If you are a golfer looking to improve chipping, using this one secret move to improve chipping will help you lower scores and help your golf short game!
Learn how to play better golf today:
www.greatgolfti...
If you are struggling with consistency, have problems with topped balls and chunk shots, these golf tips are for you! If your golf chipping is lacking and you can't seem to find the greens, you may have to take a look at your chipping golf swing, and your golf chipping technique.
If you tend to take the club inside and around your body, you probably tend to have poor contact and inconsistency in your short game. You may find yourself making contact with the hosel and hitting nasty shank shots, or you are hitting bladed shots that go skidding across the green.
Likewise, if you start hinging your golf swing as soon as you start your takeaway into the backswing, you probably find yourself stabbing down at the ball. This may cause you to either stick the club into the ground or hit behind the ball, leading to that embarrassing dribbler that finishes just inches or feet in front of you.
Luckily, these are both very simple problems to fix, and this video gives you one of the best golf chipping drills to help you start playing your best golf! These golf chipping tips and chipping drills will have you shooting lower scores and enjoying the game in no time!

I had been chipping hundreds of balls really well (my standard!). I started shanking 50% of them. I figured that pulling the club inside and not getting it back in time was the issue. This video has just confirmed what I puzzled out. It does seem it's like putting with a wedge! Gives great positive visualisation. Thank you 👍

Had exactly the same experience ..I’ve always been a very good chipper then during a practice session in my garden started shanking, duffing, thinning ball after ball…probably 100 + rubbish shots. Thankfully I found this the same day and realised what I’d started to do. I just now need to banish the memory of those awful chips 😱

Good tip! I would add, especially for beginners and those of us that can't play as much as we'd like to;: keep your head down and eyes on the contact point till AFTER, you hit the ball (do not move your head up with your club). The margin for error at the point of contact is so small. Do it and when you look up (after) you hit the ball you'll see magic....

I think a number of instructors would disagree with this as it restricts you from finishing your turn. Daniel Grieve for instance has a great short game book where he says the following: “A smooth transition with the thought of your chest rotating towards the target supporting the release is key. It is why keeping your head down is one of the worst tips you can get as it prevents the natural rotation of your chest towards the target.”

Priceless advice Todd. We've just started back after a 3 month covid shutdown and before that my short game was pretty good. Watching this video has explained why it's not been too good since starting back.... the drag inside has been causing all those bad shots you've highlighted. Now turned it around by keeping the club on the right path. Great videos with lots of top tips, thank you.

Todd, first off, im from Ramona Ca. Which is northeast of San Diego. I was asked to coach our Freshman golf team this year, most of whom i coached in football. So i figured i had better get my game up to par, no pun intended. So i started doing research on where else but the web. I found that you clips are by far the most helpful. Pending on the practice for the day, ill look up and watch your videos, take notes and pass them on to my players. The best part is when the players start to understand and the shots show it. Better contact, straighter and longers shots. Thanks for all of the videos and i look forward to seeing more. Jay Stenberg

You are correct. Lee Trevino also uses this but explains it a bit differently. He says that keeping the grip hidden behind the forearm, i.e. not cocking the wrist at any time in the backswing, promotes a one piece takeaway of the club and crisper strikes. He's right - best chipping tip I ever received.

Before watch this video I did not realize that I was bringing the club head too far inside on the backswing. That caused me to rush the downswing in order to get the club head to the ball. This caused inconsistencies consisting of hitting behind the ball or blading the ball with an occasional decent shot. However after now following your recommendations my consistency it’s so much improved and I am really enjoying chipping. Thank you for this very helpful chipping lesson.

For years I have struggled to chip, its got so bad I’m terrified around the greens. No coach has sorted it out. You nailed it. During take back the butt of my club was going in a different direction to the head, causing me to knife and chunk shots. To make it worse I was coming inside as well. Exactly as you described. Now I feel the ball rolling up the club face in a way it didn’t before, leading to better contact and softer shots. Going out to practice. Thanks.

