These were fun toys. When I was growing up in Ohio, one of my classmates lived in a small town called Zoar. Never understood why the Filmation cartoon pronounced it "ZO-arr," though, when the name's obviously based on "soar."

I loved my 2 MoTU birds as a kid, but always like Zoar better as a separate character. I enjoyed the Filmation cartoon as much as anyone else, but I almost liked the mini-comics stories better, at least the earlier ones.

The fact that Zoar is an actual bird, and Screech is a robot is what lead me to displaying them differently in my collection. I have the armour for both, but I only have it on Screech, since Zoar never had it in the show and, to me at least, it physically represents Screech's robotic nature.

Like many things MOTU, I actually preferred the version that was originally intended. Here, Zoar as a fully-fledged own character. Awesome. I knew Battle Cat was from the Big Jim Tiger/Tarzan Panther, but I had no idea about zoar and screech. I had both individual releases as a kid, but I recall the feet broke quite easily, and the wing mechanism tended to make part of the wings always pop off.... Now I guess I know why...a reused idea from a decade earlier 😉.

I thought it was lame as a kid that screech got red instead of Panthor-green armor. Lookin back, the cross-sell green armor & perch would’ve been better for zoar, and it’s cool you put it in that weapons pack. it’s funny to imagine them dismissing all of the inconsistencies they fed our “little pea brains,“ to borrow a quote from TTTMU. not that it affected sales at all, but I definitely remember being bugged when i was 8 and the cartoon was all goofy compared to the dark awesomeness of the Alcala mini-comics & view-master slides. I was especially baffled they didn’t use Tri-Klops’ insanely rad voice in the Alcala Point Dread book/record. It was even cooler than soundwave’s, I played that scene over & over like a DJ & daydreamed about using that voice on strangers. Things like the attack trak, faker & clawful looking completely different in Filmation was a lame cop-out to me. I had no conception of things like man-at-arms’ having limb armor on both sides so they could reuse his animation horizontally flipped for different scenes. please touch on the two different orange Zoar paint schemes & you guys’ decision to make all the falcons earth-scale in classics (which I didn’t mind). The video doesn’t have to be super brief or anything. also some guy in europe painted a thrift store perched eagle sculpture it in Zoar colors. It looks cool af, you should show it

Strangely enough I remember getting a similar eagle as part of the Falcon line from Estrela in the 70's (Brazilian 12" GIJOE licensed, ). We had no Big Jim round these parts.

Giving away the Secret lore of Zoar its funny even at the time I could tell they didn't fit the line along with the cats. Skeletor Glass is a bit like a Tusken Raiders poise. My siblings were about 10 years older so I think I remember the Tarzan Panther or Big Jim stuff. Its funny TEela with Snake armor coming with the Bird I think its how I got it too. It seems like they just put Purple Carpet on the Skeletor one I think we ripped that off one of them back in day. Snake, Bird, Egg its all bound to happen if only they had the Stork too. Too bad it didn't come from Blue Falcon along with Dynomutt or Birdman heh.

Huh.... This makes me a bit surprised that they didn't go for making Teela a bit more of a falconer or training "defensive palace hawks" or some Eternian avian creation. It would've offered more accessories for the toy..... and kinda given the Sorceress a story way to spend time with her daughter; albeit in disguise. Plus there would've been ample "joke fodder" of Teela's favorite bird teasing Cringer or Orko. Way to drop the potential there, Mattel. :P

I tell ya, the only other toy company I can think of who recyles names more than Mattel is Hasbro (mainly w/ it's Transformers). But, it's pretty ingenious how Mattel did it, creating "brand-new" & beloved characters--who are as recognizable as He-Man himself (even to "casual" audiences). While I know that it's cheaper to reuse molds, but Screech should've been an owl. I'm sure MOTU lore is going to change, making Zoar & Screech "bird goddesses" who give female warriors great power (kind of akin to how Marvel Comics' "Phoenix Force" grants characters they "possess" (namely telepaths) powerful psionic powers--on a "cosmic" scale.

I used to love watching that movie as a kid, & never released it had a name (I was really young & probably just don't remember). But yeah, a screech owl & a falcons are both "smaller" apex raptors. Plus Evil-Lyn would look cooler w/ an owl motif, to counter the Sorceress's "falcon garb". Or maybe make "the owl lady" a new character, who's Evil-Lyn's former teacher (when she lived on the streets). Maybe have her "betray" Evil-Lyn by selling her off, or leaving her behind. I'm sure they could craft a mother/daughter dynamic like they did w/ Adora, Catra & Shaow Waver, from the Netflix She-Ra show. Say what you want about the show, but that was some captivating characterization.

Supposed to be, yes, but falcons have thinner, pointier wings and smaller beaks with a slightly different shape. It's like if Mattel tried to pass off a Great Dane as a poodle, or a tiger as a housecat.

I hoped to have sent back the Skeletor figure as he’s dirt cheap now but it went beyond targets return policy. And the latest ones. The last two waves? Was bbts the only retailer for those?
