I can say this much - during an oral surgery as a teen for impacted wisdom teeth - I believe I was in-between life and death when the surgeon left me under too long. I remember being in a very comfortable darkness with a few splotches of blue colors here and there and KNOWING that I may be dead, but NOT CARING. NO EMOTION. just AWARENESS. PURE CONSCIOUSNESS. I remember hearing the nurse scold the doctor saying "DOCTOR! DOCTOR !!" and knowing it was because she saw I had been left under too long. I remember it was meaningless to me. no fear. I was completely comfortable in that dark atmosphere I was in. SO - that having been said - I understand "no desire for liberation" and all the rest of it. when you are pure consciousness it is not necessary. you just "are". or - to quote Jesus - "I am that I am". I get that now. (because of that experience).

Who I am (social self) changes with time, place and circumstance. What I am (essential self), changes with embodiment. Only That I am (core self - being aware of being aware), remains eternally constant, and is that from which who and what I am arise, and that to which they return. I am something, I am nothing, I am everything. We are here to transform our caterpillar psyche into a Butterfly Soul, by integrating our Heart, Mind and Will. When the Heart aspires, the Mind inquires and the Will conspires (combines). The insight of the Mind that inspires the aspiration of the Heart, together generate the the power of the Will to take corresponding action toward the fulfillment of the Heart's aspiration. What appears as separate is in Reality, Continuum of Being. Love is the recognition of our shared Being. Love = For(ce). May the For(ce) be with you! Namaste'.

For this very reason I also consider the wish of many self proclaimed enlightened people to escape the "burden" of reincarnation to be akin to the same. They appear to be of the mind that life is inherently something attached to suffering, thus, their goal is to escape the reality of a physical existence. Personally I would strive to enjoy existing with or without any expectations of reincarnation, as far as I can perceive... I seems more fitting that one may appreciate existence in all it's glory by accepting what is as it is without focus on the future, whether it be the future of the body or the soul. I should thank you for sharing this message with us. As always, you've delivered us food for thought in an easily digestible fashion considering the complex nature of the subject. 🙂

Watching this video inspired this thought. Duality vs Oneness. It is the dualistic-nature of the soup we live in that is the cause of our joys and sorrows, exhilarations and pains. Beyond that duality matrix is the state of oneness. A state of indifference, void of judgement, void of good or evil, void of religions, void of attachments and even void of love. A state of absolute deprivation of emotion-driven thoughts or actions. A biologically impossible state as it is beyond the nature of light itself. Indeed it is the state of God.

There was a time before there was a sense of self. A time before time began. Once when we were children we discovered a separate sense of self and fell in love with it, because it was a double blessing. - We are loved both with condition and without. It was only later that shame and guilt accumulated, and later still pain and survival. Yet, shame can be transmuted and so can be done with guilt. This requires discernment, without which the self is a slave to karma. It remains to be seen if we can become free of pain and the needs of survival. If it is possible, then the struggle is over and we may resume the business of simply being, forever in grace.

If your soul or the atman is already enlightened, why do many spiritual teachers talk about the soul having to amend karma/bad deeds from previous lifetimes and feeling guilty when the soul reviews its physical life after death? Many say we have to merge into God by first breaking free of reincarnation. Why would we have to merge into God/Brahman when we are part of it already? Is reincarnation the soul's choice or is it an endless binding loop until the person realizes they are not the self?

The words "realization" and "enlightenment" are so overused that most people do not know what they mean when THEY use them. There are degrees of spiritual growth and we rarely find people understanding these degrees and then applying them to consider the experience and wisdom of any person claimed to be enlightened. Everyone who seems a little more spiritually mature than we are is labelled "enlightened". The best source I've found on this is the writings of Adi Da Samraj, who also addresses the Ashtavakra Gita. He has exhaustively described the "seven stages" or phases of spiritual realization, and with a clarity that shows he is not theorizing or expounding philosophy, but describing what is self-evident to him in his own condition. His writings obviate trying to make sense out of ancient texts from cultures very different from our own. Read whatever you want but if you start with Adi Da you'll spend years absorbing over 10,000 pages of insight on spirituality, and save time reading lesser works or trying to understand modern translations of texts from ancient cultures.

I always wondered, it is ok if some superior power created me, but how is it that IT can mesmerise me into believing that I AM. Then it occurred to me after a thousand agonising times that my thinking that I AM is actually a fraud committed on me. Like one who cut off the chain with an iron ball tied to one's leg and became free, I threw away this I concept, this me, myself, etc. and became free. As the Guru of Adi Shankara said, no one is born, so no one is dying as the world is an illusion. Rene Descartes said 500 years ago, "I think, therefore I am."
