In the Eastern spiritual traditions, liberation is the central focus. There is one text, however, that takes this a step further to point out that even liberation itself is an obstacle. In this episode of the Sacred Word, I will explain an important verse from the Ashtavakra Gita, a text one is ready to assimilate after enlightenment. The Ashtavakra Gita is for those to absorb oneself in the presence of the Ultimate Reality after awakening.

'The idea of liberation is a serious limitation to the serious spiritual seeker' . . . . . what an incredible statement. Reminds me of Meister Eckhart's saying, 'God save me from God' - that the very idea of God can become a block to finding that which is called . . . God. Thank you for bringing this beautiful teaching to the awareness of so many of us. Inspiring.

@@marksavoia3687 There are clearly many ideas covered by the phrase, ‘non-dual’. To me none of the expressions you use are really non- dual. If Matt 22:39 has said, ‘Love thy neighbour for thy neighbour IS thyself’, I think we would be getting nearer how I see things. But in case, all these words are merely ideas, fingers pointing at the moon. Ultimately there are no neighbours and no self to be a neighbour.

I really enjoy hearing your thoughts on this because I have just begun really understanding this concept in my own life and how sometimes I feel beyond all suffering and other times I feel very venerable to suffering. So I was already putting this together and then I found your videos! So cool! And it’s a bit of a relief because I don’t personally know anyone who talks like this and these ideas have just stayed in my head because i haven’t had anyone to talk to about them. Again thank you for the videos and sharing your thoughts! Something I want to add is that I think sometimes the spiritual community and people who have understood the Atman will look down on the Jiva persona. As though it is lower and not useful anymore. But what I’ve found is that that both the Jiva and the Atman are beautiful parts of creation and myself. It is beautiful to be human and limited in a sense but also to have the awareness beyond the limited identity. Its something I’ve been pondering on. But I’ve found that now that I have seemed to understand the Atman in myself, I am enjoying life in the Jiva more if that makes sense. At first I was denying the Jiva (because I thought it was lower and not truly a good part of me) and I realized doing that actually caused suffering! But when I accepted both the Jiva and Atman part of myself now my life seems to be flowing a lot more naturally. It’s hard to explain but it feels right! Anyways, thanks for reading if you had time 🧡

