When I was younger and watching this for my first time on Adult Swim, this song would randomly play in my head. It's strange to say this, but I can remember how this anime used to make me feel while watching it... but I can only remember for brief moments. I can't describe it very well, but this made me feel so different than ANY show or movie EVER has, lol. I can still appreciate this anime nowadays, but I know it used to account for every bit of emotion that I had. I don't know how it did that to me, but I will never feel like that again because I can't even get in the same mind-set that I had back then. It must have had something to do with being younger. I wish I could get all that back. I love you Trigun!

+Jake Beoulve You have just summed up exactly how Trigun makes me feel. No series(so far) has ever made me feel the way Trigun made me feel. The characters, the soundtrack,the setting it all fits together so perfectly. Maybe it is because we were young but I wish that something would come along and make me feel that way again.

a really good anime to watch if you want to be moved or at least it moved me and was terribly memorable was the monogatari series, bakemonogatari, nisemonogatari and all them... theres like 14 different "tales" or whatever but they are all full episodes revolving around a guy who saved a vampire and then became one and there were like cats and this bitch who got her physical density and weight stolen by a crab... you watch it, its got a nice balance of high energy and relaxed cool intelligence

I never realized how really creative this anime is! Like when you think about it, it's a cowboy western style anime set in an extremely distant future on an off-earth planet! The protaganist is a highly-skilled Gunslinger alien humanoid, who's a pacifist?!
@keyman245 Жыл бұрын
That's why I'm kinda botered by the New design, It's way less unique, Vash looks like a generic futuristic and Young gunslinger, the plants looks less "angel" and the Sad part of the history (that was Just revelead way later, giving the goofy vash an New layer) is Just trown out at the First ep, in a atempt to, maybe, make vash look more "deep" from the get go And there's no LOVE AND PEACE!
@pooks_ Жыл бұрын
TLDR; I think Trigun is better thematically and aesthetically mainly for personal preferences but the writing is a little better objectively. And I watched Stampede first, for some context. ⚠MAJOR SPOILER and MASSIVE RAMBLE WARNING for anyone else reading. Like actually I spoil the best parts of both shows, word for word, seriously. I'm BEGGING YOU, don't read it and go watch. I saw Stampede first and loved it, but after watching Trigun I can say I love it more, mostly because of personal preference. I think I can agree that Vash's new design is modernized, they kinda leaned into his soft-boy personality for his design, and I feel like he's a bit less of a goof in Stampede. I personally like how he looks in Trigun because he looks like a badass with his bright-red bullet-holed coat, but he is really just a goof and a softhearted guy. That's really the fun of his character and it just comes off better in Trigun. Writing-wise, I heard that the creators wanted to focus more on sci-fi aspects rather than western. Like some sci-fi writer guy basically wrote a lore-bible that covered the history of the first 150 years on the desert planet, according to the Trash Taste podcast episode about Trigun Stampede (that I didn't finish, fake fan). This is awesome and admirable, but I personally like the rustic worn down western feel of Trigun and how lowkey it is with it's sci-fi. In the first half of trigun, pretty much everyone is chilling doing fun western stuff and you could easily be tricked into thinking this is a western set on earth, only being tipped off to a few things, possibly making you think it's a bit fantasy/sci-fi. In the final half it gets serious both thematically and lore-wise, which I like, whereas in stampede we pretty much know the main conflict and major lore from the start, that the protagonist has a badguy brother and we're not on earth. Anticipation for the lore-drops and character pasts and seeing where characters are aligned with what groups are the parts that make you wanna watch more of Stampede. Thematically, I enjoyed Trigun more. In Stampede, I think the thematic focus was primarily on humanity's survival and the various ways characters and societies attempt to shape the future for humanity. Which is really cool but maybe a bit overused in modern media and a bit impersonal. They also do this in Trigun, but I feel to a lesser degree, so they can also focus on very personal themes of life and death and regret to a greater extent, challenging Vash and Wolfwood's moral compasses and actions, which I LOVE SO MUCH. Going back to the concept of Trigun getting more serious in the final half of the show, there's a scene where Vash is trying to be his go-lucky self and eat some donuts, but he breaks down crying because everyone around him is dying despite trying so hard to do the right thing. That scene is CHILLING. We really feel for Vash there. We honestly never got anything that damn emotional in Stampede (as far as I can remember) which is an actual disappointment. Oh ANOTHER great scene in Trigun. Legato says: "I will haunt Vash for eternity." Then a couple episodes after, Vash confronts Legato. He's already mad as hell and the intent to hurt or kill is vaguely there. Legato can understand why, Legato is a large part of the reason so much death follows Vash. The girls run after Vash, because they're worried they'll never see him again because Vash is at an emotional lowpoint after Wolfwood's death. Legato starts mind-controlling locals to start attacking the girls just a little bit away from Vash and Legato. He then essentially asks for Vash to kill him because in his own words he doesn't deserve to live. Vash says he can't and begs Legato to let the girls go. Legato clearly presents the logic that shooting him in the head would spare the lives of two innocent women. He also clearly presents that ending the suffering through shooting him would end his 100% commitment to passivity and Rem's ideals. Also he literally calls Rem a worthless human being, and says he's also a worthless human being, but that Vash has more worth. Which is the exact opposite of everything Vash believes. This would 'kill' Rem in Vash's mind. In the end he does it, recounting Rem's words that no one has the right to kill another. He loses his innocence. This kind of stuff is amazing, and I love it. I really makes you think about the value of life quite seriously, and makes you consider if sacrifices are necessary or just. FAR better execution than Stampede's humanity is destructive theme imo, because Trigun's humanity is destructive theme is personal, it's something individuals can consider what they'd do in the character's shoes. Stampede just kinda says humanity do be generally quite destructive but there's lots of redeeming qualities. It's less personal, its more big picture, and imo a bit shallow. I think the closest Stampede got to ever was when Vash killed Kni. It seems like it was trying to do the same thing that the Legato kill scene did but it really did not have the same effect because Vash didn't choose to kill him out of his own free will, it was Kni who was committing suicide essentially. I feel like Stampede is a lot more creative with it's sci-fi designs and lore, and I love it's detailed animation to go along with it. The part where Kni attempts to recreate his brother and go to a higher dimension using that huge thorn plant woman is awesome. Kni's powers are so cool in stampede. Also the city-scapes are awesome. I think it's objectively more detailed than Trigun with both scenes and animation. I think I agree about the plants though, them looking like angels in 98 adds a lot of literal meaning to the part where Rem says something along the lines of God sent them, they're a pair of angels. Generally I still aesthetically prefer Trigun. Again, it feels like it was trying to be more western rather than sci-fi. So the old gritty animation style and colors couple well with it. It also couples really well with the lighthearted first half of the show, sometimes I think 2D animation or at least low framerates can't be beat with expressivity. Kni never really fights with any powers which adds to the western feel. Sorta torn about that one. Generally the cool gun action is cooler in Trigun because there isn't much sci-fi stuff overshadowing it. Idk this paragraph is just me repeating that the western fights > sci-fi fights in my mind, probably because I've watched a ton of sci-fi stuff before. Anyway to conclude all this, I think the two shows have two separate visions for the same story. Stampede has it's focus on sci-fi and themes of humanity's survival and humanity's worth on a grand scale. I personally prefer Trigun as it feels lowkey sci-fi and looks at themes of humanity's survival on a much more personal scale. It takes a hard look at 'nessesary' sacrifice vs trying to do the right thing, making you really consider the value of life and the finality of death, and ultimately drives home that the ticket to the future is always blank.
