How about something with a much thicker tape, where you can scrub in 2d, and maybe have an articulated arm with a second reading head that you can leave on different positions? (and maybe even a separate recording head as well)

Have you tried using two tape heads to beat juggle? I think you could do some crazy shit there that would be impossible on turntables.
@jeremyseanbell6 жыл бұрын
Fink Ployd I am working on a two head technique, but man it is tough! It’s going to take some serious coordination, but I think the results could be amazing.

I want to buy this scratchy thingy bro. Where is it for sale and how much?
@BillHustonPodcast6 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeremy, I love your gizmo and performances. Have you thought about making your scrubboard a *controller*? Meaning still use the tape interface, but stripe it with a static digital signal which indicates an absolute position on the tape. Then, write a sampling app in something like Max/MSP or Pure Data to record the audio in real time, or scratch stored samples. It could yield better audio quality, and more flexible. (Although I do admit to liking the grungy quality of scratching analog tape!) The Pd app is trivial. I'd be willing to help. WilliamAHuston at Gmail. Peace ;)

Heh, I just had exactly the same idea :) Vinyl scratching long switched to digital, and yes it does render better quality results overall.

awesome, have you a kickstarter campain or someting? we all want help you and get our scrubboard
@jeremyseanbell6 жыл бұрын
I really hope to launch a Kickstarter soon, but there are still a lot of things to work out first, like who will manufacture it and exactly what it will cost. That's no small task, but I have ben making progress. I'm also considering the possibility of first funding a less expensive feature-reduced version, before funding one like in this video.

Is this version using 1/4 inch tape? (I have LOTS of reels stored..)
@jeremyseanbell6 жыл бұрын
It sure is! The interesting thing is, lately I've actually been using quarter-inch tape that I spooled out of 8-track carts. It actually works better than tape taken from open reels, because the tape in those carts is backed in graphite powder, which helps the tape slip through the mechanisms more easily. I'd been having problems with the motor struggling, and it definitely helps with that. Naturally, I have to blank out the tape first, though, since I'm using 4-track heads.
