I bought Morph 2 on sale a while back. I may have to dive back into it now. Have you ever played around with the “Argent Compressor”? It’s basically an OTT/Upward Compressor hybrid that really DOOM’s up anything you throw in it.

You almost got it but he did specify that he used the sample from the chainsaw sound effect from the original 1993 doom. (so it was a mix of the idle and the 'fire' sound of the chainsaw) So you probably would've got better results with that since It's a stock sound effect.

Sounds like if you fiddled with it a bit more, you could get it closer, but it's a cool sound nonetheless. I actually forgot one of the other more important things he said during his presentation and that was that he used the chainsaw sounds from the original Doom 1 and 2 games as the chainsaw, so he didn't even use a particularly good-sounding chainsaw sound for the official track. I'm curious to see what results you could come up with using that particular sound.
@Tonepusher Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes you're right I think he used the old game sound. But seeing how he works he probably processed the shit out of that sound before even sending it through Morph! So I figured I would use a modern chainsaw sound hehe ....next in line, the lawnmower haha
@moonbyul873 Жыл бұрын
@@Tonepusher Oh yeah, he used a lawnmower too didn't he? lol I'm incredibly envious at his knowledge and ability to work with sound design. I'm very much cave man brained when it comes to dialing in tone, so I aim for the less is more approach, but it's impossible to get the sound you got in this video and the sound he just gets in general with a more simple approach.
@Tonepusher Жыл бұрын
@@moonbyul873 Yeah, I think after 20 years of producing music, sound design and experimenting. I came to the conclusion that less is more like you said. There IS some people that will put 32 plugins and end up with insane tones and sounds, but it's not for everybody. Mick is certainly alone in his world. Sometimes it sounds even better to come back to the root...simple stuff. I mean most of the time, artists that creates iconic sounds are the ones that had the less gear!
