Nawab Siraj-ud-Daulah’s army of 50,000 faced the British East India Company’s 3,000 men, led by Robert Clive. Despite his overwhelming numbers, Siraj’s fate was sealed by betrayal and the weather. His general, Mir Jafar, conspired with the British, promising to withdraw at a critical moment. When a monsoon hit the battlefield, the rains ruined the Nawab’s gunpowder, leaving his forces defenceless. The British, with their dry gunpowder, unleashed devastating fire, crushing Siraj’s army in just 11 hours.
Crucial to this outcome were the Jagat Seths, Bengal’s wealthiest bankers. In league with Clive, they offered a fortune to overthrow Siraj. This financial backing secured the British victory, leading to their dominance over Bengal and ultimately, India.
Following his defeat, Siraj-ud-Daulah fled but was captured by Mir Jafar’s forces. Despite pleading for his life, he was brutally executed by a butcher, marking the end of his reign and the beginning of British control. The aftermath saw Murshidabad, once a thriving hub of wealth, begin its decline, with the British establishing Calcutta as their stronghold. Plassey’s battlefield, once soaked in blood and betrayal, stands as a reminder of how a single battle-and a rainstorm-changed the course of Indian history forever.

The map shown by for Bengal era showing all parts of Odisha then. ​Marathas were disgraced hardline hot-headed Hindus, and so were the SIkhs who only fought East India Company to face defeat! They were the by-product of heavy handed ruling by the Mughal. Mughals were invaders too (5th or 6th generations living in North Indian Subcontinent) but they became namesake "power" after Aurangzeb and all regional Rajas and Nizams became powerful who did not see it coming! Bengal fell because Mir Zafar, Jagat Seth and 3-4 other top important people teamed up against Siraj-ud-Daula. They only fought when they calculated they can win! So, at the peak of the Maratha, Sikh, Nizam, Haider Ali power, they waited and until their power is vastly diminished. Once they won, EIC and later British government systematically looted 43 Trillion dollars from the Indian subcontinent (sucked people, resources, industry out of the subcontinent and re-branded as "Made in Great Britain"). From 1/4 of the GDP of the entire world in 1700s, the Indian subcontinent's contribution was 0.2% in 1947. They took Indian soldiers to die in TWO world wars where they were killed in great numbers than all allied Europeans soldiers combined (by the consent of Gandhi, Nehru, Jinnah, via round table conference)! Also they caused tens of famines as they took indirectly enormous taxes from the farmers, which made everyone homeless and beggars and dead! Then they re-purpose the slave ships of Atlantic Slave Trade, and replace the freed-up African slaves with indentured laborers (girmitiya) from India to Fiji, Guyana, Mauritius, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, and other African colonies! Winners wrote the history but TRUTH is always there! So we know the "Great" Britain abolished human slavery! But tens of millions are all over the globe who have Indian ancestry ... like slaves ! I want to say though, without British there would never be an unified India. Except some mythological creations like Aryan tribe Bharata, there was hardly any king who was able to unite India completely, there was Chandragupta Maurya but that was in some BCE, and even he couldnt have Tamil and Kerala as it exists today under him Dont get me wrong, India as a concept existed before British with boundaries but this was a civilisational state, not a nation state as it exists today. The british gave us an unified language of empowerement, and a democracy. We should be thankful to them for that. Your first paragraph is largely correct. But the next two aren’t quite. The biggest power the British faced was not Islamist rulers but the Marathas. After the 3rd Anglo-Maratha war of 1818 is when the British came to rule majority of Indian territory. About language, English is convenient but not a prerequisite for development. Else countries like Japan would have never developed. The reason for development of India is the post-1991 economic reform.. English has been the co-official language of India since the constitution of 1950 so that’s not the reason.

​@@hidolfatlerAfter Aurangzeb, Mughals became too powerless to contain the the whole of mughal empire. Maratha became very powerful and had influence from Cuttack to Atak including Delhi. In short, British won 'majority' of the subcontinent from Maratha and Shikh not Mughal.

​@@garyish Marathas were disgrced hardline Hindus, and so were the SIkhs! They were the by-product of heavy handed ruling by the Mughal. Mughals were invaders too! Bengal fell because Mir Zafar, Jagat Seth and 3-4 other top important people teamed up against Siraj-ud-Daula. All these conspirators never dreamed how bad they would be later treated by the East India Company. Always in their mind was probably they were doing something good ! The funny things that this video missed is, Robert Clive made a fake document, with EIC fake signature, agreeing to all terms lid out by Mir Zafar & party. Obviously, after EIC win, it was not honored and finally Jagat Seth become poor and Mir Zafar committed suicide but EIC like a man-eater tiger got the taste of the blood and gobbled the entire country, indirectly. They only fought when they calculated they can win! So, at the peak of the Maratha, Sikh, Nizam, Haider Ali power, they waited and until their power is vastly diminished. Once they won, they and later British government systematically looted 43 Trillion dollars from the Indian subcontinent. They took Indian soldiers to die in TWO world wars where they were killed in great numbers thn Europeans combined (by the consent of Gandhi, Nehru, Jinnah, etc.)! Also they caused tens of famines as they took indirectly enormous taxes from the farmers, which made everyone homeless and beggars and dead! Then they re-purpose the slave ships of Atlantic Slave Trade, and replace the freed-up African slaves with indentured laborers (girmitiya) from India to Fiji, Guyana, Mauritius, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, and other African colonies! Winners wrote the history but TRUTH is always there! So we know the "Great" Britain abolished human slavery! But tens of millions are all over the globe who have Indian ancestry ... like slaves ! British left strategically (citing the win of non-violence!) , taking no blame for millions of deaths in partition, diving us for infinite (religion based) conflicts, installing a friendly government which kept this loot going till 1980s! @@jabinnahid9034 who fought battle of patparganj to defend mughal emperor Shah Alam sani in 1804 , yaswant rao holkar, But later shah slam sani himself sided with Britishers, marathas went to Delhi in 1757, to defend mughals from Afghans, but 1 Year later the played double game on on hand inviting Abdali and on other hand asking help from marathas, and later changing sides with Afghans.
