omg. i just spent the last two days tearing my hair out trying to fix a seam that refused to go in substance painter...that flipping of the green color in blender fixed instantly. its like god sent you at the right moment. THANK YOU!
@gower1973
@gower1973 2 жыл бұрын
That’s because Blender uses OpenGL and Substance Painter uses Directx, there YUP is opposite of each other, you can tell Substance Painter that you are using OpenGL when you are importing, or just setup and export preset.

Thanks for sharing this with us! I thought I already knew everything about normal maps and I knew to use Non-Color or Linear. However, I didn't know about the gamma adjustment value of 2.2 on sRGB. I'm glad I took the time to brush up on my knowledge with your help.

There was a great explanation of Normals by CG Cookie, I think. So, when I saw this video I just assumed it would cover much of the same information, but this video goes much further and into much more detail. It answered questions I didn't even realise I had about Normals.

THANK YOU! I was struggling with connecting the baked normal map from Substance into Blender. The shading was all shiny and had a lot of weird artifacts. I was not finding any information about it online!! So frustrating... But the only problem was the inverted green channel. Now it works perfectly!

Hey Pierrick! Thanks for explaining the technical details! I aways wondered why you have to set it to Non-color if the normal map uses color to identify the surface orientation! One little tip, instead of using the separate RGB node, you can also use the RGB curves node. You just have to invert the curve on the green channel and bam! Only one node to achieve this result! Big hugs from Brazil!

Hello, Thank you for this great Tutorial. I understand everything about normals much much better now. Just one thing: The most people dont have a 6??? x 4??? Resolution Monitor. Its very hard to read the text from eg. "nodes" and i have a 27" Monitor.

Question - If I already have a finished normal texture - can I erase parts that I don't need/don't want in the low poly mesh? What free software can I use to do this? I am not interested in photoshop. I tried to accomplish that in ShaderMap4, but the results are unsatisfying or I do something wrong.

You can use Blender with either default values as mentioned above or clone tool, and you can always check Gimp, it's free and very similar to photoshop.
