It kinda sucks that nowadays many people have downgraded or have the wrong idea just saying stuff like "feet lol". Back in SF4 days I remember Juri getting my attention because her colors (purple the best color that has ever existed), those crazy eyes she has and also her hair horns. Don't forget about her very much needed fighting style the series was lacking. Back then it never occurred to me the whole feet thing (also it wasn't much of a thing as it is now)

I don't think Juri going anywhere she's stamped what made her unique and stand out was mostly her design as well being the first female character in the series to have a dark and sinister side plus her backstory automatically being tied to Shadaloo and Bison.

Juri is arguably the best character Capcom has introduced in the past 15 + years. Her OVA was great and you knew right from the start she was going to be a main stay in the series, as Capcom intended from the start to show her as a powerful character,she absolutely destroyed well established characters from the series like Chun, Cammy and Guile. She had and has a lot going for her from a great visual design to unique gameplay and one of the few resource management characters in the series as well as a practitioner something the series was lacking. Her popularity has been recognized by Capcom as the character itself not only has been a part of the SF series ever since she was introduced but also part of several other games like Project x Zone ,the visual design is a clear winner since so many figurines and merch with Juri is being produced. Honestly whoever defaults to "Feet lol" for a reason why Juri is popular is pretty much just a sheep who never really cared for the character in the first place. In my opinion Juri is pretty much a main stay in the series and i seriously doubt there will be another SF game where she won't be added to the roster. Capcom has struck gold and they know it.

With all of anti-heroes John has pointed out there is 1 he neglect to mentioned that in some way corresponds to Juri in a way and that's Harley Quinn. A infamous Batman villian/hero who gain popularity in the 90's to early 2000 who is beautiful but has wild mischievous personality about her that's almost on par with Juri. Aside from that the appeal for me with Juri was that of her fighting style being taekwando and overall design. Of course Juri relatively debuted in Super Street Fighter IV (alongside Hakan) who much like C.Viper has an intricate story revolving Shadaloo & Bison whereas others contributed by various fighters around the world and them having their own stories. Still hoping and waiting for either Hakan & El Fuerte to return in SF6 someway, we need more SF4 representation in 6.

And you gotta remember is not just popular picks but different character archetypes and fighting styles as well those that fit the narrative in the either the World Tour story. If anything Capcom will have say for example these 5 characters coming up next dlc like Makoto, Hakan, Sakura, Necalli & a newcomer to the roster which I expecting to be the case with that last one but time will tell.

I would argue that there’s simply not many villanous women in media, and Juri fills the archetype greatly. She’s sexy, yes, but she also has personality in spades. She’s powerful, but within her story she’s still an underdog and she retains agency. Her moveset is colorful, too, which helps greatly any fighting game character. She’s simply a greatly executed archetype that is also not as common as many others, and that’s always a recipe for success.

She was the most successful because she was made at the PERFECT time and actually felt DIFFERENT and special to use and she didnt rely on the games engine to feel different. And she had actual PERSONALITY and STORY Something which characters like Ed, Necalli, Fang, Menat, Abigail, Manon, Marisa, Lily all lack. JP is the closest thing to Juri since then because he has personality and actually feels different without relying on the games engine.

Her whole design is evil and twisted, just like Juri. lol. The best characters and the most successful have personality. Hakan honestly was a FANTASTIC add too, hope he comes back. As much as i hate Rashid, at least he had personality and was popular. His story was just terrible. If you look at every single popular character, they all feel different and have a unique attracting personality to a particular kind of person. Juri is the badass tough chick who seeks to destroy, Seth, Bison, and manipulate everyone and rule on her own terms Dhalsim is "yoga" and very "zen" and calm. Blanka is wild and all over the place Honda embodies the "sumo" mindset Ryu is determined to fight clean and grow as a warrior. Ken is a family man and does whats right for himself and his family. Cammy is an agent, and is an aggressive tough chick Dan is funny and tries his hardest despite seeing his own flaws Dee Jay is a party guy looking to have fun while he fights Akuma is the Evil "obscure" character on the outskirts of everyone M Bison is the main villain, the go to bad guy. Sagat is Ryus nemesis and anti everything Ryu is Adon is wild and chaotic and seeks to destroy Sagat and all he stands for Ibuki is the cute ninja trying to be better but always being a goofball Rose is the tarot card reader psychic fighter Guy is the agile quick ninja Cody is the street badass always doing his own thing And then you have characters like Lily, Kimberly, Manon, Necalli, Ed, Falke with 0 personality or purpose and they just exist to either be "clones" of another character (lily is t hawk, kim is guy, manon is generic grappler) and its like, WTF is your story, and what ties do you have to anyone or anything in the SF universe?

