Pride is often misunderstood. Our telling of Pride's history is often missing so much breadth and depth. And though this video isn't comprehensive, it is an invitation to more deeply investigate the origins of Pride - the people, places, and things that were instrumental in the movement leading up to the Stonewall Riots in 1969 and the first march in 1970. It's a reminder that our history is rich and layered. Today, we can celebrate Pride because of all that happened back then - and because of all those that continue to fight for liberation today. This is The Real History of Pride.
This video was produced for The Scope, the world's first fully digital, comprehensive, international, authoritative, and academically rigorous reference resource that will expand as LGBTQ+ stories unfold, laws are challenged, activism is victorious, and more queer and trans people contribute to global culture.
