I discovered a similar technique last night, using Terrain and simply right click to remove. Certainly not neat and tidy, but definitely shreds through the space I wanted to make.

Hi Nick, Try the downstest line in the building hammer. Terrain, ther you can di it with the block to without always remove the builden part

I just use the terrain modifier via the hammer(the last option), and carve out large chunks of terrain without placing the foundation or the rough stone block. I just place them after the carving. Much faster. Also gathering stone in the process.

I do it this way too but I gotta say the method from the video (al leat with the foundation blocks) kinda makes perfect cuts in the terrain. Probably will be digging with terrain modifier and finishing with foundation blocks. OH, by the way, nice to see some dwarves in here.