I mean the ladder is Necalli who hardly has coherent sentences but others do have some personality but not as outgoing as Juri. Ed being an orphan and raise under SIN labs and was taken in by Balrog rowing up to be as harden and tough like his foster father. And Lily is from a native tribe of the Thunderfoot and is like a young curious girl who want to go out and explore the world(sounds familiar) like her "not father" T.hawk did. Juri is special for her story is more intricate and focus on Shadaloo & Bison, I say much more than Chun-li do but as a anti-villian/hero type of way.

She was fun to play the same way Sakura was fun to play in Zero 2 and Karin in Zero 3. I think if the character outlives its starting iteration in the series => it's good enough to keep around. After Zero 2, I always wanted Sakura in the next game. Zero 3 had Karin. 3.3 had a lot of characters between the twins, Ibuki, Elena & Alex (who were all re-used at one point or the other). SF4 (as a whole from SF4 vanilla to USF4) had Juri : she just was the most fun new character to play in those games. Will she become the face of Street Fighter ? probably not. Is the Chun-Li/Cammy duo of Femmes Fatales became a Trio after her debut ? Yes I think so, Juri even beat Sakura to it and she had a 10 years start.

There was a rather uncomfortable and downright creepy incident last year with a Juri Cosplayer at last year's Northern Ireland Comic Con in Lisburn. Her Juri costume was based on Thea Trinidad's Royal Rumble cosplay, meaning that along with the blonde streaks in her hair she was wearing the Juri design Air Jordans. As you'd expect, this did not sit well with quite a few male attendees at the event, who decided to heckle and yell abuse at her, most notably during one of the celebrity guest Q and A sessions, most notably during the one with Mara Wilson, she stood up to ask a question and some complete bellend yelled "lose the fucking shoes". One other person I know even said she saw one guy try to grab her leg and pull her shoe off. This cosplayer I'd say was no older than undergraduate student age, possibly even A-Level student age and she had to put up with this crap almost the entire time she was there. Fair play to her for just trying to get on with things. A lot if the people that were giving her all this abuse were stupid kids, but some of them looked like they were in their 20s and 30s.

This is where I think Capcom went wrong with her. They shouldn't have made her into a more sympathetic anti hero. They should have just kept her as a bona fide villain. The fact that in the OVA, she carried out a civilian massacre, knocked the crap out of Chun Li Cammy and Guile and put one of the dolls in a coma should have let you know she's evil, plain and simple. On top of that I don't think they should have changed her play style in SFV. I have seen many people throughout its lifespan label her as one of, if not the worst character on the roster. Also her infamously bad theme music from having one of the best in SF4 and also Capcom squandering her in the cinematic story mode. Juri's new DLC costume isn't one that suits a villain at all, it just makes her look less menacing.

Outside of her visual appeal Juri was just plain fun to play in sf4. Sure she had a high ceiling but even at lower levels dive kick punishing fireballs felt amazing. Sf5 fundamentally misunderstood this and made her a weird janky technical fighter. I'm glad sf6 has gotten back to her being fun with all skill level accessibility.

She's to Chun-Li what Vergil is to Dante and look how beloved this guy has become after appearing in DMC3. People love the shadow character archetype, people love characters like Juri and Catwoman, the ones who have maxed out the hot crazy scale, people love antiheroes and everything they used to put her together just works, including the voice actress. They knew back then they had a hit with Juri. I will never play her since I like characters that rely more on punching, like Steve, Ed, Dudley and Vanessa but for me Juri is here to stay and I would raise an eyebrow if she wouldn't be included in the next main roster.

