We once imagined that great Jazz was a an animal that lived only in America. Miss Kano's Jazz is the real thing, like a western child raised in Tokyo, it's parentage cannot be denied, but its language is fluently articulate in both worlds. Brava to Miss Kano and the Seatbelts.

Agreed. The magic of Cowboy Bebop's soundtrack is Kanno's ability to grab the vocabulary of dozens of jazz forms/styles/eras and make comprehensive, completely original jazz pieces without a single flop. It's remarkable.

Damn that was super well put! Yes Miss Kano’z jazz is stuff of legends. Her ability to adapt to any kind of style and still be amazing is astonishing. I would die to be at a concert playing some of her music or one with her herself.

Japan is very interesting because since it was under American rule after WWII, they took a LOT of inspiration from American music like rock n roll, jazz etc. honestly one of the few if not only Asian countries where the music is heavily Western

Jazz is not a genre its a form of composition based on improvisation. You can make jazz even if your from Mars. 🕺

theres nothing more enjoyable than watching musicians play and being able to see just how much they love it and just how much the crowd loves to see them loving it. even the shaky camerawork of this video shows how genuinely excited every single person in the room was to hear great music, it would've been a crime to sit still

Not to forget composing entire soundtracks for numerous other anime series and notable opening theme songs. Soundtracking Cowboy Bebop AND both series of Stand Alone Complex and the Solid State Society movie, oh yeah and Jin-Roh oh and composing Video Game soundtracks since 1985 and composing music for 20+ japanese artists and singers and how about the fact that almost every major company in the world has commissioned her to write music for advertising places like Sony, Microsoft, Toyota etc.

She wrote pretty much all of the music before the show was animated.

Yoko Kanno, the composer of the soundtrack of my life: Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Vision of Escaflowne, Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and Solid State Society, and surely i'm forgetting others, an unforgivable mistake. Such an incredible talent and excelent taste in each one of her workks.

+KasaresStern Evangelion was Shiro Sagisu (;P). As for some of Yoko's other great works, I highly recommend the soundtracks for Turn A Gundam and The Other Side of Midnight.
