easy way to break out of the minor pentatonic, just play the minor scale I almost never play the pentatonic always the normal 7 note minor scale
@agustinboedo16117 жыл бұрын
Me too
@Blitzentine7 жыл бұрын
Unless you are targeting specific "bluesy" notes, it won't "sound bluesy" if you're just playing the minor scale, even if the pentatonic notes are within the scale itself. The only way to get a guitar to "sound" like a certain genre is by playing the notes in a certain way. In any case, it doesn't matter, the major sixth isn't in the minor or standard pentatonic scale anyway. So, y'know, just work on your theory.
@austinmoser50567 жыл бұрын
NEMusic ya I know I have learned decently well how to use the minor scale to get the sound that I eant
@DanCampbellGuitar7 жыл бұрын
If you're playing over dominant 7th chords however, playing the minor (natural minor) scale won't work as good as you think as dominant chords are major based. This note is really using some Dorian spice.
@alfredfarber33857 жыл бұрын
Or, you can use the 7-note blues scale.

ya, that F# in the A pentatonic scale always fascinated me. I just hear something there with a lot of melodic potential and maybe something that would sort of showcase that note in a song. I always liked that outside Eb in there too for added funk.

I'd be surprised if there were people who didn't know about this... I understand that some people get "stuck" in the pentatonic box but I highly doubt that means that they actually only ever use those five notes.

I learn all of these modes, but when playing I never stop to intellectualize what I _should_ be playing, and instead fall upon what sounds good to me. When does the _"thinking about it"_ come into play? My guess would be while writing something, but I'm curious about your take on this.

If we play A minor pentatonic then how do you relate to F# major scale modes? I just don't see the connection. Thanks!
@Gregorypeckory7 жыл бұрын
Nice lesson, but the reason the 6th is the "secret" note of the minor pentatonic is the same reason the flat 5th is-because those notes aren't part of the scale. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be used of course, but I just felt like pointing that out because it's fun to be a theory Nazi. ;)

When you add a note to a pentatonic scale, doesn't it cease being pentatonic and become hexatonic?
@loopie0077 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you didn't really show where the "note" is. Next time zoom in on the fretboard. Also, the playing is too fast for learning, but excellent for listening. Maybe that's why it's a "Secret".
@fergguitar99657 жыл бұрын
He played it on the guitar and you could see where his finger was on the fretboard. Plus he told you what the note was in relation to the a minor box. Plus you have ears.

Ok...I'm a beginner. I've heard some call a note a blues note. Is that the same as the F# here? Or am I confusing it with something else.
@mas_33307 жыл бұрын
Radar Luau Zen Pi The blue note is tritone or 6 half steps so in A minor you would play d# and thats your blue note

@orel19967 жыл бұрын
To be honest I think the title is misleading. I thought this would be about how to effectively use the fourth or something, but you're talking about the major 6th which isn't even in the pentatonic scale. This lesson is basically "use dorian" :\

Think so, too. I'd like to know, which chords are played in the rythm section, so i could just check that. When i can use that major six as additional note in the aeolian mode, i would be pretty suprised. Already tried that a lot, but it never seemed to work, like it should.