It's 95% her design. She just looks so cool and there's no other FG character that really looks like her. She's also "evil" or at least not good, which is fairly rare in SF and FG generally. She doesn't need to be the big bad of a story, but it's nice to see some threating figures beyond Shadaloo. Finally, they gave her strong story ties to existing popular SF characters. A big issue with Chun is that she never had an antagonist / rival. Yeah, she was hunting Bison, but so is 90% of the SF cast. Capcom was never going to make Chun an honest threat to Bison. Juri is a threat on her level. She can also be a minor rival to Cammy and give her something to do beyond the tired Shadaloo doll plot.

She's pretty great. Seems like she might be sliding into a slightly more heroic category in the current game. (I'm not sure) and I was initially against it. Let us have SOME female villains that actually stay villains, I thought. Especially considering it is said the one who had her created expressly stated that she should be evil. But I always forget this series has Kolin and now we have Aki. Regardless of her story alignment, her design is fire and just watching her fight is a treat. Who else moves like her? Her taunts, specials, normals supers are all wild and entertaining. While she has been one of my favorites since here debut she is still behind Ken and Karin for me. I think it says a lot that people still wanted Juri despite not many seeming to like her play style in SF5.

I think it speaks a lot to her design and backstory that she's gotten as popular as she has considering in SF4 and 5 she wasn't exactly the easiest character to master or the best in terms of tier placement. But I don't think her connection to M.Bison should be glossed over. This is detailed further in another Eventhubs video about the dictator, but she's another example of why M.Bison works as a perfect antagonist since everyone within his circle is just made that much more compelling through their differing connections to him.

I love Juri. I love tae kwon do so I resonate with her fighting style. I'm a lot into this kind of sadist characters that don't do things for good or evil but instead because they enjoy it; I love that amorality. Fung Shui Engine is a super fun install that mekes me feel I'm playing an anime game (my favourite fg sub genere). I don't think she is losing popularity any time soon. She is a badass antihero because of her personality, not the other way around. And she's not just a hot body, she's genuinely attractive.

I seriously doubt story plays any real part in SF (or other fighting games, tbh) character popularity. A ton of fans still can't even pronounce Ryu and Chun-Li's names correctly, and good luck getting a summary of anyone's backstory out of any but the smallest part of the fanbase. Juri just lucked out and got an immediately iconic design and personality. That's what matters most, and that's what they've done better with her than probably any other character in the franchise this side of Akuma.

I like Juri because she is a Taekwando practitioner and has a good move set, but Chun-li will always be my favorite. Even as someone with a foot fetish, I don't get the sex appeal of Juri. She's not an attractive character.

Nothing about her is anti-hero because nothing she does could be seen as heroic. Anti-Villian however....as for her personality, its over done by this point. Its kinda new in the SF franchise but it comes off as tryhard in its execution. Harley Quinn, Mileena, Tira and Poison already exist. Its more annoying than cool to me. In her defence though, her fighting style while not traditional, was a glaring omission from the franchise, so she has worth on that front.

I am not even playing SF, i play other fighting games (Tekken and MK) but I know about these cause thats what make them so popular in FGC. you know why. its simple, s x uaIity sells :) and the same reason why Woke-tal Kombat's modern fem chars arent successful hahah :D

7:18 irrelevant, you're talking about the WESTERN side of things and not even that, but the parts western companies want to shove down our throats...except Kratos, I actually like the new kratos, he's not better than younger kratos, just different in a good way, but I digress, I would argue this will actually make Juri even more popular.

I honestly don't get it. Juri is a character that just genuinely pisses me off, can't figure out why. Her attitude, aura, style, hell even her voice puts me in a bad mood. She's overall just repulsive, but I guess Capcom did a good job, since I guess that was the point, since she's apparently the anti Chun-Li. Juri combos are dope though.

You know. While i'm the opposite as I love this character, I can see your point. And I think part of the philosophy for most fighting game characters is that the designers just want "a reaction" out of us. Good or bad. I donno what you'd call em but characters that behave like Marcaline the Vampire Queen really bug me too. Even though I think she is generally well written.
