Awesome video I’ve been producing for 14 years and started to be serious about my music career 6 years ago I’ve had some success but I always wanted to experiment and release different music In 2018 I’ve made a track that was very different out of all tracks I’ve made before but this track had no success until 2021 when it became a Tiktok hit and ended up making me more money in 3 months then I’ve made before in my entire life. I’m saying this to give a real example of why you should never ever give up and try yourself in different genres. Good luck to all of you guys 🙏🏻

I realized all of my best stuff came after days of making mid to decent tracks. It's always that one day where I don't feel like doing anything cuz I've been toiling away the past few days but I force myself to get up and make SOMETHING and wallah, I make something that makes me tear up. Then I take a hiatus for months until it starts all over again 🤣

There are some other points you didn't mention in the clip about the paper, but I think are very important. 1) The topic that you chose just before the start of hot streak had lower probability for becoming the topic for the hot streak. 2) Your most frequently explored topic before the hot streak had also lower probability for becoming the topic for the hot streak 3) The topic which had the greatest impact(which is, how successful it was) in your exploration had also lower probability for becoming the topic for the hot streak 4) The trendiest topic had also lower probability So what kind of topic had the greatest probability for becoming the hot streak? It's in the middle. Among the topics that you've so far explored, the one which had about medium impact, and also the one which was the middle in the popularity among the group, had highest probability for becoming the topic for the hot streak. So don't be trapped to the curse of local optimization. Or, the curse of the best. Lastly, a piece of happy news. More than 90% among the scientists, film makers, and artists in the research, had at least one hot streak in their career. So the chance is you gonna have one hot streak at least!

A real fact about music: a noticeably high number of hit songs were made extremely late in the night. The reason being is that in these moments, you've become so tired that your brain isn't even capable of putting thought into your music. Moral of the story: You make your best music when putting 0 thought into what you do.

The other thing that I've noticed in my life of me making music (I used to just improvise piano solos; now it's all DAW-based electronic) is that it simply takes a certain amount of time to get in the zone where I'm not restricted and the ideas just flow: they cannot be denied. So, to get creative, spend a certain amount of time being boring first.

Interesting topic - I've always wondered why I'm so streaky when it comes to making music. Some of it is just down to work commitments (like most of us, music is a hobby for me), but if I'm in the right mood I'll always find time to make a beat. More recently, I've found that buying a new piece of kit, whether it be a VST or just finding some new samples can often be the trigger for a hot streak. As can watching streams / videos of others making music - Disclosure in particular, who I discovered thanks to this channel. Love your content Sol, keep up the good work!

It's crazy to think about how deep the explore/exploit tradeoff goes. Not only is it applicable to every level of everything, like the restaurant example - What table to sit at? What meal to order? etc. But it's even applicable to itself, like how we're now in exploration in regards to the explore/exploit concept.

I've been playing and making music since I was a little kid. Not because I expect to make money at it, just because I love doing it. That cycle is a key part of my process. I will do months of stuff with new tools, new techniques, new sounds, new styles before start producing results I want. And then, in a few months more, I've created a set of songs I'm happy with - my hot streak.

Hey, not trying to be a jerk, but can you please use more consideration when you use the word "we" especially in the context of saying "we need..."? We each usually only speak for ourselves. It was a totally benign comment, and this response to it is intended to be as well, but a mindset that attempts to speak for "people" (whoever) based on an assumption that you do is something to be mindful of, in my opinion.

U dont have to participate If u dislike it,Like i do too. There is a niche for everything. It maybe wont bei fast success Like U would possibly get by Just following the current Mainstream Formula,but U will be way more Happy as an Artist and that reflects Back to the Fans alot
@killsammusic3 жыл бұрын
that happens because really a few people network while a lot of artists think they have to reinvent the wheel, very few artists actually "make it" by trying to grab attention, and even then is that really "making it"? Lots of fans because you do something cool on tik tok but none works with you and you don't release on big labels, can that really be considered "making it"? how much would that last anyway? once you're not a trend anymore what do you do? going famous too early is dangerous, you stop improving because you think what you're doing is right, in music industry you have to be versatile, have valid music and network. on December it will be 10 years since i started making music, my life is changing right now, 1 year ago i wanted to quit because i didnt make it into edm and so i switched genre, networked A LOT and it worked out, i'm in the best moment of my life because i switched genre, i have agencies trying to sign me and platinum awarded producers asking to collab with me, just because i changed fucking genre and actually hitted people up on instagram, mental
@jaym21123 жыл бұрын
I can understand that. It might help to refocus the goal. If the goal is to stand out and win the popularity contest or win the most attention, even if you do, eventually that will fade away. Perhaps if the goal is to do what is meaningful -- that is, not what makes you happy, but what satisfies because it gives you purpose and meaning every day -- then none of that other stuff matters as much. Honestly, if a market is oversaturated, you are as much of a contributor as the others in the same market. The ones that quit are probably going to be the ones that get frustrated because they can't stand out and aren't loving the work on it's own merits. If you find meaning in the work itself, you will outlast them. Maybe your niche is elsewhere and you'll find it in time, like some of the examples in the video. But if you're going to be miserable unless you reach some unlikely goal... I can relate though... I have some days, weeks, and months where I feel unstoppable or unfazed, and I have some dark days, too. Get your mind refocused and keep at it, man! If it was easy, everyone would be achieving it (and it might no longer be worth doing).

I don't see this like "never give up". Never give up - means Duft Punk should have kept playing rock and DJ Snake produce for Lady Gaga. I doubt they had little income. I think they wanted more fame and that's what was driving them. I believe many artists are shamed of thought that they strive for fame. As soon as they admit this to themselves, things will go better.

This is so helpful for me atm. I've gone from Ska to House to Electro-Punk in one year. I am always told by industry people to stick to one thing but I can't as an artist - exploration is just too fun. I have been super depressed lately even though I love my tunes (as silly or serious as they can be) as nothing ever seems to POP. So yeah, this video came at a good time and shifted my perspective. I will not give up!
