Simcha - this is far too important for a 16 minute video. It needs to be a full-length documentary, where every single point is explored and the archaeological evidence is laid out to prove the academic fraud. Maybe James Cameron will help, if not, launch it as a kickstarter and we will find the resources to get it done.

its funny how they claim Hyksos are not the Jews, but Hyksos is the ancient term for folks from the area we call the Levant/Israel now. the OT says that the Jews migrated into Egypt from that exact spot and then returned home during the Exodus. We still have exonyms for various locations (Greeks call themselves Helens, Japanese call themselves Nippon)

I am not sure what you mean by "Modern Israel" in your comment context. The mess the europeans made of 'dividing' the folded Ottoman empire not being a good start. The 1948 modern "state" again being (in a League of Nations context) a US/European main construct. Oddly those whom would call themselves "Jews" and those that occupied Palestine and moved into Gaza ( by land purchase legal contracts or otherwise ) , seem to have pretty close DNA matches which to me seems to suggest the historical "division" is a construct based on the religion followed , included in the place one chooses as the primary location of worship of the one God - Jerusalem ( which has not been fully archelogically excavated ) or the other high local mountains that say the Samaratians chose. ( are we accepting the Biblical split between Judah and Israel as kingdoms ? )

I have been interested in your content since The Naked Archeologist. I am only a gentile (with an MD but no formal training in history or archeology) with a great interest in Middle Eastern history, but mainly in the history described in the Bible. However, through my reading and research, I have been saying precisely the same things you report now for decades. I wondered how the many minimalists like Finkelstein and Cline got away with the narrative, even after genuine modern unbiased archeology has consistently proved their statements wrong! There has never been an explanation for the discovery of many cities never known to the Western Academics but in the Bible. I refer here, particularly to the storage cities of Pi-Ramases and Pithom. These cities were described as mythical until they were discovered in the 20th century. Both cities were found in "Goshen," with archeological evidence of the specific habitation of Canaanites, Hyksos, or Hebrews around them. Pithom was described as a military base set up to hold hundreds of chariots! You would think that the discovery of the entire "mythical" civilization of the Hittites based only on the Biblical story would give them pause. Keep going, my friend!

@@GreenCanvasInteriorscape Thanks so much for the back story on "Finky!" It makes perfect sense! Most of the original minimalists have backed away as more archeological finds and reviews of previous finds have been reexamined with fresh eyes and better technology, but not "Finky." I could have looked up his background years ago, but I lost interest because he seems to have become increasingly isolated among archeologists. It's true the mainstream media and university history professors still push his agenda, but many people all over the world seem to be waking up to the neo-Marxist, post-modern, woke agenda and discovering faith again. Thank you, Simcha, for all these years of excellent, indefatigable efforts! They are paying off!

Btw guys, because Simcha didn't go deeper into it: yes mainstream scholars say THAT IF it happened, the exodus was around 1270bc, but that's not the biblical timeline. Was a great fan of the Naked Archeologist. Glad to see you on-line. However, whilst I agree with you, I don't think it's unreasonable for scholars, who, as you know have to write papers which show citations and evidence, to not take the Bible on face value. I think most scholars - be they aethist, Chrisian or otherwise - believe that the Bible includes real events and a general chronology based in history, but that elements may have been emblemished. The lack of evidence by Egyptians, the lack of a name for the Pharoe in the Exodus etc are serious issues. So, I agree there can be an unwillingness to just name a culture for what it is for political or reasons which are fashionable at the time, there's also a genuine need to respect history and find evidence to back it up. But yes, there is some mind-set which makes some academics feel that if they call these people "Jews" then it suggest to their peers that they're not real academics but some creationist or someone from pre-1900 who naively believes everthing said in the Bible. They think saying "Jews" is too simplistic ... and some, want to pretend that national identity was inveted in 1848 and before then people had no national history or sense of historic belonging. Nationalism can be dangerous, but anti-nationalism can also be simply anti-nations ... which is a anti-people ... and that leads to minoritising and subjecting and nagating nations and languages too. I say this as a Welshman where all the Celtic forts, jewellry, cutlure etc is now refered to as "Iron Age" rather than Celtic because a lot of English scholars are uncomfortble with the idea that there was a Celtic (now modern Welsh) culture and language on the land of Britain before the Romans and then Anglo-Saxons (what evolved into modern England and English) arrived. In the same way Arthur - a Brythonic (that is Welsh) king has been appropriated by the English and Hollywood to being a medieval knight or some anational being, when, he literally fought against the Anglo-Saxons (that is English). Arthur is a Welsh name - arth being Welsh for 'bear'. All the names are Welsh or anglicisations of Welsh (Brythonic names). It's as if the Maccabies are made out to be some unknown a-national group of Latin-speaking legionaires not a people who literally fought against the Romans!

