Ufotable knows how to maximize on all their talents to make a really good animated story. Where they fall short is typically hidden within the amazing cinematography, art direction and music. I think UBW was one of the first anime I watched other than weekly toonami shows when I was kid. It blew my mind and kind of ruined anime for me. It took a long time for me to watch shows like One Piece because I couldn't get over how insane ufotable animation was and didn't understand why other shows couldn't look like that. To put it in perspective Kara No Kyoukai Thanatos was released in 2006.... Compare that to anything else released in that year and just realize how absolutely hard ufotable popped off. Eventually, I was able to watch a lot more stuff without caring but I'm still chasing that feeling that I had when watching UBW for the first time.

I get what you mean, but watching fate definitely didn't affect my ability to watch other animes, for me it set a bar for what truly good and consistent animation looks like. Fate is still the best when it comes to that. It kinda made me appreciate animation alot more. But eventually you realise that ufotable themselves are just too goated and that other animes usually just can't compete. I can also relate when you say you're chasing that feeling of ubw again. I still haven't experienced that feeling of watching fate zero, ubw and heavens feel and just being shocked at how good the production quality was. Demon slayer comes pretty close. Some of mappas animes and the makoto shinkai movies are also close (emphasis on the shinkai movies those almost look real sometimes). I just can't get that same feeling tho. You should check out fate strange fake, the animation was pretty damn good for that.

You can always depend on MAPPA to bring heat. And Demon Slayer is practically movie level animations every episode, so yeah I agree. There is definitely good stuff nowadays.

I haven't watched the video yet but here are my guesses about what you are gonna say They mix in cg in a way which blends with the 2d characters pretty well by using it in background Much like in demon slayer the show actually doesn't consist of much movement but they use some special effects to compensate for that And finally it makes some shorts stand out because of complex cgi camera motion

And here I am wandering seeing someone shitting on the animation of Ufotable. Also still they put budget in KNY that's bigger than a lot of anime films. My comment about budget was about salary not the skill. As I worked with an outsourcing company who do clean ups for Ufotable in Demon Slayer. But all the compositing was done by Ufotable in house , as mentioned in the video.

4:34 That lighting Its quite simple and half hour work The truck is 3d and entire landscape is in 3d including lights and you know you can reflect light on product is not 3d or 2d or hybrid. Its completely 3d and it can enable by 1 toggle and took 30 mins to perfect it.

You didn't talk about composing of frame, just explained how they work Composing is how you place people, perspective, size, space and contrast So yeah Ufo people do this great Anyway its still boring compared to Chainsawman's when every second they change pov which is impossible to ufo It works because of cinematic style of csm, when KnY uses this only between fights and its always cgi

I have to disagree. To me I.G production is the one that does the best digital compositing in the industry and is pretty normal because they were the first in doing it. I think Ufotable stuff looks really overdone to a point were a lot of the 2d fx detailed is lost. Nozomu Abe stuff looked better in Wizard Barristers.
