In the modern world we underestimate the power of our nose but a future without smell is a scary prospect. In this fascinating talk Aaron Wisniewski looks deeper into the history of smell and the role an Olfactory Virtual Reality can have in our future. A mad scientist, artist, olfactory activist. Aaron is the Founder and CEO of Alice & the Magician: an experimental Flavor and Fragrance company. He is also founder and CEO of OVR Technology: an innovative company combining the power of olfaction with the potential of virtual reality to advance human experiences. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I have always believed our sense of smell has been the most underrated. Awesome talk Aaron, you truly are a magician.

This makes so much sense with the way people are attracted to each other when the pairing just doesn't seem logical. Good stuff.

I wanted to invent a bottle that can capture, store, playback the smell of my grandma's house when I was 6. I've been keeping this idea in mind till today. Smell matters. Thank you for really working on it. Hope that I can contribute my part on this great work.

I remember trying versions of this tech when we were doing VR in the early 90's, cool to see it happening again.

Very interesting. I did have a very nice girlfriend many years ago back in college. We got along great. But there was something 'off' about her breath. It wasn't bad breath, not at all. It was never anything I thought enough of to mention to anyone ... ever. It just wasn't right. After watching this video, I think it must have been the sense of smell which kept us from getting married. I have been married now for 34 years to someone else. I guess the nose ... knows.
