Although I agree this is hilarious as his origin and I do think it’s the closest we’re ever gonna get to an official backstory for this version of Shadow, I personally have my own head canon which I think explains a few details about the Sonic Boom universe: In my headcanon, Shadow is still a lab experiment, but he wasn’t created by the Robotniks. Instead he was created by the ancients. My reasoning behind this is that , outside of his appearance in Sonic Boom season 1, every appearance he has in this sub series has shadow linked with the ancients in someway: We first see shadow in rise of lyric lurking around an abandoned ancient laboratory where they ran top-secret scientific experiments long ago. In sonic boom shattered crystal, lyric is fully aware of who shadow is despite the fact that they never met in rise of lyric and deems him to be a valuable asset. In Eggman the video game part one, Eggman discovers shadow living in an abandoned ancient cave. It should also be noted that the ancients experimented with “the chaos crystals“ and shadow is the only character in the entire boom series who has chaos powers, as you can see during his Bossfight in rise of lyric where he explicitly uses chaos spear and chaos blast. So although I don’t consider this to be canon, I do personally like to think shadow is still an immortal ultimate life form created by scientists a long time ago, as I think it explains away all of the seemingly random connections with the ancients he has. Also I don’t know if this is canon or not but in rise of lyric’s Japanese dub, shadow already is aware of lyric and makes it clear that he intends on allowing the snake to destroy the world, despite the fact shadow should have no idea who this snake is… Unless shadow was around when lyric was in his prime. And as one last comment, all of this can still work with the “Maria the surfboard” backstory. This just explains how shadow came to exist rather than being his motivation.

@@comicfan1324 I LOVE THIS! I was thinking about this awhile back but abandoned the idea- but looking back on this, it HAD potential! Cause I personally believe there is NO WAY Boom! Shadow would've appeared in the GAMES (and show) the way he did, for NO REASON WHATSOEVER (and that's the writers fault sadly, lol!). I also had the idea that the reason Boom! Shadow hates Team Sonic so much, not just because he finds friendship or "teamwork is weak", but it's because THEY WERE the Ancients REINCARNATED- and perhaps they hurt/betrayed Shadow, their own creation, in their past lives, leading him not to trust anybody! But seeing their new selves causes his feelings of betrayal to linger, so he takes his fury out against them, even when the heroes have no idea what they did. That, or I'm overthinking it. I do recall Shadow was mind controlled, so I hesitated. My imagination has no bounds. Lol!

@comicfan1324 this is my headcanon too its like Shadow was created to fight Lyric think a Sonic Boom movie would have been cool with Lyric return (here imprissend by the ancients or shadow?) and fighting the Tv series cast and a thired season building lightly up to it with some ancient ruins or treasures discovered by Ray and Mighty + honey (rich explorer founder) as explorers/adventures like Indiana Jones/Relichunter/Tombrider/uncharted (new Boom version) and also bringing other charcters Boom version in series like Espio (or Vanilla as part of Vectors detective show/team who he onced helped + will they wont they dynamic and charmy as informant or fan/prodigy + teen/kid/older Cream?)

The Boom spinoff series does have potential to offer something new for this franchise and it would've been nice if it continued. At least I'm glad that Sticks is trying to escape it though. Sonic Boom is my favorite Sonic show, and I honestly don’t have a problem with Boom Shadow. Like you say, we can’t have the same backstory as the game version. In fact, we don’t have really any origins for the Boom cast. I did like how Sonic becomes more serious than usual when he fights Shadow. I remember another joke question on the BumbleKast that Maria and Gerald just left Shadow. This guy just has all the abandonment issues. I admit, I had my own Shadow backstory, that Maria died naturally from her illness. Shadow became bitter because she wasn’t given the chance to live her life, while all these other people, who clearly don’t appreciate what they have, did. He is especially bitter towards Sonic because the blue hedgehog reminds him of Maria, and he hates that. That’s just my idea.

This is why I think Sonic Boom should've gotten a Season 3, Like I can imagine a Two Parter Episode in which The First Part has Team Sonic explore an abandoned Shadow Cave and they find his journal which goes into Shadow & his Surf Board named Maria's Backstory and she gets lost out to sea and it's essentially a Parody of Cast Away. Then the 2nd Part would be about Team Sonic trying to find his Board they eventually do, and as they're about to give it to Shadow (who is genuinely happy and friendly), Eggman shoots it with a Laser and Shadow isn't as much of a Jerk towards Team Sonic but rather despises Eggman from now on for vaporising Maria to the point where he starts trying to destroy Eggman but Team Sonic just won't have it so they fight Shadow and then decide to Freeze Shadow in a Cryogenic Pod that's hidden underground in Tails' Workshop. So if he wants to comeback in future Episodes where he fights both Team Sonic & Eggman then you have an Episode in which The Lightning Bolt Society or Nominatus free him so he can get revenge on Team Sonic (For Stopping Him) & Eggman (For Vaporising Maria).