I work on this constantly. But often forget the principle on the course. If we chip this way we have to use lower lofted clubs for longer chips. This video helped me see that. Use the same tempo with a lower lofted cub to let the ball run a little more than a 56 or 58. Nice, thanks.

Great Great video. My swing thoughts on chipping. 1. Survey Thea area from flag stick back to ball, up hill, down hill, flat, and slop. 2. Position and lie of my ball, and how much loft I need to get the ball landing and run out along entened line. 3. Select club on condition presented to me...ie, how far away from edge of green, up hill, down hill flat, then select club. 4. Stand behind ball draw line at landing spot, step, step into position with club head pointed at target landing area, and make a couple of practice stokes, feeling my shoulders and arm moving together, and always making sure I follow thru to desired position for that particular shot..Keeping my rythem of back and thru of swing.....Leland

Great points. You didn't ramble at all. Also, for me at least, POSTURE. Upper body, neck, shoulder, head all need to be extended for me to make consistently good contact. One reminder is feeling the label on my shirt collar touch the back of my neck, so pressing my neck upwards slightly is a good way to set good posture before the shot. I can have a great set up and have tried many different tweaks for better contact, but if I slump, bad things happen. In my practice today, I learned once again the true importance of really good posture. When I straighten everything above my waist and specifically above my shoulders, and then relax slightly without changing that posture, I make excellent and consistent contact and can control distance and accuracy fairly well (true of any shot). It is when I am tired and begin to slump--shoulders, head, spine angle--that chunks and mis-hits start to plague my round. This is something to be wary of typically in the middle of the back nine when fatigue starts to creep in. Tempo also is important with a nice rhythmic "one, two" back and forward. I like the hands and club head moving back together at the beginning...another big help is hitting tons of practice shots from different lies, and using one or two clubs around the green. Looking just in front of the ball tends to help me also.

This is a great video Todd and an excellent explanation. I've become aware of and practice some of the things you mention, but your explanation helped to 'join the dots' for me. In addition, the f/o view near the start just cemented something I've very recently been working on with good results. One question though, you say that this 'just isn't taught properly', which I believe. So why do you think that is, and where does it leave the poor student when every Pro' seems to think that they're right, but clearly many are not?

Excellent video. Wish I saw this a year ago! Chipping was always the best part of my game until I started chunking and skulling a few. Totally lost confidence and my scores rose from a 6 hdcp . to an 11! Played today 63 degrees near Philadelphia on Dec.13 th! That's not good - another story altogether. Anyway I chipped one in for birdie on a short side out of the rough. More importantly I saved 6 pars with other chips and I shot 3 over par!! Thank you for this great tip!!!!

Good explanation of flaws when chipping. I am old school, I use irons to chip, a chipper, and hybrids as well. Never a wedge unless it's a flop shot.

18 handicapper here ..After watching your video, I agree with your technique, but execution of what tour saying, is where I get uncertain exactly how to execute the shoot. . When I taught in the military, I used,.....TASK (What Your About To Teach)....Conditions..( what Is needed to complete the task)..Stanards.(How well you'll perform after knowing the Task and Conditions).....I've seen alot of video's on golf, and incorporate from different PGA Professional Teachers, who I think are awsome....So get get me wrong, but your video on what you say, or come across, leaves doubts on what I'm suppose to learn. . The best PGA teacher I've seen on the video's so far, is Adam on Scratch Gold Academy.......Simple, to the point, and I know immediately what he was teaching, and how to go out and practice what he said... Please dont take my comment the wrong way, I really appreciate what you do, and by over 300 hundred thousand like your doing well, but you did ask to commit...I have alot of ideas on practice and sound fundamentals, but no way I'm writing it all down......I'm basically self taught, by listening, watching, then incorporating what I need into my own game.....I'm by far no expert, but by trial and error, and taking responsibility for my own game, it is what it is........Got time and like to chat, I'll call if you like, we could bounce ideas around. ........Leland

Great tips. The inside move is death. Pete Cowen talks about pushing the toe of the club under the ball - it's a great visual as you have to take club out to be in position to move toe under ball.
