They were short because there was limited time on top 40 radio and lots of records to be played. Extended versions of later years were album cuts. It's true that some extended versions were played on the radio like Safety Dance for example. The Wall and Nights Without Satin were better in the 4 minute version. The long versions just included shouting , sound effects and extended instrumental segments.

Unforgettable moments... wonderful times, the sixties and seventies... quality music.. times when everything was much more relaxed. Big contrast to today's society...! "Needles And Pins - release: 1963" and still popular in 2023. The Searchers... pure youth sentiment...!

Totally agree 100%

Relaxed? Pretty music, but I don't see it as relaxed. Vietnam, weekly air raid drills, horrible times right after WWII and Korea...

I still play this one, harmony pedal (no autotune) for the harmonies, sounds nice, still a lovely song, and a great memory from my youth

How I loved the Searchers. Such beautiful music. Such beautiful memories. God rest your soul Chris Curtis (Greta Drummer) and Tony Jackson. (Great Bassist). I miss those days so much.

Mijn moeder draaide in mijn jeugd altijd muziek van Gene Pitney, Roy Orbinson, Julio Iglesias, André Hazes. Gene Pitney heeft vele prachtige nummers gemaakt en gezongen. 24 hours from Tulsa, It hurts to be in love, Something gotta hold of my heart. Thank you for posting this video ❤

No lip syncing in those days...pure live music.....real talent!!

Actually I believe the mamas and the papas, and Gary Lewis and the playboys had to lip sync for the Ed Sullivan show due to the complex nature of the actual recordings of the songs

Chris Curtis had a brother in the merchant navy who used to bring records back from America. This song was written by Sonny Bono and Jack Nietsche.

Saw the Searchers in Glasgow last week, their “Thank You” tour, obviously don’t sound the same, but a wonderful evening of nostalgia for the mostly white haired, some with walkers crowd 😂

Fond memories of them playing at a Sheffield U Students Union dance in 1964 when I was there . Everyone stopped dancing to listen and they sang Needles and Pins 3 times in a row.

@@AaronParasmo This was when the top groups toured and the Students Unions with their facilities and no overheads where the only ones that could afford them My wife when she was 17 at a Saturday night dances at Doncaster Tech twice danced to the Beatles before they became famous , Walking home with her friend their tour mini bus stopped and chatted her up . But she knew their was someone better than Paul and John waiting for her in the future!!

Excellent! They sound great. In addition, that drummer is superb in the way he looks, plays & sings that real high part. His microphone should have been a little louder. lol
