Great video and crossing this looks rare especially how it has those rare lights. Keep up the great work

Thank you. These lights are quite rare at a level crossing, especially one like this with no barriers.

Great video and crossing! No alarms here?
@UKLCSandT3 жыл бұрын
Nope, this and Foxton Road both have no alarms, there’s also a middle crossing which has no wigwags and just signs.

This crossing hasn't changed in ages. Still with the halogen lights, lol.😂

what AOCL mean? Those level crossing light look so unique!

Automatic Open Crossing Locally monitored as far as I know (meaning no gates, with a member of staff closeby to observe correct operation of the crossing signals ;) There is also a AOCR, which is remotely monitored (that's what the R stands for)

AOCRs don’t really exist anymore except for one in Scotland because of the Great Lockington Rail Disaster

@@UKLCSandT I know, but the abbreviation is still alive ;) It's the same as a Dutch AKI, which is also rather extinct by now, except for yards (where the public can't go) and enthusiasts that collect them. (well, the lights that is... the big background-shield is usually scrapped as it is just too big to keep, the lights itself are already big)

@@weeardguy why AKI no longer used? its not safe?

@@Stvk @Stvk Same problem basically as in the UK: to many collisions with road traffic (read: people not obeying the signals) lead to a removal/conversion program, where the crossings were either removed completely with a tunnel or just nothing in return, or were converted to an AHBC. This program ran from 1985 to 2006, where from 2000 to 2006 this program was sped up and eventually lead to the near-extinction of AKI's. I've got a set of lights from one of those fixtures. The blinking white light (always active when the system was in working order with no train coming) always had something mysterious and eerie about it ;)
