Even Lachlan Giles and his focus on always protecting inside space? e.g. high pummelling over hip escapes.
@RixtyGarami
@RixtyGarami Жыл бұрын
For the purposes of story telling I only wanted a max of 3 athletes being referenced (Marcelo, Gordon, Lachlan). Any more than this and the pacing and length of the video would not have been as ideal. I had a whole section on Roger Gracie that I dropped as I didn't believe it fit well to the themes of the video. Nothing against the Miyaos or Mikey, I just happen to be more familiar with Marcelo, Gordon and Lachlan.

What is missing is the same thing missing from every guard retention video. The actual platform for learning to use this knowledge. We keep gaining more and more knowledge and we are not getting any better at coaching it. So you get a few standouts that Intuit all of this while everyone else gets left behind. There are many many world champions that knew absolutely none of what is in this video. And for every one of them there are thousands who know everything in this video but can't apply any of it. It is a real problem and until that problem is solved this sport will always be a small unprofessional niche. The training methods have to start spreading with the knowledge.
