This is a stunning, (and often sad) and wonderful revelation. You have to make a documentary on this Sir, must must!!!

Benfica, the Portuguese team of legendary players as Eusébio and Coluna, peaked with Bella Gutman. I can confirm, as a Portuguese Benfica supporter, the managers went to Bella's grave ask for forgiveness and dedicated a statue to him in Lisbon stadium. Congratulations on your amazing research. I hope all antissemites watch it and stop playing football 😊

Thank you Simcha. I was unaware of the achievements of Jewish Football in Europe.I know of Bella Guttmann, however you put him in the full context. Hakoach Vienna beat West Ham United in 1923 ,in London. Wow! Here is an item from the internet. "West Ham 0-5 Hakoah Vienna: How an All-Jewish Team Defeated the English at their own Game, Conquered Austrian Soccer, and Defied the Nazis." By the way Wembley stadium was built in 1923. May you, we go from strength to strength or Yishar Koach ( Koach means strength in Hebrew) .

Beautiful Simcha. Thank you. ❤️ Just an addition - we need to mention the Maccabi SK football team who played in the same league with Fenerbahce and Galatasaray and also against the British occupation forces teams in Istanbul in the early years of 1900’s. They were also active in basketball. After the Repuclic was founded in 1923, they won 6 Istanbul championshios. The club disbanded in 1940 due to economical problems in the country occured because of the WW2.

Thanks Simcha, an interesting perspective on the beautiful game. An interesting aside, when the team that I support score we all sing the first two lines of Psalm 23. This has been done for a few decades now and I guess it stems from the reference to green pastures. However, it serves as a reminder that HaShem is our constant guide and keeper.

Look, Rugby was developed, long after football, which had been played for centuries in one form or another. The game we know today was refined and later spread by working mens clubs and associations when British workers of all types took it to the far reaches of the British Empire. Of course, there are Jewish people involved with football, but then, of course, the Catholic and Protestant religions can claim just the same.
@danelias8658Күн бұрын
My understanding is that Rugby was an offshoot of football (soccer).
@RamadanBatataКүн бұрын
Nope. Rugby came first.
@SionTJobbinsКүн бұрын
@@RamadanBatata no, soccer came first. The story is a school boy, William Webb Ellis, picked up the ball in his hands during the football match and ran with it. But it's fair to say that in the 1860-70s the whole idea of football/rugby was fluid and rules made up almost between teams. The rules of soccer in Scotland were slightly different to England. That's why too Australian Rules Football and American Football developed - it was all a bit hap-hazard with different 'spiecies' of football. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Webb_Ellis

Speaking of Columbus 🏈. Columbus is birthplace of NHL. Joe Carr I knew his grandson. Columbus named for that great Jewish sea Captain who discovered the Bahamas while saving a bunch of Jews from the Dominican inquisition on board a ARK named for historys greatest Jewish mother.

Hi Ismail. You do know that Islam came 2000 years after judeasim and was developed as a Ba'al worship, where you sacrificed children? Adam was not the first Muslim prophet, and Abraham was ordained to sacrifice Izhak and not Ishmael. I guess I understand why Islam is such a violent religion, as you need to live your life with frustration over the need to not only lie to the world but also to yourself. On a daily basis.

My dear. Jew is not a Race or Religion. Who do you talk about? The Israelites? They are not the Jews nor Jew is Hebrew. The Biblical Ioudaios? The people from the Area of Judea? Or modern Cult Jew that kicked of late 18 century? Look, you can learn something today.Jews: In such cases, the word used in the original Greek was "Ioudaios," which does not mean "Jew," but simply "Judean," a person whose homeland is in the land of Judea or southern Palestine. It has no religious connotation, and it does not have racial connotations either; it is a purely geographical term, like "Californian."

Very interesting. Safe to say too that the 'Palestinian national team' in the 1920-30s was the Jewish team, as, at the time, Arabs didn't play football. All the players were Jewish. But I think the concensus is that soccer came first.
