Love this! All of the shots I took for a coffee advent calendar were on my kitchen counter and dining table.

Good video, BTW, you can control the flashes power directly on the X-pro trigger, so that you don’t need to move your setup or model Every time ;)

Yeah it was just force of habit to go adjust it manually haha, unsure why I do that over using the receiver itself but just always have done it that way!

I love the timing of this as I just did a one day intensive course on studio photography, hands on in the studio - all the gear, great (patient) model (even scored some good godox lights and umbrellas and stands as they are closing down the studio and happy to sell of some excess). To your video now some of what I learned and how a studio can be anywhere is just great. One thing during the course was that I used the light meter to prep every set up. Still getting my head around how to use the light meter, ratios, etc ...in your case are you just doing it based on feel based on years of experience, or is there some other trick of the trade, or consideration which went into determining your light settings and fstops? (look at me with all my new fancy technical terms)

I’m so glad you found it helpful! As for the light meter, I do have one that I use, it’s actually fairly simple to use, set it to flash mode, press the button to take a reading on the models face then hit the test flash button and the number it tells you is the correct exposure to set on your camera. I find it much more important for use with film cameras as you can’t see the exposure straight away, to be honest with digital just take a test shot, if it’s too dark either increase strobe power or ISO or lower your F-stop, if it’s too bright go the other way, it becomes fairly straight forward once you’ve done it a couple times, feel free to use the settings I recommend in the video to get started and go from there, let me know if you have any further questions!

Why are you adjusting the power on the flash not the controller? - won't it revert to the controller settings?
@rudermanphoto2 ай бұрын
Just force of habit, it will stay at the most updated power and updates on the controller if you adjust on the flash itself.