I love these deeper teachings Jason, thank you for them!!! Chapter 15 verse 4 is a "personal" favorite for this little "I". In the mystical experience i had ( in fact this JIva "i" whas vanished then) there whas a strong notion/image or feeling about reality of something like these Russian Matroesjka dolls, where everything fits perfectly well into eachother. I've been trying to get that puzzle solved with the mind but it didn't work ofcourse as its focussed towards the outside. But the idea of that Matroesjka isn't that strange. When this little "i" dreams, consciousness creates entire worlds and characters within it while in fact the characters aren't real, this play exists within the consciousness of something bigger that can't be touched by whatever happens within the dream. What we call "life" is actually the same, we are not the personas within it but the consciousness in which the play occurs. To go back to this Matroesjka comparison again we even aren't the largest Matroesjka in which the smaller ones appear. We are the space/consciousness in which all the Matroesjka's exist small or big.
@innocenzz
@innocenzz 2 жыл бұрын
While i keep thinking about this you can say that our true nature (Brahman) is the eternal nothingness in which everything appears like the Matroesjkas. Brahman is formless and provides the space in where every-thing else appears. So the largest Matroeska of the metaphor symbolize the gods, One symbolizes Yama (death) the next one symbolize the realm of angels, guides etc so to speak, the next one might be this universe followed by a plane like this earth and within that the Jiva's follow. I thought this would sound a bit too new-age like, but after reading the Tibatan Book of Death a bit this maybe isn't that strange.
@oerantia9126
@oerantia9126 2 жыл бұрын
There is no need to think of layers of dolls. Doing that (thinking: putting it into words or thoughts) is again using the dissecting/dividing mind that tries to understand something that is not at the level (language is sometimes very incapable of finding a proper expression for it) of the mind. Try to “understand” the small I dream as an EXPERIENCE entirely based on thoughts. Every thought is an experience. When you wake up, what do you have or what do you do? You start immediately having your next thoughts, so you start having your (day) experiences, based on the very same mechanism that you are having dream experiences. That mechanism is - as always - thought (or the mind if you prefer that word). Mind/thought can be seen as (again a dissection) the (limited!) creative aspect of Reality. The passive aspect of Reality is what we could call consciousness. When these creative thought-based experiences somehow get bundled through the mechanism of memory (thoughts disappearing and reappearing) AND the root-thought “I”, personal doership, the ego is thought(!) to be real. Thinking, which I highlight again as being extremely CREATIVE and as being extremely EXPERIENTIAL, is what keeps us bound to experiences, to the ego, to personal doership. The mind is (very) helpful to understand how experiences or simply put “your (egoic) life works, but to understand that egoic life is NOT the highest/deepest “level” of Reality, one can only become silent (within). Being silent externally can be an aid, but is not necessary. It is entirely all about the attitude within: do we continue to identify with the external experiences or do we make an honest attempt at identifying with the silence within? I leave you with a quote from Nisargadatta Maharaj: “What a fall! The perfect state [silence] caught up in these experiences [thoughts that appear to be real(ity)] and expecting [desire] some gain [improvement at the egoic level] from them.” Ramana Maharshi has said that “there is no mind”. One day, you might wake up from a dream and experience the similarity between sleep-dreaming and awake-dreaming. The key to true understanding is to understand things at the level of direct-experience. Don’t get stuck or don’t get content at understanding life at the layer of words, at some layer of fancy concepts. That is one of the ways to cut through the illusion of all experiences, including the small I. One has to be awake (or dream) for there to be an individual I. In deep sleep, the individual I is not there, so the individual I is - every single day - just a temporary experience. I agree, that a dream points to the experience that YOU are capable of dreaming a dream-I and also dream another world and other dream-I’s in it, but don’t rest content with verbal/conceptual/expressible knowledge there is then a higher or larger mind, a larger I at work for the universe we see when we are awake. I tried it, you want get any satisfaction from it for the simple reason that no expression, no thought, no experience can ever remain permanently with you, so one clings to something that is impermanent. You may have heard of the saying “everything heard, must be used and thrown away”. If the throwing away doesn’t happen, even with the highest of teaching, one remains stuck in either one’s own expressible understanding/experience or somebody else’s expressible understanding/experience. Only what is with you (as true inexpressible understanding) non-stop (24/7) is Real Truth and not bound to be painful and pleasurable in endless succession. Your presentation of the dolls is not with you non-stop when you are awake, dream and definitely not when you are in deep-sleep. All expression requires the support of memory and the repeated expression of it. In that way, anything that requires support (be it just the expression of it, but also the logic or reasoning behind it) can NOT be the Uncaused Effortless Reality. Go back to your mystic experience. Maybe you got the insight: “hey, this is completely effortless or this never sleeps, is always awake …”. As egos we are addicted to expression, because expression is experience. Letting INTERNALLY go off the addiction to experience (including the “liberated experience”) is one of the most powerful steps in yoga (re-union with Reality).

@yahkahlalah apparent, appearance is in the mind. Appearance bears no truth whatsoever. The perfect state is the indescribable, never-expressible state. It is conscious and not-conscious and beyond both (another NM quote). So what was NM apparently? He was the non-apparent, the apparent and beyond both. Just like you and everybody else. Complete silence teaches one everything about non-silence, about expression and how no opinionated expression can ever be the complete/original/final truth.

This just repeats what one can get from any number of sources. As long as people are caught up in theories of the Atman and liberation, which are merely concepts propagated by religious teachers, they will just keep running about looking for these things, fantasising the ‘undifferentiated’ and so on endlessly - instead of facing life as it is. There is no liberation, nirvana etc, there is only the mental bondage we make for ourselves. Logically, these theories are deeply flawed for example relying on the idea of ‘one consciousness’ as the ‘undifferentiated’, the latter term excluding the former.

Proposal. The initial bifurcation in all that "you" are is the birth of the physical self. From that moment, and no matter how you struggle, you cannot become the One. But don't misconstrue. I'm not saying you should not strive for it. The struggle may very well may be the whole point of the bifurcation. To be removed, to learn, and by that process attain understanding. All I'm saying is that to regain the One you must accept leaving physicality behind. But this is tough, isn't it? It's why there are only ever a few prophets. We don't have herds of Jesus's, or Buddha's, or any other of those types around, do we? There are only ever a bare few. This is probably a reflection of their, and ultimately our, final time around the wheel of existence. With epiphany comes Enlightenment. And with that, *poof!* you are gone.. So it goes. Give up learning and it will be 100 times better for you. Do you think you can improve on the world? I don't think it can be done. Lol I get it and I'm still here listening to learn. Hahaha Yet . . . . . blah blah blah to the end of time
