They use the label “Mormon” because it adds to the salacious and edgy nature of the show. They are “selling” their religious ties to the Church, and the Church’s name for their 15 minutes and 30 pieces of silver.

I feel that SINCE they're using the Mormon name, they need to state that the "Mormon" church's counsel is against those particular things they do - SO that they don't misrepresent the church. Then do whatever they want with the show. They're using the "Mormon" name to sell the show - as well as sex or almost-sex content. For me, it'd be a waste of time - feeding my Spirit trash. It's like junk for for the soul.

I grew up in a Methodist household where only my grandmother was the coffee drinker, but the smell of coffee makes me nauseous. I converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at age 19, and I don't even like going down the coffee aisle at the grocery store because I can smell the coffee beans. Ugh!

Regarding 6:31, this is the scripture that came to my mind. Helaman 3. 33 And in the fifty and first year of the reign of the judges there was peace also, save it were the pride which began to enter into the church-not into the church of God, but into the hearts of the people who professed to belong to the church of God- 34 And they were lifted up in pride, even to the persecution of many of their brethren. Now this was a great evil, which did cause the more humble part of the people to suffer great persecutions, and to wade through much affliction. Sure, folks like this are not directly persecuting the Church, but wielding the Church's name and identity with such egregious negligence overall keeps our brothers and sisters further away from a covenantal relationship with Jesus Christ and an understanding of His truth. It generates additional affliction for those in the church, increases hostility towards its members, and perpetuates what we find in Doctrine and Covenants 123:12. Luckily, we are reminded in Helaman 3:35 of the blessings that came to the church of God in that era and can come to us as well if we yield our hearts to God.

I don't like watching people turning their lives into a train wreck. The end of this story is very predictable and you don't have to be a "mormon" to know that they are ruining their lives. It's not about "mormon rules" it's about stupid choices. The sad thing is that they know how to make good choices, but they don't want to do it. Don't blame the church.

The biggest two issues I see are these: 1. It’s not that they sin, it is that they are not repentant. The lord says he will save us FROM our sins but not IN our sins. 2. They are representing a church whose teachings they do not follow. They need to differentiate themselves. I would not be surprised if they were or are excommunicated for promoting such sins.

It is interesting that Joseph in the D&C said the word of wisdom was not given by way of commandment. He even “corrected” the Bible in Colossians 2 with the JST saying “Which are after the doctrines and commandments of men, who teach you to touch not, taste not, handle not; all those things which are to perish with the using?” The church today makes obeying the word of wisdom a requirement to one seeking exaltation in the temple recommend interview. So I can understand the perspective of some that choose to be LDS and partake in those things doctrinally.

I think of President Uchtdorf's talk "Stop it" when this comes to mind, because who are we to judge their relationship with Heavenly Father and Christ. However, because of the title of the show, it gives a sense that this show is a representation of "Mormon Wives" which to the masses that "all Mormon wives" are like this and I believe that is where people's anger comes from. The show runners could have easily called the show, "Secret lives of Utah lives" and the people involved happened to be mormon, but that wouldn't get people talking about it as much as the actual title does. It isn't very often that the Church or the members of the Church in Hollywood media are represented accurately or in a good light. I remember watching the first episode of Quantico, the only episode I watched, where one of the recruits was nicknamed, "Elder Eric." The producers got many things wrong within the first few minutes and then proceeded to make him the dark secret that leads him to offing another recruit and then himself before the end of the episode. I can't think of one show where a member is perceived in a good light that wasn't produced by a member of the church. I think that is more a reflection on Hollywood media and not entirely on the women in this show.
@rutht2023

Most of the reality shows are salacious and degrading. This one looks especially so, while making church members, and the church, look BAD! The opposite of sharing the Gospel. The opposite of missionary work. Best case scenario, someone gets curious about what the church really teaches, starts searching, and is converted. I definitely will not watch this orgy of a show. And a restitution of all things was prophesied in Acts would occur before Christ's 2nd coming. If your beliefs say we are not Christian in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints then you are free to believe as you feel is right, but this only cleary tells me that I could never trust or follow what you believe. Not only because the name of Jesus Christ is in the name of our church, but because of seeing my whole life the members trying to follow Jesus Christ no matter what state or ward I lived in and seeing it in the examples of the members across the world. We aren't perfect and never will be, but we are trying to follow Jesus Christ's teachings and example, because of our faith and love for Him. This is what our church teaches. If this isn't your definition of what a Christian is then I wouldn't want to follow what your definition of Christian is. So saying we are not Christians makes it easy to know who not to listen to and is an example of what the commentor at the top is referring to.

Hi- I'm new to this channel. But I think these women don't want to admit that they are no longer part of the community of their upbringing. As an adult who is still a practicing member, I have seen many friends go through faith transitions and step out of the church. The difference here is that these folks can still participate in sacrament, but they cannot hold callings or go to the temple with the way they are living. Now that it is so public, no bishop in his right mind would grant them a temple recommend unless they wholeheartedly turned back to their covenants. They are not wearing their garments as instructed. They are not keeping the law of chastity. They are not following the word of wisdom. They are deeply embedded in self aggrandizement, which is also considered a sin. If they truly "claimed" their church membership, they wouldn't be doing any of those things. They just want to be in a culture. I'm all for accepting and loving people who want to join and participate. But this feels like outright disrespect. They know what they're doing because they're getting paid and they're getting attention. The very existence of this KZbin video is evidence of that. As a feminist in this religion, it sickens me that these women could not see that Jesus Christ is the ultimate egalitarian who wants each of his brothers and sisters to choose a path that brings them joy. You can be a career woman, a stay at home mom, single, divorced, childless, etc and still be loved and valued. This drives me crazy because they are missing the point of the spiritual nature of the church. They think it confines them, but nothing confines any person without that individual allowing it to confine them. Yes, there are commandments. Yes, there are black and white rules. But what religious institution doesn't have rules? We believe in absolute right and wrong, so those rules provide order and guide posts. I'm in no way jealous of them. I am angry at them for perpetuating lies. I'm angry at them for making it more difficult for those of us practicing to be taken seriously.