I think a way we can re-introduce sonic boom into the main canon is just all these different characterizations of the main cast should just be given to secondary characters so the knuckles from sonic boom can just be the games universe’s modern Bark the polar bear instead. And I think that the Boom TV show would’ve been a lot better if none of the main sonic characters were in it and this is a problem because the franchise is named after the main character so the main character is it expected to be there. It’s not like resident evil where a new main character is in every game and it’s not called Leon Kennedy the franchise and Leon is in every single game.

When Sonic Prime for first teased ALL the way back in 2020, I honestly wanted more something akin to Sonic Boom to be honest. Well, Sonic Boom crossed with the IDW Sonic Annuals. More down to earth stories about the characters going about their lives and going on small scales adventures. We see them all the time dealing on world ending crises, I want to see them do something else. Like, in The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, and a little bit in Shadow the Hedgehog (2005), we see Shadow struggling with modern technology, which makes a lot of sense. Are there other things about the modern world he struggles with? Like not getting modern music trends or slang?? I like to imagine he would use old sayings that are not used anymore since he grew up in 50s. And what about other characters we don't get to see very often, like the Chaotix?? What is a day in the office like for them?? I imagine quite chaotic. Little stuff like that to make the characters feel more alive, in a way. Like they actually have things they do and get up to when Eggman is not bursting through their wall.

That's an interesting origin for the show but I think Shadow in Boom often feels one dimensional in comparison to other characters having more to them then just there surface level personalities. I think it would be funnier if him being a angry bully was more of a facade to hide soft side like many bully characters in cartoons or just making him a disapproving big brother that shows up to clean up there mess on occasion like Shadow from Prime but with more sarcasm.

i honestly wish his origin was never revealed. what made booms shadow interesting to me was what little was known about him. i know it was a joke and i care about this more then a should but still.

I’m pretty sure that Boom Shadow share the same origin story as Modern Shadow, after all they’re both the Ultimate Life form from two different universes. However, Boom Shadow is more of a universal threat, and to add a bonus, he’s also menace, jerk, selfish, rude, ruthless, arrogant, cruel, heartless, hellbent on destroying anything or anyone, godforsaken, alienated, speed demon, animal! But then again, these were also the basic traits of Modern Shadow as well…Er, sometimes,but for Boom Shadow, it’s all the time. Where’s that Maria awkward friendship loving flashbacks when you need one for Boom Shadow!?

Now I’m just wondering what would happen if Sonic and the gang found Maria the surfboard and returned it to Shadow. Would he instantly ease up, do some good and ride the waves peacefully? This origin story is leaving me with more questions than answers now! How does it do that?!

Shadow is indeed actually antagonistic, that's literally part of who his character is, he's a character that's going to go through anyone who gets on his way to get to his goals, that includes Sonic, that includes Eggman, that includes GUN, anyone Shadow fights those who oppose him, and become allies when they have common goals, and often Sonic and Shadow's ideals don't align so yes, he goes and has gone against Sonic multiple times other than just racing, they were designed to be rivals and Shadow was never made into a Sonic's friend, not even after the conclusion of Shadow the Hedgehog, even post his arc in there, Shadow is willing to go or team up with anyone who has the same/opposite intrests as him, and he often goes against Sonic because their ideals don't match, that's literally part of Shadow He has fought Sonic multiple times even AFTER Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Rivals 1 and 2, Sonic Battle, Sonic Generations, if you wwant to count, even Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog, even when Sonic fights Sir Lancelot he says "some things never change" refering to the fact that he and Shadow fight often That doesn't mean I don't agree with other things said on the video though, while I disagree with the fact that you deslike when Shadow is antagonistic and saying that he doesn't fight Sonic that often, I do think Boom Shadow is different from main Shadow in different aspects other than that, and he's most of the time just a grumpy guy, and I also do agree that this is fine and works for that version of Shadow and that version only and should not be applied to the main version (but disagree on the comment about IDW Shadow tho), because Sonic Boom, as an alternate universe and/or a parody of the main series, is where it is at its best state, and Boom Shadow having no emotional backstory full of trauma like the main Shadow has (both considering this backstory or considering he has no backstory at all), it makes him acting the way he does, as an alternate version of Shadow, works, and yeah, I also do agree that this backstory works for Boom Shadow, it's a paralel/parody of the main version, while still not taking away the fact that Boom Shadow can act the way he does just as much as if he had no backstory Although I don't know if what Ian said is the true origin of Boom Shadow, might've been one of his many jokes that people take way too seriously, might've been a scrapped concept that SEGA didn't allowed, or might actually be his real origin story, in any case, I still think it is a good origin Story for Boom Shadow that works for him
