This is the part of my game that I’m concentrating on at the moment - gaining consistency, accuracy, and distance to driver. In fact, I am about to leave for the range to practice this morning-your video is the perfect coaching I needed before my practice session. Many thanks! By the way, the progress I’ve made as a relatively new 70 year old golfer watching your videos over the past few years has given me the confidence to join a senior men’s league and play in their competitions. I had been thinking too much about turning my hips in the backswing until I saw this video as well as the one on using a back and forth motion of my hips instead of rotating. The improvement in accuracy and distance is remarkable. The hip movement correction also has improved iron accuracy and returned my distance to a reliable point so that I’m not guessing on club selection. Danny is a great instructor. I have been taught my whole life to swing through the ball, not at the ball. This thought has worked well for me to eliminate an outside-in swing and help to eliminate the hit impulse. Now I am being told to “hit” at the ball hard. So confused. You are the GOAT, so I will give it a try.
@DanielMaude3 ай бұрын
Often that advice comes before side you are hitting hard from the top. The key here is the power is at the bottom of your swing. Happy to answer any questions you may have after trying
@rw_golf63872 ай бұрын
@ This worked Danny! This is why you are the GOAT. I picked up about 15 yards and 4-5 mph clubhead speed with no extra effort. I would just caution folks to wait a bit on the downswing so there is no over-the-top or hit impulse. Then just let it rip to the back of the ball. Feels so good. Thank you Danny!

That two-tone wall behind you in the face-on view really shows how your hips move during the swing, with the hip bump at setup, the backswing and where the hip (and head) is at impact. Genius ☝🏻 Also, I’ve always used an intermediate target (maybe a foot or two in front of the ball), but sometimes I just forget to use it. I need you in my head on the tee. I was looking for ways to improve my drive and this video has helped. It made me realize that my spin loft was too high and that my downswing was too steep. I took this video instruction to the driving range and started hitting draws and hooks that were previously fades and slices. I took it to my local 9 today and hit my longest drives yet. The technique added 20-30 yards to my drive, and eliminated slices. The only downside was an occasional hook. However this seemed to be controllable by having the left hip less closed at set up. Got a new driver in August and have been trying to figure out how eliminate the fade-slice. This video did it. Many thanks Danny from a fan from across the pond.

Hi Danny, you did it successfully again: gave amazingly simple advice to most likely transform or improve my golfswing. I must admit it takes courage to trust ones aiming to use the small gate instead of focussing at a distant goal, but I will check that out to see, of this is a good idea to improve my swing and ideally reduce the spin rate. Thanks for your pictures and visuals to explain mechanics and dynamics. This for me is great instruction and of big help!

Hit rug wi’ bat. Pure gold. Getting the pressure in on the inside of the back foot is something I used to do. This is a terrific lesson even if the senior lads in Arizona might not immediately get the Yorkshire cricket analogy. It does explain why baseball hitters, cricket batsmen and Irish hurlers get natural distance with the driver though. This is getting a workout later today for sure. Thanks Danny.

Danny just played a round this morning and used your driver instruction. For me, the driver is my most inconsistent club. I generally, fade the ball and it rarely goes where I am aiming. The instruction for me was impressive, in particular the tilting of the rear shoulder and opening of the rear foot. First time ever, I hit straight shots where I aimed and increased my distance by 15 yards. The tilting of the rear shoulder, I believe, helped me to stop “ coming over the top”

Thanks Danny. You presented almost all the things I do to loose distance - I would add one more issue I have - confidence, or maybe you covered that with your concept of trying to hit a target. When I started golf at about 55 years of age I had few skills but lots of confidence. As skills improved confidence grew. As I get older (78 now) I have lost confidence that I know where or how far the ball will go, so I try to steer the ball. These simple techniques you described today are within my physical capabilities - like your Dad. So when the rain stops I'll be out to my practice setup in the garden to try this out and see if I can apply your suggestions for the match next Tuesday.

Great video Danny as always. Reminiscent of Henry Cottons old tip about hitting a tyre with a stick.