The most beautiful women in the world are women in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints. That beauty comes from within first and then it is seen in their lives, by their actions. Two incidents I would like to relate that show the beauty of real women of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: 1) At a church activity, the mother of a newborn baby was holding her baby and his diaper leaked all over her. Within moments two sisters took the baby and two sisters took the mother and hustled them off to the restroom and cleaned them both up without her even asking for help. Those seasoned ladies knew exactly what needed to be done without asking. 2) Another sister was about to be married in a few days and she had lice in her long, black hair. She had already shampooed her hair and gotten rid of the lice, but the Relief Society president called a few sisters for help, including me, and we went over to her house and spent several hours pulling the nits out of her hair. Would you have answered that call for help? We did.

This so-called 'reality' TV show offers nothing of value and is something I will never watch. The participants do not accurately represent the lives of devout, covenant-keeping members of the Church. Instead, they present shallow caricatures of themselves, lacking any meaningful content.

As a non-member (and never have been), but someone who is somewhat educated in the LDS faith, I think they used the word ‘Mormon’ as many lay people still use that term. Especially in other parts of the world. Where I am from, LDS members are not common at all and I would say 85% of the population do not know that the word Mormon if no longer used.

What is the definition of a “member” according to you guys? I am pretty sure that anyone who was once baptized is counted as a member, unless they resign or are excommunicated. Not all “members “ are the same and not all are perfect. If you are on the records of the church, the church considers you a member - so until they resign or are excommunicated, they are indeed Mormon wives.

It’s interesting to watch this conversation around these people after your interview with Ben Shilaty about being a gay member of the Church. He dates men, which is also “not living what we believe” but you treated that topic much differently, almost reverently. Rainbow pushers get respect and these straight people that struggle with commandment keeping are talked about like they’re not real people, and in many conversations they’re outright stoned. I am an LDS wife and mother and should be offended at being portrayed this way by the Hulu show, but I’m so sick of having to bow to the golden calf of gay and gender diverse members that I’m happy for the distraction of a different type of sinner showing off their rebellion. 🤪 Bring it on! 🎉 if we’re going to broaden the road for gay couples, it’s got to be broad enough for coffee drinkers and swingers.

@@n.d.m.515 Hey, there's a difference between being gay as in "experiencing homosexual attractions", and being gay as in "consciously sinning via homosexual behavior". One's a trial, the other is a sin. Both people experience the attraction. Only one embraces it. The conscious embrace is the sin. There's some depth as to why, but I'm not going to explain that here. I'm just saying, the road doesn't need to be broad enough for all kinds of sinners, but the entryway MUST be. Then they can get in and be brought to the Truth and the Light. 😏

I grew up in the church. Not Mormon, nonetheless my experience is that there are always groups of people within the church that live double lives. I was homeschooled, and went to church two times a week up until I was 15. Let’s keep in mind the pope has a reputation for liking little boys. So I’m not sure why the title of this show is that shocking or harmful. Religious people who don’t live double lives are extra judgmental. I left the church years ago and I’ve never been happier. The period of my life where I was forced to go to church was extremely dark and depressing. Let’s all work towards being kind to our bodies, ourselves and others. It does not need to be complicated.

It seems like there are Mormans (LDS?) that live like this. You know...in secret. Seems like the title is appropriate to me. I've been friends with many Mormans, of all of them, I only know of two families, out of over a dozen, that the husbands didn't cheat on their wives. The boys I met at the ward dances in my youth (circa 1997-2001) were having sex before their mission. This show was very much in line with my experience with the LDS people I've known personally. And yes, they identified as LDS, and did the things (gaments, temple, etc.).

I suppose the worst thing for them, in this life, is that they probably won't get a Temple Recommend to go through the endowments. And in terms of the greater cosmology they would perhaps miss out on the best version of heaven, but levels 2 and 3 don't see that bad, so drink up the coffee, I guess.

Likely unpopular opinions... there are two churches: The "Mormon" Church and the Church of the Firstborn. If somehow, these reality TV personalities still have their LDS membership, they are second-class members if they don't have their temple recommend. Also, this is on ABC, so how many members of the church LOVE Disney but are not happy about this? The time has past where members can be lukewarm.

I see them as wealthy lower class. It is bothersome to use the name ‘Mormon’ because I don’t feel like our religion is understood well throughout the country. Even if you say Mormon is an ethnicity rather than a religion necessarily, I don’t think nonmembers understand that. I suppose if it were a show about Jewish wives doing this, then I wouldn’t necessarily think they were orthodox believers.

…yea, and it was among those also who *professed* to belong to the church of God. 12 And it was because of the pride of their hearts, because of their exceeding riches, yea, it was because of their oppression to the poor, withholding their food from the hungry, withholding their clothing from the naked, and smiting their humble brethren upon the cheek, making a mock of that which was sacred, denying the spirit of prophecy and of revelation, murdering, plundering, lying, stealing, committing adultery, rising up in great contentions, and deserting away into the land of Nephi, among the Lamanites- 13 And because of this their great wickedness, and their boastings in their own strength, they were left in their own strength; therefore they did not prosper, but were afflicted and smitten, and driven before the Lamanites, until they had lost possession of almost all their lands.
