I can vouch for the smoke and cedar points. I have a fragrence called Burning Leaves that's notes are "autumn leaves burning on a base of Agar wood" and nearly every time I wear it I get compliments from women, and one called Green Man that's notes are Moss, Cedar, pine, and patchouli that never fails to impress. Great video.

*I would love to get your take on English Laundry,* which is my go-to for fragrance. I used to be a fan of Drakkar Noir when it first came out in the early 80's, but I knew literally nothing about fragrance. I just liked the aroma. English Laundry offers a rather broad selection of fragrances, and they provide literature to accompany each product, which has helped me to learn more about how fragrance is a lot like wine. Due to early medical issues as a child, I do not have a nose for fragrance or taste (which is governed largely by smell). The literature helps me to understand and appreciate the overall fragrance I smell in spite of my inability to detect the subtleties of it all.

I've been looking for a scent with carnation in it for Mother's Day, as the carnation is a flower that is symbolic of mothers. The only scent I own with it is Nize 10, which is a leather scent from the 1930's. Any suggestions for a guy?

Jack here - resident Englishman. Happy to take the blame for this one, as I forgot to put a pronunciation guide in there for Kyle. I see the scent on my dresser every day, so I didn't think that the unusual spelling to pronunciation for non-British folk would be an issue. Thanks for your support!

I don't usually change between fragrances, I link personality or personal style to them. For example I tend to be serious (or that's what I think) and rather introspective so I feel that earthy fragrances, maybe wood, suits me more than a citrus one. After watching this video I think it is time to change and ia worth trying playing a little with it and see if, at least in a subtle and subconscious level things can change positively.

Can I inquire into the erudite gentleman who has read D'Annunzio, JK Huysmans and Wilde? I admire a fellow aesthete---I simply hope this was not found in a Wikipedia entry.
@ebdaniels87746 ай бұрын
A pleasure to meet you! I'm one of the Gentleman's Gazette scriptwriters. I learned about Huysmans after reading Wilde (A footnote noted that the "forbidden novel" Dorian Gray reads is probably A Rebours). And I have been a fan of d'Annunzio since learning about him from my late grandmother, who could read him in the original Italian. Il Piacere is one of my very favorite novels. How many of these classics have you read?
@Aestheticaye6 ай бұрын
@@ebdaniels8774 Likewise! I must say, it's a pleasure to meet someone who embodies a classical aesthetic and also refined taste in literature. I'm forever disappointed in the contrarieties between those interested in learning and culture and their shabbiness of dress, and those who pursue elegance in menswear without consideration for its broader implications in the soul and the spirit (a la Ficino). Your grandmother (bless her soul) had some wonderful taste! I'm a devotee of the Decadents/Symbolists and a poet, so D'Annunzio's Halcyon comes immediately to mind. If you're interested in the short story that has intimations of the uncanny, the Englishman, Robert Aickman may come to mind---he was a great admirer of the poet of Fiume and wrote a novel called "Go Back At Once", which explores a bit of D'Annunzio's chaotic creativity. JK Huysmans A Rebour and Wilde's works are of course the cornerstones for such movements. Theophile Gautier, Baudelaire, Gustave Flaubert, Valery Bryusov, etc etc. I'd recommend them all! As fuel for your next script, perhaps you can incorporate Balzac's "Treatise on Elegant Living"?