Excellent analysis, as usual, Simcha. Thank you. Two related questions: First, haven't archaeologists found stelae memorializing the fact that certain kings of the middle east region fought and won battles against the Kingdom of David, and aren't these staela evidence of the existence of the kingdom of the Jews separate and apart from the Egyptian records that you discuss in this video? Second, archaeologists have found records of an Egyptian pharoah who believed in monotheism. I recall that, after his death, later pharoahs and Egyptian priests attempted to remove all evidence of monothesim and reverted to the older Eyptian polytheism. Could it be that the expulsion of people you described was not only the expulsion of the Jews, but was also part of this eradication of monotheism from Egypt. Would the timing of these events further support the story of the Exodus?

Great video, Simcha. I'd add that Hyksos/Heka-khasut were a social, not ethnic group, like apiru/habiru and Shasu. Hyksos were the foreign rulers who enslaved the Israelites (or more correctly, forced them to make bricks and build cities). In Exodus 1 the pharaoh who didn't know Joseph, was afraid that Israelites would join his enemies - Egyptians/Thebans. Ahmose I, the founder of 18th dynasty, raised a big army and went 700 km from Thebes to the Delta (Goshen) to crush the Hyksos dynasty and expell the foreigners from Egypt. First he took their fortress Tjaru at the eastern edge of Goshen, then he headed west to the Hyksos capital Hut-waret/Avaris. This is the moment when the last Hyksos ruler Khamudi called Moses and Aaron and ordered them to leave (Ex. 12:31). Most Israelites left Avaris, and other foreigners, including Hyksos, left soon after (Ex. 12:38). Exodus fully matches the inscription of Ahmos son of Ebana, the general of Ahmose I. He describes how Avaris was taken and how Ahmose I pursued the Hyksos by the Horus way to their fortress Sharuhen nearby Aza.

National Geographic says: "The identity of Pharaoh in the Moses story has been much debated, but many scholars are inclined to accept that Exodus has King Ramses II in mind. The Bible confirms that the Israelites were to build “supply cities, Pithom and Ramses, for Pharaoh.” Egyptian records confirm that the kings of the 19th dynasty (ca 1293-1185 B.C.E.) launched a major military program in the Levant. As part of this effort, King Seti I (ca 1290-1279 B.C.E.) built a new garrison city, which his successor, Ramses II (ca 1279- 1213 B.C.E.), later called Pi-Ramesses. Ramses II also built a second city dedicated to his personal patron, Atum, called Per Atum. These two cities are quite possibly the biblical Ramses and Pithom. ..."

And Akenaten could easily have been a Pharaoh who was influenced by "Hyksos" (Hebrew "Amu") theology. He tried to impose a kind of "solar" monotheism, but the Egyptians would have none of it. Look at his dates. They fit in easily between the Hyksos invasion and the Exodus. The people who settled in the Levant and Canaan were called "habiru" because that means "Bedouin." No one wants to say, "Children of Israel." Rameses even said that he wiped out the hebrews in Canaan in 1227 BC. We're still here.

Very intriguing video. I would have two questions though: in Joseph's story in the Bible God or Joseph's beliefs do not seem to be mentioned, when becoming a person of power in Egypt he would have had to participate in their religious ceremonies, no problems with this are mentioned, he integrated fully. So, did he not believe in the one God by that time? Second, the Hyksos are discribed as people who took over Egypt with "superior weapons and Horses", their burial sites proving at least the latter. However, Joseph's people are discribed as nomadic shepherds and didn't use horses for war. I am not questioning your facts given in this video, which make a lot of sense. However, this two questions arose and I would like your comments on this very much. Your archeological knowledge is vast and I hope you can answer to this.

The Bible says that the Hebrews were thrust out of Egypt. The Hyksos were the Hebrews and the people that became the Scotts or the mix multitude that the Bible talks about one of the daughters of pharaoh left and married a Babylonian man during this time, the Scots most likely traveled with the tribe of Dan. went through Spain, where our history says, we lived with the worst of tribes. Eventually ended up in the country that’s now known as Ireland, and then the diuretic Scott’s separated from the Irish went across the channel to the land that is now known as Scotland utterly destroyed the pics which is what the Romans called the people that was living there, and they entered the land that’s now known as Scotland 1200 years after the Hebrews Cross the Red Sea. The only way we would know in our oral history of when the Hebrews cross the Red Sea is if we went with them. So we would have known we are in the Hebrews cross the Red Sea because the Hebrews went their way and the people that became the Scotts went their way and Saint Patrick cast out the snakes from Ireland. Yeah, there was never any snakes in Ireland, but the tribe of Dan. The symbol for that tribe is the snake, so it was the tribe of Dan. That Saint Patrick cast out of Ireland.
